What can boys do that girls can't do?

DD(11)'s homework
If you're a girl: is there something, that you would be able to do if you were a boy, that you can't do as a girl?

She has rejected my suggestions of:
look for something that is lost
multi-tasking
going to the toilet standing up (she has a shewee, and says she would be too embarrassed to write that on her homework)

What is the best answer to this question?

Have her voice break during puberty.

Good one, yes!

Have her voice break during puberty.

Girls voices do break but it's more gradual and not as noticeable

Not get charged the pink tax?

If I was writing homework on this I would either say nothing of meaning in the Uk and give a few examples of going to Eton and I would say but in Afghanistan it would be very different because… or I would use historical examples of when things changed in the UK like before X I could have…. Or I would go down the anything boys can do girls can do

We tested out the 'Pink Tax' in Hull and it's awful

'Living in this body and presenting as this gender shouldn't come with an extra rent'

A boy will never need to worry about their period or experience menstrual cramps.

This is literally the only thing I can think of that is truly beyond the capability of a girl.

What if they used their own eggs but had a surrogate carry the baby.

IheardYouButDontWantToAnswer · 27/06/2023 19:35

Have an erection
Produce sperm
Wee standing up
Have a prostate examination

Maireas · 27/06/2023 19:35

Never have the fear of an unwanted pregnancy.

Sisternew · 27/06/2023 19:37

They can wee on their own face when you change their nappy

ModestMoon · 27/06/2023 19:37

If she's 11 I'd put 'Go to Eton'. No bodily fluids, true of girls her age, still points towards some structural oppression.

Girls don't have to pay the pink tax. They just have to not buy the punk products

I'd take the opportunity to write about how girls in Afghanistan cannot go to school right now, and that women and girl's ability to participate in society is dependant on men 'allowing' it, basically due to their superior physical strength.

I would get her to research into female sports and link to the first example, the fact that women in the UK have only recently been allowed by men to partake in competitive sport, e.g. football, golf, marathon running, even though their was the desire to. Get her to see the injustice of this.

No they can’t. Legal definition here.

she might have gone to prison but it wasn’t for rape.

Women can be convicted of rape though under joint enterprise. Although I agree that in the case outlined above it would be sexual assault.

An old article, but one that outlines how women can be convicted of rape https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2001/mar/17/sarahhall1

'Geezer girl' joins handful of females convicted of offence

Claire Marsh, known in the Ladbroke Grove area as a "geezer girl" who tried to out-tough boys in her gang, earned a chill notoriety yesterday by becoming one of only a handful of women to be convicted of rape.

What can't girls or women do?

Have a discussion about the restrictions and disadvantages that girls face in society without a man barging in to yell WHAT ABOUT THE MEN and list a whole bunch of things that portray women as money grabbing near prostitutes.

What can't boys or men do?

Allow women and girls to have a discussion without having to invade the conversation to inform them that because one woman has rejected a man, therefore all women and girls are inherently evil snakes with tits.

Pee easily standing up/outside
Father a child
Rape someone (not that I'd want to, but only men/ boys can)

That last one isn't actually true, sadly.

RequiresUpdating · 27/06/2023 19:57

On a slight tangent, do you really talk to your 11 year olds about rape, that no matter how hard they work they'll never be paid equally, that it's not safe to walk around town alone (when they're just starting to get independence and get the bus to places alone) etc? How do you manage that without completely freaking them out?

Do you agree or disaree that the points raised are true in some situations?

Legally it is true in the Uk at least (unless anyone subscribed to the female penis bollocks)

Ladyoftheknight · 27/06/2023 19:54

The definition of rape (in England) according to the met police website is

"The legal definition of rape is when a person intentionally penetrates another's vagina, anus or mouth with a penis, without the other person's consent."

As women don't have penises they can't rape someone.

WrinklyDad · 27/06/2023 20:00

Do you agree or disaree that the points raised are true in some situations?

Disagree. The question is about girls and boys, anyway, not men and women.

She was convicted via joint enterprise which isn’t the same, she still didn’t actually rape anyone by definition.

WrinklyDad · 27/06/2023 20:00

True in some situations doesn't mean they can't do them though.

Eg, Do some women use children as a weapon? Yes. So do some men.

WrinklyDad · 27/06/2023 20:09

ModestMoon · 27/06/2023 20:03

Disagree. The question is about girls and boys, anyway, not men and women.

If you really think that's true then enjoy the world from your blinked view. The 'all Men/Women are evil' vibe isn't a good look. Men and women are a spectrum, that's what makes life interesting.

Am sorry whoever it was treated you so badly. You deserved better.
