What can boys do that girls can't do?

DD(11)'s homework
If you're a girl: is there something, that you would be able to do if you were a boy, that you can't do as a girl?

She has rejected my suggestions of:
look for something that is lost
multi-tasking
going to the toilet standing up (she has a shewee, and says she would be too embarrassed to write that on her homework)

What is the best answer to this question?

Compete on the rings in gymnastics?
well, she wouldn't accept that as they had a gymnastics series in PE and had to do the rings!

She's 11! And it specifies girls and boys not men and women.

Surely the answer is no - then go on to explain how girls can do exactly the same things boys can?

That's not true though is it? Gender inequality still exists and women aren't permitted to do all the things men do in any countries around the world. And biological sex still exists and we are physically incapable of doing some of the things men do. Why do we all have to pretend we live in an equal society when we don't?

The youngest mother was 8 years old I believe? So yes, pregnancy and birth.

Keep your kids if your husband ditches you in UAE.
Go through life without fear of rape.
Go through life without fear of being overpowered by someone average-sized of the opposite sex.
Get paid more.
Get promoted to top jobs if you're mediocre.
Win at women's sports by identifying in.

On the flipside, men can't get cystitis.

In Afghanistan there are actually loads
of things women and girls are not allowed to

Weal · 27/06/2023 17:36

Op please come back another day and tell us what the point of the homework is.
Seems an odd story line to the book. I can’t get what the point it.

there loads of examples of biological and societally based differences I suppose. Thinks like”produce sperm”- but im not sure I’d want to write that on a kids home work!

We’re talking about children here. It states boys and girls, not male / female or man / woman. I don’t think there’s anything 11 year olds can do the other can’t?

Walk around the town late at night without safety concerns?

I don't think this is true. I think men, particularly younger men, know that they are at risk of attack from other men. They might not fear sexual assault but I think men are aware of the risk of physical assault. I know as many men assaulted at night as women, maybe slightly more.

@Shantotto there are still countries where girls aren't allowed to go to school, and could be married off by 11 without a choice who their husband is. I'd say there's a lot of things they can't do.

Danikm151 · 27/06/2023 17:39

Unconscious bias and stereotypes tell us that there are things that girls can and can’t do such as playing football but women’s football was prominent in xyz year.
attitudes in society are changing and there are now fewer boundaries. Girls are just as capable as boys.
some countries say girls can’t wear trousers, short skirts, their hair down. In reality they can it’s just the laws preventing them.

the teacher will be impressed and then ask her where she copied that from 😂🤣

Spendonsend · 27/06/2023 17:39

I would think at age 11 in the uk, there are very few things that this gjrl could suddenly now do if she were a boy.

So i think id put 'go to eton and get the eeducationand contacts all the prime minsters got'

There isnt a girls school equivilent.

I’m n other countries sure the question is from the OPs daughters perspective though right? Those don’t apply to her. Maybe I’m being to specific!

If she was an 11 year old male in Afghanistan then she could go to school. As an 11 year old girl she couldn’t.

frozendaisy · 27/06/2023 17:42

Comparing 11 year old boys and girls, then nothing.

Write "Nothing.".

Homework done.

FatLarrysBanned · 27/06/2023 17:42

Join the Swiss Guard. To be fair, most boys wouldn't be able to do this either unless Swiss, unmarried, Catholic, taller than 5ft 8.5" and between 19-30 years old, but she does lack a vital piece of equipment that at least gets you on the list for consideration.

Go around topless

This is a good one. It’s true. I see 8-9 year olds boys topless, not ever girls. I think because it wouldn’t be socially acceptable
