The more I read about the "Adventure company" the more shoddy they seem sadly.

If they are on the bottom of the sea bed, and if by some miracle they are located, how is the rescue mission actually going to lift the vessel off the seabed and winch it several miles to the surface? You can't send a diver down to secure chains/ropes and cable to secure it around the vessel and then winch it to the surface.

Apparently there are only two vessels in the World with equipment that would potentially reach down that far as well.

It’s seems impossible and I’m wondering why they haven’t already started trying to get these potentially vehicles to the site?

YoSof · 21/06/2023 09:10

Yes I did and I stand by it.

They are very close to running out of oxygen. If they find it on the ocean floor, they can’t recover it.

If they find it on the surface, they don’t think have enough time to get it back to the mothership where the tool is to release them all.

Of course I was hoping they would be found and rescued, but at this stage an instant death is the least worst outcome. The reports of them banging and still being conscious/alive is beyond awful when there is so little chance of rescue now. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

They still have a bit more than 25 hours of oxygen left, it is thought.

Tremel · 21/06/2023 08:39

*Agreed, and given some of the assets involved such as aircraft/ships would be flying/sailing anyway (for pure training purpose) I'm not sure how much extra any rescue/recovery attempt actually adds to the various coastguard and military budgets(

🤣🤣 I'm sorry but that is laughable

So you think P-3 Orions or the Canadian Navy/USGC just sit in port, costing the tax payer nil money on days when they are not required to do rescues?

That really is laughable.

lollipoprainbow · 21/06/2023 09:19

I woke up in the night and thought about this absolutely horrific, my absolute worst nightmare combined, enclosed space and deep water.

Of course not. I mean the ridiculous concept that as they are out training anyway this mission won't cost much.

they knew the risks, the risk of death is mentioned 3 times i read

I think a lot of people don't necessarily take these disclaimers seriously, people think it's a health and safety tickbox but have faith in the professionals doing the job. Atleast that's how I felt when I was told about risk of maternal death on the paperwork I had to sign before my c-section. It'll be a harrowing feeling when they are now realising it was a very real risk after all.

Bluedab · 21/06/2023 09:21

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls i see a lot of people mentioning the titanic area is a grave site and it doesnt sit well with some that people want to visit it. There are lots of 'grave site' tours - auschwitz, the site of twin towers, pompai etc. I agree people should be respectful when visiting these sites but whats the problem with visiting?

tortoishelll · 21/06/2023 09:23

The fact a 19 year old boy is on board, is just utterly heartbreaking.

I can't help but I feel this is all very ironic. Visiting somewhere with such heartbreak, terror and tragedy. Best to let things be.

Bluedab · 21/06/2023 09:24

Sounds of banging are being reported on the news near the site

storminamooncup · 21/06/2023 09:25

Being able to hear bangs actually makes it worse - imagine being a rescuer and knowing that they were still alive but you weren't able to get to them in time.

With no bangs then you could convince yourself they were already dead.

It's vv unlikely they will be found in time. I hope they are though.

Tbf people don't put any lives at risk by visiting those places!

On the plus side, we haven’t had Peter Faulding turn up saying if they’re in the ocean then his company can find them.

😆
True though

Wheresthebeach · 21/06/2023 09:27

They have reported the banging, but also that they still may not be able to get them out even if they find the capsule. Horrific.

onlywayissussex · 21/06/2023 09:27

Poor 19 year old and his
Family

The rest on board are silly old men with too much money to waste

And no doubt the rescue operation costs enough to run a small country

I cannot fathom why they wanted to go

I actually felt sick when they reported banging ,as a Mother I cannot imagine the sheer terror that the teenagers Mum is going through knowing your child is alive and suffering…I had hoped a catastrophe had killed them all, rather than suffering. An absolutely hideous situation !

inigomontoyahwillcox · 21/06/2023 09:29

If they were to locate it would they be able to use the underwater ROVs to attach an inflatable and inflate it to float the sub up to the surface? I'm struggling to think of any other way of rescue (not that I am any kind of expert).

kirinm · 21/06/2023 09:29

I'm a bit confused by some of the reporting. This presumably isn't the first time anyone has reached the wreck? As one of the people in the sub has supposedly seen the wreck multiple times.

So what makes this such an unusual voyage (?). Is it that it is carrying non professional divers or the sub itself?

Atticus999 · 21/06/2023 09:31

The banging was heard by floating buoys with hydrophones correct ? (The fed to an aircraft)? Does this suggest that they are not so far from the surface? How far down can those buoys detect sound? 😬

I am following this story and I have to say, I sniff an ugly, classist stench of people implying that, as people in the vessel are basically wealthy, they deserve their destiny for taking such a stupid risk.

Throughout History, progress has relied in innovators, travellers and people of "crazy" ideas who were ready to put themselves at risk to follow them through. These people came from all socioeconomic strata of society. Some people put their lives at risk by trying to challenge themselves climbing a mountain (I do!). Others leave friends and family behind to discover new horizons. others jump on an extremely unseaworthy boat to try to reach the promised land of a country to have a better life for themselves and their children. Others visit amazing but dangerous places (such as active volcanoes, or deserts, or frigid cold places like Antarctica). Others spend their wealth risk their lives and integrity in missions that seem crazy to others.

Yes, they may perish in their adventure. But they may not, and hence live a life of wonder and excitement. The alternative is to never take any risks and live a life of vicariously living through others. i know which side I am on.

If I had that kind of money, I may be one who jumps in the Titanic submarine, or on a spaceship to the International Space Station. As things go, I have to be content with exploring my backward and trying to challenge myself to get higher, further and to more beautiful places. I do take all precautions (I am well trained, carry all my gear and a PLB), but eventually we can all get unlucky. I can fall of a high rock and kill myself. Or, you know, any of the comfy ones who criticise these guys can get run over by a car tomorrow while you cross the street. Do you think not doint great things in life protects yopu against an early death?

All choices are respectable, but what I do know is, the day I die I'd much rather leave an exciting life behind. Even if that means I leave this world in an imploding submarine caught on a sticking piece of the Titanic's bow. What a bloody amazing way to go! You guys can live to a hundred in a rest home telling the other residents about what you had for breakfast that morning, if you even remember that.

That's obviously how they think too

13,000 feet.....

painfullegos · 21/06/2023 09:32

This is a situation where you are reminded how small and vulnerable we are against natural environments and Mother Nature. No money in the world can save you. Something goes wrong in space, you're fucked, down in deep sea also and in highest mountains. I really hope they find them.

tortoishelll · 21/06/2023 09:33

I'm the thing that confuses me, is that the sounds could be literally anything. They can't guarantee that it's the sound of those inside the sub..
they also mentioned it was completely regular, like x amount of times per 30 minutes.

TokyoSushi · 21/06/2023 09:33

I think the potential banging makes the whole thing worse, it would be absolutely incredible if they were able to a) find it and b) get them out in time.

I was also thinking about this last night! It really is the stuff of nightmares.
