What can boys do that girls can't do?

DD(11)'s homework
If you're a girl: is there something, that you would be able to do if you were a boy, that you can't do as a girl?

She has rejected my suggestions of:
look for something that is lost
multi-tasking
going to the toilet standing up (she has a shewee, and says she would be too embarrassed to write that on her homework)

What is the best answer to this question?

Join a boys choir

EdgeOfACoin · 27/06/2023 17:29

Join the Masons

Compete on a level playing field against boys in the sports that favour human strength and speed (although women are more flexible in men in gymnastics and are better at endurance sports, apparently)

Rape someone

Impregnate a woman

Depends on the stage of development. No difference until puberty in strength etc.afterwards the average man is stronger than the average woman. Also different rules eg in Afghanistan teenage boys can go to school, leave the house without an escort and don't have to wear a veil

Join the Garrick Club (and a few other totally out of touch London clubs)

@ViaRia01 do you know the point of this question? Are they trying to demonstrate that women are still oppressed in some ways or that there’s nothing really that a women can’t do.
No, I don't know the point. There's nothing in the topic about oppression or other countries. The book is about a girl whose granny gave her a multicoloured Mohawk hair cut because she had nits. Mum was furious and shaved it off. Girl got upset and pretended to be her "twin" brother, made friends with a boy and tricked her class. Eventually all the kids found out it was her.

Girls can't:
Grow up to be men
Have a biological child past the age of ~45 without medical intervention
Compete against boys in most sports past onset of puberty

frozendaisy · 27/06/2023 17:31

Travel without permission in Saudi Arabia

veryfluffyfluff · 27/06/2023 17:31

Go to some male barbers even if they want a "boys" hair cut

AbsoIutelyLovely · 27/06/2023 17:31

Pretend to be the opposite sex without any disagreement

Walk down the street at night comparatively without fear

abandon your kids without any sanctions

maintain physical and mental health because your body doesn’t ensure pregnancy

enjoy a stable career because - above

be taken seriously by doctors

flaunt an out of shape body without any worry

the list is endless.

Walk around without being catcalled by old pervs? Walk around the town late at night without safety concerns?

mondaytosunday · 27/06/2023 17:32

Ha @TeenDivided that would be news to my sister, close friend, Cherie Blair...

Compete on the rings in gymnastics? Not sure if this is law

I don't think girls can fight on the front line in the British army? They didn't use to be able to about ten years ago anyway.

Women (not girls) have been able to fight on the front line since 2018.

wavingtreetops · 27/06/2023 17:33

Be confident that your career progression and earning potential won't be hampered by having children?

Impregnate a woman?

Atticus999 · 27/06/2023 17:34

I’m certain parts of the world a woman wouldn’t be allowed to display certain parts of her body / head.

Mummytolittleones92 · 27/06/2023 17:27

We’ve given examples of things cannot do though. I suppose it’s ambiguous. Girls could technically ‘do’ these things, they are just prevented by laws and legislation from doing so.

I didn’t think boys could join the SAS either! 😃

I’m reading it as what someone of the opposite sex of similar age could do that the girl couldn’t - not looking so far ahead as to when said boy is a grown man he can do something she can’t.

veryfluffyfluff · 27/06/2023 17:34

Take paternity leave when they grow up

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/06/2023 17:34

Benefit from a system that continually places the means of production and self realisation in the hands of the opposite sex.

Exist anywhere without having to be constantly mindful of the likelihood of and potential for sexual assault.

Have full control of their fertility.

Make decisions regarding women's reproductive wishes.

Be alone with a male without already having a full risk assessment complete with strategy for escape.

Be in possession of absolute, assailable confidence that they are entitled to behave exactly how they wish towards girls and women.

Know that pound for pound, inch for inch, they are overwhelmingly likely to be far faster, stronger and more physically robust.
