What can boys do that girls can't do?

DD(11)'s homework
If you're a girl: is there something, that you would be able to do if you were a boy, that you can't do as a girl?

She has rejected my suggestions of:
look for something that is lost
multi-tasking
going to the toilet standing up (she has a shewee, and says she would be too embarrassed to write that on her homework)

What is the best answer to this question?

What subject is this for? Wondering what the point of this exercise is and what the boys were asked, if not the same question.

Is it asking about what things are still restricted to boys/men only? So things like inherit aristocratic titles, be a catholic priest, join the Masons, play golf at certain course without a male escort etc etc ?

I’m n other countries sure the question is from the OPs daughters perspective though right? Those don’t apply to her. Maybe I’m being to specific!

I'm probably just being pedantic because it really irritates me that the class will all cheerfully discuss how girls can do anything! Hooray! And those girls will grow up to think I can do anything and we don't need feminism anymore! And then they'll be faced with the full force of the patriarchy when they want to do certain jobs or have a child.

On the flipside, men can't get cystitis

Yes they can.

Not apply for jobs because they don't meet all the criteria?

coxesorangepippin · 27/06/2023 17:46

Join the Swiss Guard. To be fair, most boys wouldn't be able to do this either unless Swiss, unmarried, Catholic, taller than 5ft 8.5" and between 19-30 years old, but she does lack a vital piece of equipment that at least gets you on the list for consideration.

Just say this

The obvious is obviously sporting related, so run a sub 10 second 100m etc. Although I suppose that may change in the future.

The less serious answer is writing your name in the snow. I reckon even with a shewee most women would find that difficult.

@Orangello

"Walk around the town late at night without safety concerns?"

+++

Have you not noticed the numerous cases in the press of 15-18 year old boys being stabbed to death in towns late at night?

dudsville · 27/06/2023 17:53

In peacemaking as i want to know the outcome of this assignment, it's very intriguing

lljkk · 27/06/2023 17:57

It's obviously not meant to be a literal question. It's a chance for her to write about how she feels about the question.

Define boy = 17yo, there's a lot 17yo males can frequently do that 17yo females can't (lift heavier things, run faster, push harder, etc.) In general, individuals vary.

Not change her name upon marriage without people thinking she's making a point

Pee easily standing up/outside
Father a child
Rape someone (not that I'd want to, but only men/ boys can)

It’s not something I want to claim equality on but women can be rapists as well.

In the U.K. - pass the SAS selection. While women can go for it, none have passed selection.

And it depends exactly what you mean by ‘go for it’ 😬

LlynTegid · 27/06/2023 18:03

The colour blind one is a sensible idea, also certain medical conditions.

A sporting one might be to name a golf club that does not admit women (there are still some I understand).

LobeliaSackville · 27/06/2023 18:04

Mummytolittleones92 · 27/06/2023 17:30

This. Tell her to put this OP!

A woman could do this if they wanted to, if the child was born before they met their current partner.

Cosycover · 27/06/2023 18:04

Shantotto · 27/06/2023 17:25

Surely the answer is no - then go on to explain how girls can do exactly the same things boys can?

But they can't.

tolerable · 27/06/2023 18:05

if you are a boy you can trans /identify as woman
you can not do that if you are a girl(already)

Not under the English legal definition they can't
Although apologies for assuming OP is in England.

ManyATrueWord · 27/06/2023 18:06

Boys can see representation like them in areas where girls can't.

Boys can walk down the street without people commenting on their bodies.

Boys can have sex without people calling them sluts.

Boys can walk around at night without constantly threat assessing.

Boys can run without worrying that someone is staring at their breasts.

JFDIYOLO · 27/06/2023 18:06

Universally only boys/men can

Develop from XY chromosomes
Produce semen and sperm
Father a baby
Commit rape (in law)
Develop an Adam's apple
Develop prostate, testicular, penile cancer

In this country only men can

Inherit titles such as baronetcies, earldoms etc
Join the masons
Become Catholic priests

Culturally and in many countries only boys/men can

Have an education
Graduate
Get a job
Own their own money and property
Divorce their spouse
Choose not to marry
Testify in court
Travel alone or with other members of their sex
Show their hair
Wear trousers

In this country only girls/women are

Told to be kind
Put up with being re-spelt, redefined
Expected to shut up, shove up, and put up with their rights being bulldozed by the opposite sex
Expected to submit as adults to sex-specific surgical procedures with zero anaesthetic and often without warning or proper consent

MarmiteyCrumpets · 27/06/2023 18:08

Walk around wearing a serious expression without being told to smile?
Walk around shirtless without being arrested?
