Dear major UK supermarket ...

What would you like to say to the chief exec of the supermarkets you use? I'll start ...

If you are going to sell spinach in plastic bags, please at least direct that they are stored in the refrigerated section rather than on the general unrefrigerated vegetable shelves along with the potatoes and onions etc.

Thank you Sainsburys.

Please let me pay cash at the scan and shop bit rather than have to guess or scan the shipping and hand it back to one of your staff members

Dear major supermarket,
Please stop selling fruit and vegetables in plastic bags. Allow us to choose our own and put them in a paper bag.
Thank you

THIS!

Thought of more!

Tesco Chester: branch 1 - turn down the AC please. I have Reynard's; the till girl had to get my bank card out of my purse as I had lost all feeling in my fingers. She was blue and shaking with cold. This was last week. Branch 2: do not sell rotting loose carrots and then have a staff member audibly tut when someone (not me!) takes off the top basket to get to the fresher ones below.
Aldi: it is possible to change the orientation of the trolley park so that customers don’t have to block the entrance/exit to get trolleys in and out.
on the other hand, well done all supermarkets on generally having plenty of clean and accessible loos!

Mademetoxic · 04/07/2023 21:49

Ban plastic bags to sell to customers and any food wrapped up in unnecessary plastic.

Then customers will have no choice but to bring their own bags with them.

If your supermarket doesn't allow your staff to water garden plants then stop selling them.

It breaks my heart to see outdoor shelves full of dead plants.

I second this. Wilko does it too

Dear all supermarkets, why have you got SO much more girls clothing than boys clothing? And why are your boys clothes such boring colours when the girls clothing is every colour of the rainbow?
And whilst we’re here, why are boys clothes -predators (lions/tigers/sharks/dinosaurs) and all girls clothing is prey? (Squirrels/butterflies/bunnies etc).
also, not all boys are into gaming which seems to be the default clothing option for years 5+ clothing.
sincerely, all mothers of boys.

100% this.
It's like monochrome everywhere. My little boy doesn't like dinos or gaming, loves tractors and cars, and his favourite colour is purple.
I've spent far too much time/money online buying more colourful clothes!

I feel that coriander should be sold in the soap section

This should actually be a legal requirement. It has no place in with food.

southlondoner02 · 04/07/2023 21:54

Morrisons - please stop supporting the local evangelical church for your Christmas charity and food bank parcels. They are notoriously dodgy, including a number of articles in the guardian about some of their practices.

What happened to all the non branded stuff?

£1.35 for Pom Bears, bring back the bunny crisps!!

This one's for you Tesco!

This is driving me mad at the moment!!

Ylvamoon · 04/07/2023 21:59

Dear major Supermarket,

Please price fruit & veg that is in season and produced within the uk, cheaper than the stuff that has travelled 100's of (air) miles.
I know your mak up would be less but the environment, the producers, the NHS and of course myself would be very grateful.

Yours sincerely

Loyal Customer

Where are the red delicious apples? Looked everywhere for years - in all supermarkets (including the posh ones!)

Yes yes yes!

DH magically found some for me in M&S a few weeks ago. I've been searching for months.

Put doors on fridges!

My local Asda has recently put doors on all the fridges.

However...

Stop shrinking packs but pretending you haven't. Your tissue boxes are half the size they used to be.

As several pp have said, please put dates back on the fruit and veg.

Sort out your supply chains. Why are so many things not available for weeks on end?

TitsInAbsentia · 04/07/2023 22:04

Price everything in EITHER £0.00 per kg OR per 100g...not a mixture of both, at the end of a tough day I am pissed at having to do mental gymnastics to work out how much wool you are trying to tug over my decrepit eyes.

Citizens charter: from hereon all 'unidentified items in bagging area' shall be declared free of charge...that should sort your crappy diy tills out!

CallieQ · 04/07/2023 22:04

Don't keep moving stuff around so I can't find it!!

MurielThrockmorton · 04/07/2023 20:51

Your avocados are not ripe or ready.

Because if they were, they’d spoil and the supermarket would have to toss them out.

Just like most all other fruit, avocados are presented pre-ripened so that when you purchase them they will not spoil before you have the opportunity to enjoy them.

To ripen an avocado, seal it in a paper bag with a couple of bananas for a day or two - check often for ripeness.
Do NOT use a plastic bag.

Avocados do not ripen on trees, only after they’re harvested. Also, placing an avocado in a warm oven will not ripen them - it’ll ruin them.

BreviloquentBastard · 04/07/2023 22:05

Please make the film on the top of the bacon package actually peelable so I don't have to stab it open with a knife every single damn time.

LazyLeopard · 04/07/2023 22:06

Dear Local Morrisons,

If you don’t want me to climb your shelves, don’t put the Fevertree tonic on the top shelf, out of my reach.

Thanks.

Sunnysunbun · 04/07/2023 22:06

Too much plastic. Stop with the plastic.

Also get more staff. Self checkout is no good when you have £120 worth of shopping and the only open checkout has a queue to the back of the shop.

Is he Gaston?

As in the urban dictionary definition ? No.

I have no idea why he eats so many. He must like them. Fortunately no nasty side effect when he’s at work, which amazes me, as i would be able to clear the entire building with one fart. (It the inner child)

mumda · 04/07/2023 22:07

veryfluffyfluff · 04/07/2023 20:20

NO ONE NEEDS THAT MUCH CORRIANDER

It freezes. Just out a bit out each time you want some.

Clevs · 04/07/2023 22:07

Do not put bottles of red wine in the meal deal fridge. Red wine does not belong in a fridge. Put it on a shelf next to the fridge that has the meals/sides/desserts in.

Stop doing pre-packed fruit & veg and sell it loose instead. Sometimes I only want to buy two tomatoes, not six. Or enough sprouts for one Sunday roast - not a whole bag of them that is three weeks worth but then go soft before you can eat them all.

Stop, selling things just in packs of two or four. There are three people in my family so I always have one left over (I know I can freeze it and then buy a pack of two next time, but I'd like to buy the correct amount to start with).

Tesco - If a sandwich is reduced due to its date being up, if I decide to have that sandwich as part of a meal deal then the meal deal should be reduced accordingly, not charged at full price.

Tesco - bring back cucumber portions. Whole ones go soft and watery before they can get eaten.

Dear supermarket, move the parent and child wide spaces to the back or side of the car park with walkway round and put disabled bays by the doors. Not the other way round.

Abso-bloody-lutely.

Please reinstate 6L of milk so I don’t have to buy additional, smaller bottles and therefore more packaging.
