What would you like to say to the chief exec of the supermarkets you use? I'll start ...

If you are going to sell spinach in plastic bags, please at least direct that they are stored in the refrigerated section rather than on the general unrefrigerated vegetable shelves along with the potatoes and onions etc.

Thank you Sainsburys.

They are gearing up to move online only. That's why bit by bit they are removing deli and fish counters, reducing size of clothing delta and getting rid of main checkouts.
They take loads more money online than through checkouts.

I had the exact same thought the last time I was in sainsbos and they had one manned conveyer belt open, new larger self service checkouts just been fitted.huge queue for the maned till, 2 staff manning self service on a rammed sat afternoon.

Theunamedcat · 04/07/2023 20:52

Red light means HELP the customer not STARE at the customer

I understand I'm scanning my own shopping but why do I have to scan my neighbours at the same time because she is struggling and your refusing to look and all the other tills are shut

Yes Iceland is always very busy in our town strangely it's the only one with no self service tills and it has John, John scans faster than the speed of light while solving all staff queries asking you how your day is remembering you have children always gives you a bless you have a nice day 😊 learn from John (if they ever get rid of him the store would close i swear)

@iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort
I want smaller packets of pate, too. My husband won't eat it and I love it. I have to throw half of every packet away - another reason for major supermarkets to have a deli counter where I can specify the size piece of pate I want to buy.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 04/07/2023 20:53

Waitrose - can you sell peaches that don't go unripe unripe unripe mouldy? you seem to have cracked it with avocados.

70sTomboy · 04/07/2023 20:53

Another one: Dear Supermarket can we have single packs of chicken leg, pork chop, fish fillet. I don't want to buy bulk packs.

MrsR87 · 04/07/2023 20:53

Please reinstate deli counters, butchers counters and fishmongers. It’s bad enough that you killed off a lot of the independent examples of these businesses but at least you used to provide a replacement service but now I have to buy a whole pack of bacon even though I only want two rashers etc.

Also, if you’re going to have 18 self service counters and the staff manning them have to;

  1. keep hold of the plastic bags because people keep stealing them meaning that people have to find the attendant to even get a bag
  2. check each self weighed piece of fruit and veg
  3. check ID
  4. deal with “unexpected item in bagging area”
  5. verify the weight of your bags if you bring your own
you need more than one member of staff on!!!
doodlejump1980 · 04/07/2023 20:53

Dear all supermarkets, why have you got SO much more girls clothing than boys clothing? And why are your boys clothes such boring colours when the girls clothing is every colour of the rainbow?
And whilst we’re here, why are boys clothes -predators (lions/tigers/sharks/dinosaurs) and all girls clothing is prey? (Squirrels/butterflies/bunnies etc).
also, not all boys are into gaming which seems to be the default clothing option for years 5+ clothing.
sincerely, all mothers of boys.

Zepherine · 04/07/2023 20:54

Forgot to mention self service tills. I hate them. They aren't quicker as something always goes wrong and please stop closing half of them because you don't have enough staff to keep an eye. Aldi is the worst culprit, M&S a close second. While I'm writing, who on earth designs your stores? The tills are crammed in the corner which is blocked by a pillar. It's impossible to get through when the tills are busy.

KirstenBlest · 04/07/2023 20:54

@Jitterybugs , I buy them if they have a yellow sticker. I do eat all of them but over a few days.
@Remotecontrolatmyside , there are often people hanging around the entrance/exit who'll probably be glad of the surplus

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 04/07/2023 20:33

Puss off with your increase in self scan checkouts. I don't get paid to scan my own shopping.

Exactly this, self scan it's better for the customer No its better for the supermarket... Free employees.. Sorry I don't work for free whilst doing my shopping.

AuntieStella · 04/07/2023 20:55

Lean on every single one of your suppliers to use less plastic.

Yes, I know there are times when it's the best thing to use, but there are still far too many over-packaged monstrosities

LittleFloatingGhost · 04/07/2023 20:56

Where are the red delicious apples? Looked everywhere for years - in all supermarkets (including the posh ones!)

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/07/2023 20:57

Also, please stop making your staff wear hideous nylon outfits because it is so cold in your stores in the summer. The numerous supermarkets I have been in in Spain, Portugal, Greece and France in July and August are not as cold as my local M&S - and the staff wear short sleeved shirts plus a smart apron over.

Dear Sainsbury’s,

If you are going to kill off the local fishmonger, can we have a decent selection of fish/seafood?

TurkeyLurkey4 · 04/07/2023 20:58

Please stop making packets that rip when you try to open them…

Blankscreen · 04/07/2023 20:59
  1. Put the price per gram/ml amount on the ticket when there is an offer on that way it is easier to see if it actually is a deal.
  1. Match the donations made to the food bank by your customers
HouseofHolbein · 04/07/2023 20:59

Tbh I'd be happy if the one I worked for paid more than minimum wage and had appropriate staffing levels. Oh and contracts you can live on. 10 hours a week but being expected to be fully flex doesn't really create a motivated workforce

Needmorelego · 04/07/2023 20:59

@Remotecontrolatmyside go to Lidl for your single doughnuts.
Big supermarkets - I’d like more non food stuff like magazines, toys, clothes, household and books please.
I mostly buy my food from Iceland because their home delivery service is excellent but if I am going to the effort of going to a big supermarket I want to make it worth my time and effort.

nopuppiesallowed · 04/07/2023 20:59

@dayswithaY
'Deli counters are very expensive to maintain and there is a lot of wastage'. Yes- there may be store wastage. However, prepacked goods such as pate still means wastage - but it's wastage for the purchaser who has already paid for a large amount of food she can't eat. That's MY money! GRRRRRRR!!

Firecarrier · 04/07/2023 21:00

Lidl,

Why do you place many of the wonderful offers/plants in the 'exit corridor' meaning if you wanted to buy these things you'd have to go out, put first load of shopping in the car, back in and all the way around and pay again?

LakeTiticaca · 04/07/2023 21:00

Employ some staff so the shelves are not half empty
Talking to you Sainsbury's

Crispynoodle · 04/07/2023 21:00

I feel that coriander should be sold in the soap section

WomensLandArmy · 04/07/2023 21:01

TurkeyLurkey4 · 04/07/2023 20:58

Please stop making packets that rip when you try to open them…

Or ones that refuse to be opened unless with industrial tools. There must be a happy medium?

bonfirebash · 04/07/2023 21:02

The Morrisons near me has a deli counter, fish, butcher and hot counter. Not sure if the other Morrisons do still but ours is all open

UnalliterativeGeorge · 04/07/2023 21:02

Morrisons do little packs of pate in the deli bit. I bought some duck and orange the other day as nobody else likes it in my house.
