What would you like to say to the chief exec of the supermarkets you use? I'll start ...

If you are going to sell spinach in plastic bags, please at least direct that they are stored in the refrigerated section rather than on the general unrefrigerated vegetable shelves along with the potatoes and onions etc.

Thank you Sainsburys.

If you must wrap items eg scones do they need to be in packs of 4? Any chance of packs of 2??

yours sincerely,
an old biddy living alone who can’t afford to buy 4 ( but would eat all 4 if she did)

All supermarkets: Bring back the delicatessen counters. Covid is over. Stop making excuses.

Sainsbury J, plc. You force us into self-checkouts, but when a red alert goes off for a tag to be removed why do I see your staff standing in a huddle at the end talking about personal stuff. It is a joke. And stop treating everybody as a potential criminal by making us scan our receipts to get out. It is so wrong.

Sainsbury J, plc. Your mince in plastic bags starts to deconstruct. You have not noticed because you keep doing it. This is why I no longer buy meat from you now as the texture is wrong and meals are more sloppy.

Waitrose. Organic fruit and veg means it is as nature intended. This means it comes nobbled, with some leaves blighted and you have to wash it but my goodness the taste is there. But your organic fruit and vegetables are so large and tasteless you are clearly talking bollocks and taking money under false pretences.

Tesco plc. Why not sell litre packs of apple and orange juice in handy family carry 4-packs. Like the other supermarkets do. It is a pain loading 8 individuals packs into the trolley.

Remotecontrolatmyside · 04/07/2023 20:39

Please cater for single people. I don't need a bag of 6 doughnuts. I want 1 (other examples are available 😂).

I'd like to request smaller packs of pate. It goes off before we can eat it.

Are you that lady who had a small tub of pate as a special Saturday treat between a family of 4 , ate it for a few days more and then had to throw it away before it went off

Probably along with a whole lettuce leaf each

PilatesPeach · 04/07/2023 20:40

Please do not complain when I wish to use the staff restroom given that I am now a checkout person when you have no manned tills open 😀

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 04/07/2023 20:33

what's with all the sushi counters?

Yes good question

CherryLipgloss · 04/07/2023 20:41

Ha! No! The rest of my family doesn't like it which is why a pack is too much.

If your supermarket doesn't allow your staff to water garden plants then stop selling them.

It breaks my heart to see outdoor shelves full of dead plants.

100% agree.

Tesco, Sainsbury and Co-op. Millions of dead and wilted plants in all those plastic pots that are not in an environment to nurture plants.

Stop trying to compete with local garden centres who will always do it much better. They are not failing so you have no market to exploit. Numbskulls.

Springbecamethesummer · 04/07/2023 20:43

They are gearing up to move online only. That's why bit by bit they are removing deli and fish counters, reducing size of clothing delta and getting rid of main checkouts.
They take loads more money online than through checkouts.

veryfluffyfluff · 04/07/2023 20:41

Yes good question

Bring back the rotisseries chicken counters!

Oh and Waitrose, if you insist on having the under 18s on the checkouts - you know, the ones who have to get approval to checkout booze - can you have more than one supervisor on?

I LOVE the increase in more diverse food choices particularly where you see the options reflecting the local cultural demographic (I’m in London and every tesco and Sainsbury’s has a different mix) . But please mix it in to the standard categories rather than having a Polish aisle, Asian aisle, Caribbean aisle etc to make it easier to integrate in to weekly shop.

If I’m buying rice, I want to go to the rice section and have all options there. But instead you have to go to the Indian section to get the really good rice.

I want to buy chickpeas in the tinned veg aisle. Not to have to check there and the Caribbean aisle for the best option.

Same with the good instant noodles. They’re not in the noodles section, but in the Asian section.

Makes shopping complicated and you need to get to know what’s in those specific aisles.

Interested to see if anyone disagrees and why

I absolutely agree.

Meeting · 04/07/2023 20:44

Please stop requiring me to have a members card just to pay normal prices for my shopping.

