TV presenter allegations

JeandeServiette · 08/07/2023 23:54

Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

If we closed down every organisation with an employee who's done this, the world would grind to a halt.

I don't think anyone came near to suggesting the BBC should be closed down. (Although I know the "defund the BBC" people walk among us.) I do think they have a culture problem.

No more than any corporation of their size. ITV has just had it's own scandal, hasn't it?

Zonder · 09/07/2023 14:21

I'm actually quite rocked by it, if it's who it seems to be. I've always thought he was a good bloke.

If he is guilty then I hope it's dealt with properly. However I also hope he has some support since he has been open about his MH struggles.

It's not going to have a happy ending for anyone, is it?

Rhondaa · 09/07/2023 14:25

Whoever it is must be gobsmackingly stupid. To be identifiable is absolutely crazy. I'm obviously not advocating anyone pay anyone for sexual images but if you're going to do it surely keeping your face obscured and identity secret is the first thing you would do.

Rhondaa · 09/07/2023 14:26

'However I also hope he has some support since he has been open about his MH struggles.'

I hope the young person involved has support. If this is a well known highly paid BBC presenter I'm sure they can pay for some counselling.

But then you can't use the power and influence that celebrity brings....

I know I'm being a terrible cynic but I can already see the "MH made me do it" defense being lined up.

It's the money surely that was important <sadly>, not the indentity?

Yes I can too. Some 2 year long breakdown. Awful for those with mh problems that those caught out with their trousers down always blame it for their terrible behaviour.

Inkpotlover · 09/07/2023 12:51

It is illegal to elicit, receive and distribute pictures of an explicit sexual nature from someone under the age of 18. Plus paying them for said images could constitute blackmail. So actually it's the police's business now.

Not necessarily. To distribute yes. To elict perhaps, depends on the circumstances and whether a person genuinely knows or believes the person is under 18

To receive, not necessarily dependent on whether its unsolicited.

Do we know he then distributed them?

The young person unfortunately has committed offences themselves by doing the above.

Zonder · 09/07/2023 14:31

Obviously when I say I hope the perpetrator gets support for their MH I am much more concerned for the victim. It's not an either / or.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2023 14:31

Must have been a shock for the persons mum seeing such a well known face.
Bad enough an Internet random , but not even bothering to conceal their identity somehow is just blatant.
They must like taking big risks or simply didn't care.
You just know you'll be found out eventually surely ?

Yes must have a self destruct button. Such reckless behaviour.

The mother would also have got a massive lump some from selling the story. The kid has been through so much yet you’re prepared to go The Sun to get some kind of justice for the other person’s wrongdoing even if it means exposing your child to the tabloid press?!

I think The Sun was clear they haven't been paid for the story?

bellac11 · 09/07/2023 14:39

I would be concerned at what had happened in that young persons childhood that they went on a site like Only Fans at 17, (or perhaps younger, who knows) and that they were already in thrall to a severe drug addiction.

Happy,, well adjusted kids with a safe secure background dont do that (well perhaps the 1%).

The only thing that would really shock me is if the presenter was a woman and most people are saying he so I wont be shocked. People use sex based sites/prostitutes/porn and have done for thousands of years, it is usually men using women for those purposes, it wont change. Men are more sexually driven than women, so this isnt particularly surprising. Bob down the road is also using this site and there isnt this outrage about him either.

I have figured out who it is. His shows have been removed from BBC iPlayer 🤣🤣🤣

Triggered by the stress of reporting on Covid every day

Blankstatement · 09/07/2023 14:43

I’ve just been sent the Twitter handle of what I think is a family member. There is a tweet to the alleged perpetrator back in April. It is completely unbelievable if true.

Jayllondon · 09/07/2023 14:43

His regular Saturday evening shows have been removed from BBC iPlayer

Not one of the hints here then?

Moveoverdarlin · 09/07/2023 14:48

Well I thought I knew who it was, but he certainly doesn’t have a Saturday evening show!

Moment of madness … covid … pressure of work … isolation … just doing research … stumbled across … couldn’t look away … descent into a hell I can’t now comprehend … moment of madness … Priory check-in … family love keeping me going … apologies to colleagues… moment of madness …

Really? Both the person I think it has to be, and the other person people seem to think, still have programmes on there. I just checked.
