TV presenter allegations

JeandeServiette · 08/07/2023 23:54

Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

Regional presenters do get six figure salaries especially in the devolved nations.

Sorry, but I have not read the whole thread, and if as has been presented to the media, this TV personality has done exactly as accused, then he is a disgusting and grubby man. But, I thought that once someone was over the age of 16 - where they can legally choose to have sex or not - that the accused can't actually be prosecuted for what he did because it is not illegal, just extremely immoral?

If he is guilty of doing what he has been accused of, and if it is illegal (which I hope it is), then I hope that it does all come out in a court case. If it isn't illegal, then I am not sure that the whole world needs to know about his horribly immoral behaviour, however, he himself, should quietly retire under the pretext of ill health, and never behave like that again - if he did repeat such nasty behaviour again with someone else, then I doubt that he could expect not be outed for a second time.

Again, even if encouraging and asking (and paying) a 16 or 17 year old for such pictures is not illegal, if he did do so then I repeat that I believe he needs to retire as quietly as possible from the media, and never behave like that again. If his coercive behaviour is not illegal at the moment, maybe it should be made so? After all, is it not at least as bad as curb crawling (looking) for a prostitute?

@TheLadyofShalott1

if you had read the post you will see that sending such pictures to/from anyone under 18 is illegal. Childlike have a lot of good information if you want to educate yourself.

Very true!

can boobs be described as"bits"?

gemstoneju · 09/07/2023 09:07

Is it possible that the person concerned will make an announcement in the next 24 hours and admit to it, rather than see their colleagues dragged through the mud like this? They must be a sorry excuse for a human being, whoever they are. What a coward.

Sunnyfunnytimes · 09/07/2023 09:08

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 09:00

For me the least of the issue is that an MP is annoyed and furious. MPs and their system have caused a whole heap of harm to society.

If, as it might seem to be right now, a young person goes on one of these websites and uploads photos, whether under 18 or not, and someone buys them (the presenter wont be the only customer), that puts a totally different perspective on it for me

I don’t think anyone said it was the crux of this issue, no? More some folks are weirdly saying oh it’s not true or oh it’s someone no one heard of, like the latter matters, the point is it reads like the mp in question has been briefed and is lending weight to it. Ie indicating it’s trye

and no regional tv presenters who no one has ever heard of don’t get six figure salaries.

whomever it is the injunction has worked miracles. Literally no one knows.

MetaverseMavis · 09/07/2023 08:45

I Am Curious what Productions the presenter was involved with and unless they were very high up how they had that sort of disposable income. There was a super injunction made 23rd or 24th June so clearly has disposable income

Ah, the Superinjunction Myth. Always arrives sooner or later.

tunbridgeoutrage · 09/07/2023 09:06

Obviously they could but have you ever heard the term get your bits out in relation to boobs? I havent

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 09:13

bbc presenters desperate not to be off sick, and so glad to be on air!

Which bit are you saying thta others are saying isnt true?

Its true that someone has made an allegation about a tv presenter, thats all that is known. It might be true that the victim agreed with their parents making the allegation, on the other hand the victim might not be complying.

What else is true is impossible to say and MPs are great at showing indignant righteousness in order to whip up a frenzy as well.

WeWereInParis · 09/07/2023 09:14

I don't think it is in the public interest for his name to be published - yet.

Yes, but I bet the rest of the male bbc presenters wish it would be announced/leaked! Is there anyone that hasn't been accused at this point?

3BSHKATS · 09/07/2023 09:13

The confidentiality is so great around them you shouldn't even hear about it

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 09:17

i think the bbc have their hands tied unless the 20 year old speaks out, and they have presumably gone to ground

Peradventure55 · 09/07/2023 09:21

@Sunnyfunnytimes Search for top bbc salaries and see who is on the list before saying regional TV presenters don't earn six figure salaries.

Mammamia2023 · 09/07/2023 01:46

Someone on Twitter is very loudly and openly saying that he is friends with the young lads family and it is x. Claims their twitter is taken down now (it’s not i checked), not someone I knew (not a big bbc watcher) but sky news said household name so I’d have assumed it would be someone everyone has heard of like Mr Blobby 😂 Actually feel really sorry for those being accused with no evidence shows how quickly the rumour mill turns! Very scary.

It’s no surprise Sky and from the looks of it the Sun, and apparently the likes of Piers Morgan somehow trying to “expose” the truth without due process. There’s usually a reason why a name isn’t released but it won’t stop people from speculating and trying to play Sherlock Holmes.

AProlificNameChanger · 09/07/2023 09:25

If there is an ongoing investigation it can cause a mistrial so there’s a very good reason why the name won’t be released straightaway.

Owl55 · 09/07/2023 09:25

I was shocked when I read the “alleged name “as he is hugely popular and entertaining,I hope it’s wrong as I was looking forward to his show returning in Autumn .

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 09:26

that sounds like a bot talk from @Owl55

Plbrookes · 09/07/2023 09:26

3BSHKATS · 09/07/2023 09:13

Myth ? Explain please

There's always someone who claims they know a superinjunction is in place but of course there's no way of checking, they just KNOW. It was clear with the Schofield imbroglio that these people do not generally know the difference between a superinjunction and a nondisclosure agreement.

topnoddy · 09/07/2023 09:29

Owl55 · 09/07/2023 09:25

I've read loads of "alleged names" on here about it all , none of which are probably true , i don't seem to be shocked in any way at all .

There seems to be social media witch hunt with actually no evidence as to whether it's true or not

Mygazpachoistoocold · 09/07/2023 09:30

This is all starting to sound like something from the Echo Chamber by John Boyne.

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/07/2023 09:31

Why isn't this a police matter? Why is it up to the BBC to investigate it?

Bellajac · 09/07/2023 09:32

I'm pleased to see that Nicky Campbell has reported someone to the police for naming him on Twitter as the suspect. It's a vile tweet. There needs to be more of this. Speculation about innocent individuals is awful and so many people seem to believe anything they read on the internet.

Doggymummar · 09/07/2023 09:32

JustBrowingCZ · 09/07/2023 07:17

Spot the difference!

I wonder if that's why their name is trending on twitter.

I don't have a TV so can you explain what this ys supposed to show? It's a clip from 5 July ?

Bellajac · 09/07/2023 09:34

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/07/2023 09:31

I agree. If nothing illegal has happened then it's no-one's business but the individuals involved unless the BBC feels it has affected the man's performance in his job. If something illegal has happened it's a matter for the police.