I've now seen this at Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/07/2023 20:44

I don’t want to shop online.

Yes to bringing back fish counters.

dayswithaY · 04/07/2023 20:45

People love sushi
Deli counters are very expensive to maintain and there is a lot of wastage
Self checkouts aren’t going anywhere, in fact they are putting more in
Products get moved around due to Gov regulations on HFSS, plus promotions
Yes there is too much plastic

MissPoldark · 04/07/2023 20:45
  1. please ensure that the price stated on the shelf is the same as that paid by the customer at the checkout
  2. when a customer brings a price discrepancy to your attention you should update it as soon as possible, not leave it another week and deceive thousands more customers in the meantime
  3. make sure the self-weigh scales are working
  4. get rid of wonky wheel trollies
  5. clean your hand baskets every now and again
  6. don’t leave rotting food on display
  7. most importantly , please reintroduce dates on fresh produce packaging, or at least include the date that the item went on display. You claim this is all about reducing food waste, but all that happens is that food waste is passed onto the customer when a fresh food item that they’ve paid full price for is mouldy/turning bad the day after they’ve bought it.
WaitingfortheTardis · 04/07/2023 20:46

Please stop reducing the number of manned tills, I much prefer them as self service is rubbish. Also could we please have a proper fresh cakes and patisseries counter like they do in Spanish supermarkets?

veryfluffyfluff · 04/07/2023 20:46

madroid · 04/07/2023 20:38

THIS

And stop with all the other packaging. Household things like loo roll, washing powder etc can be bought loose and taken home in our own containers.

Frozen food doesn't need a bag + cardboard box (most pizzas) or a box half as big again as the product (most fish).

And stop profiteering. We know you're doing it!!

Loo roll will get damp. It needs a wrapper. Try who gives a crap loo roll

Meeting · 04/07/2023 20:47

Totally agree, they could at least have 'display until' dates.

MissPoldark · 04/07/2023 20:48

I forgot one…..
bring back the customer service counter so that your customers aren’t forced to queue longer than necessary to resolve a problem.

KentuckyFriedChicken83 · 04/07/2023 20:48

Dear Supermarket

How can you justify a price increase of 50p on an item per week. The cost of production does not go up by that amount in 7 days!

WinniFinniHadog · 04/07/2023 20:49

Dear executive.

Open up online shops for online orders like Wearhouse and then open up shops that have a fresh butcher, a fishmonger, green grocer stall, a ironmongers , habidashery area, dairy counter with cheese and milk, clothes sections, and general produce like tea coffee biscuits and so on, so it's more like an indoor market.

We can then pick our produce in paper bags and have a shopping experience. And don't risk being mowed down by your employees pushing around "click and collect" transport trollies in record time.

Whichwhatnow · 04/07/2023 20:49

Dear Tesco,

Please stop switching all of the product locations around every few months so I have to go looking for every single thing on my list. I assume you are doing this so that instead of just quickly grabbing my usual shop I am forced to walk down aisles I never usually go down and scan every shelf because you've inexplicably moved the Ryvita away from the crisps and snack section and plonked it next to the tinned soup.

I am guessing the intention is for me to notice tempting products that I've never noticed before and be unable to resist buying them. The reality is it adds an hour onto my shop, pisses me off and means I am increasingly likely to go next door to Aldi instead.

70sTomboy · 04/07/2023 20:49

Dear supermarket, move the parent and child wide spaces to the back or side of the car park with walkway round and put disabled bays by the doors. Not the other way round.

Zepherine · 04/07/2023 20:50

There's far too much plastic packaging on goods. M&S, can you please put your recycling bin for said packaging by the exit rather than at the customer service area which is at the back of the store? Ditto your food bank bin. I don't want to buy something then have to walk back through the store to put it in.

I too hate having to have a store card to buy things at a normal price and I won't do it.

MurielThrockmorton · 04/07/2023 20:51

Your avocados are not ripe or ready.
