I’ve just listened to The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and 11.22.63. Loved them all!

What next please?

Thanks!

I loved the Dark Tower series. The first book is The Gunslinger.

Mr Mercedes

SquashPenguin · 21/06/2023 08:44

The Stand
Mr Mercedes
Misery

Nara2k · 21/06/2023 08:44

Mr Mercedes is the first in a short series of detective novels, more like the ones you've mentioned than the horror novels

EamonsPalliativeCareTracksuit · 21/06/2023 08:45

Insomnia. I live for the day they make a film of this.

Misery

4pink1blue · 21/06/2023 08:46

A short one Joyland. Or a long one The Stand, my absolute favourite.

tothesea · 21/06/2023 08:47

The Shining…a masterclass in a creeping sense of dread.

hohumpigsbum · 21/06/2023 08:53

From a Buick 8 and Rose Madder

Both I've read only recently as was convinced I wouldn't like them. Was completely blown away by both. SK's talent as a writer is just unfathomable.

CountFoscosMice · 21/06/2023 08:55

Huge huge SK fan here too. Love any thread about his books and people discussing them!
I love his short stories the best of all - have you tried any of those? Maybe start with a classic anthology like Skeleton Crew.
He is indeed an absolute master of the craft.

CountFoscosMice · 21/06/2023 08:56

Or - if you're using Audible - get IT which is hours and hours and hours long!

Came on to recommend this one!

LabRat90 · 21/06/2023 08:56

I always enjoyed the one he wrote under his 'Richard Bachman' pen name, especially Running Man and Rage.

ticketstickets · 21/06/2023 08:56

the Stand. Under the Dome. Dolores Claiborne. Revival. The institute. Carrie.

Could never get into the dark tower series.

Enjoyed most of the short story collections too.

I don't agree with this list but you might find it helpful. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/books/g41054461/best-stephen-king-books-ranked/

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 21/06/2023 08:57

He published some under the name Bachman (the longest walk, running man etc) which are brilliant. Running man is nothing like the film btw.
Longest walk has stayed with me for a very long time. Scary that it once seemed so out there.

ticketstickets · 21/06/2023 08:58

I think I have read, or attempted to read, every single one of his books. I think I like his later books better although a few of the earlier ones are excellent.

I must have read (and watched) the Stand a dozen times.

Needhelp101 · 21/06/2023 08:58

Any of his short story collections!

ticketstickets · 21/06/2023 09:03

also Rose Madder is good.

I think they did. It started Robin Williams if I remember rightly.

Starred even

sixswans · 21/06/2023 09:12

The Dead Zone. The OUtsider.

DraconianDen · 21/06/2023 09:12

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is the one I always recommend - a bit different from his normal full on horror style but still amazing!

EffortlessDesmond · 21/06/2023 09:13

The Stand, and The Shining, as suggested above.
