Just seen this article and had to share - I can't believe the hateful language used by the author:

'High profile people, who I consider transphobic, like some politicians and former role models – who aren’t even worthy of the term ‘TERF’ (meaning trans exclusionary radical feminist) as it has ‘feminist’ in the name, and that they most certainly are not – have made it their mission to stoke a panic over trans people'.

I have no issue with trans women using the loos I'm in - you shouldn't either

Today, I'm sick and frustrated of the obsessive, hateful loud siren voices who act as if they're speaking for all cis women.

Yeah that's not a problem. Because old beardy muscle 💪 head is still a female right?

She did a good job of passing , was challenged and explained the situation. Finit.

If it actually happened....

literalviolence · 20/06/2023 13:39

She' had an empathy bypass I think

"Because I’m sick and frustrated of the obsessive, hateful loud siren voices who act as if they’re speaking for all cis women – for all feminists – when they fight to keep trans women out of single-sex spaces." I am speaking for women who are just women, not speaking for cis women at all (not sure there's many women who actually call themselves cis and Emmie is misgendering when she calls them that without their permission.

"Why are we still, depressingly, debating who is and isn’t allowed in women’s toilets?". It is depressing, because men should not be allowed in.

"First of all, let me get this straight: trans women are women." Yet Emmie, like many others, won't say what a woman is.

"They are not inherently dangerous, and they are not men. They are women – plain and simple.". They are men. Most men aren't inherently dangerous but most inherently dangerous people are men.

"As a cis woman, I also want to make clear that they are welcome in my single-sex spaces – like women’s toilets, changing rooms and ladies’ ponds.". Welcome them into your spaces then, not mine.

"Under the Equality Act (2010), venues have the right to allow trans people access to single-sex spaces". No, they can't be discriminated against because they are trans. But men can be kept our of women's spaces.

"This means that trans women have been using women’s toilets in line with the law for years, long before toilets became a hot-button issue.". Men have been raping and oppressing women forever too. Doesn't make it OK.

Rishi was not mocking transwomen, he was mocking people like Emmie who are so interested in showing their PC credentials that they actually showcase their authoritarian leanings and inability to recognise their privilege.

I couldn’t be bothered to read the article in the OP but I’m sure it’s contributed to some more “peaking”.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/06/2023 13:44

Reassuringly, 100% of the comments under that article are negative.

I've seen a post a person is complaining some transman was using the ladies in her workplace. And she confronted the person, been told that he was born xx he was told to use the bathroom.
Those who oppose to transwoman using ladies, you must be ok with a muscly transman with beard or whatever sharing the rest room with you, right?

All hunky dory thanks

The chance of sexual asssault by that muscly bearded person is minuscule so yeah, all good by me

Those people are all on instagram. The ones you see in real life are usually small and tubby and you can tell by the eyes they are female.

I think they should use whichever bathroom they want, to be safe. They may not be safe in the men's as women are vulnerable to men.

Fine by me. They're a woman and always will be. If you have a problem with it, what do you think about a women's toilet and a toilet for men, and anyone else who has decided to take medication which significantly androgynises their body? Though some men might object to women being in their toilets just because they've chosen to take some tablets.

Unfortunately a lot of people won’t drop it, and feel like it’s their job to police people.

It is everyone's job to police people. That's what keeps a society safe.

Think this journalist needs to check her priviledge

just because she doesn't feel threatened by transwomen in womens spaces doesn't mean everyone else feels the same

That was written by a journalist? A fully trained one? Not just someone on a week's work experience from Year 9 at school?

If so, the Metro are scraping the bottom of barrel aren't they? Over fifty words and the only full stop is at the end in that quote alone!

Maybe she needs to head back to English classes to learn more about punctuation. Or stop using the term 'journalist' as she obviously isn't one.

Yes of course. A trans man is a biological woman. Christ, why do you all have to pretend to be so dense with these gotcha questions?

It would be much better if all buildings have a proper amount of space to toilets and had them like an M&S I went in the other day. They had four ‘rooms’ each completely solid floor to ceiling walls and doors and the doors were thick. Each room was big enough for a wheelchair or pram and contained a toilet, a sink, a sanitary bin, a fold down baby changing table and an emergency call cord. Then everyone regardless of religion, experiences, sex etc can use a space for whatever they need it for in a dignified and private way.

Sounds fine, how were they dealing with the piss on the floor and the seat from the badly aimed penises?

Honestly I find toilets shared by men are just a big grimmer. Pee splats in front of the bowl, paper screwed up and missing the bin, etc. Not filthy, just not really aware that the next person might be sitting down to pee, putting a bag on the floor and hitching up clothes to deal with a menstrual cup etc.

Mixed sex loos might seem like a simple solution to sidestep the trans demand for special access, but they still take away from female people.

fiftyandfat · 20/06/2023 14:36

I just rewatched Menno's "in the ladies" video. Useful reminder of why breaking down social norms and removing women's rights is a bad idea.

🎶 In The Ladies! 🎶 (A MrMenno Parody)

If anyone can identify as a woman, then the laws and spaces meant to protect women become meaningless. Who do you think belongs in the ladies? 🤔#InTheLadies...

Confusedmumannoyedson · 20/06/2023 14:58

Oh dear, so basically she is saying she hasn't a problem and anyone that does is a bigot or whatever and why should anyone have a problem if she doesn't. No account of the needs of anyone other than the biological man who feels like he is now a woman. Sod the women with any concerns they should just step aside.

What a delightful person the writer of the article is (NOT).

MyGrandmaLizzie · 20/06/2023 15:40

Metro is a really captured news site with a TRA agenda. I stopped reading it a while ago as it made me so annoyed.
I left a comment that Emmie needs to do some thinking and consider other women views.

viques · 20/06/2023 14:17

It wasn’t just any toilet, it was an m&s toilet!

Honestly I can’t answer that. It was very clean when I used it but I can’t say how often it’s cleaned or if it’s kept clean all the time etc. I just personally felt so much more comfortable using that kind of facility and I can imagine women with small children, women using a mooncup, women who have bad experiences and many more would feel more comfortable in them. Unfortunately it’ll never happen everywhere because of space as another mentioned but I do like them where I can use them. But again that’s my opinion and due to my own bad experiences, as I mentioned in another post, I can’t speak for all women and there are women on here who have said they don’t like these kinds of toilets.

mamnotmum · 20/06/2023 11:38

Why can't we just have toilets?! A toilet and sink in a small enclosed room for anyone to use?

This would also help with queuing. The nonsense of queuing for a ladies toilets when the mens is empty is insanity.

There are ridiculous and outdated regs around toilet provision v the sq ft of a building and percentage of male v female.

Cubicles while wholly a good idea take up more space and reduced the actual provision.

cocksstrideintheevening · 20/06/2023 16:01

DemonicCaveMaggot · 20/06/2023 11:45

I don't mind sharing a restroom area with a transwoman, but it isn't about me is it? The women who do mind have very good reasons for doing so.

Restrooms should start being as Mamnotmum described, self contained with a toilet and sink in the same room, and doors and walls going up to a ceiling.

Changing rooms in the US were on the shop floor with lockable doors. Many had walls that went up to the ceiling but if they didn't it would be obvious to everyone else shopping if someone started looking over the top of cubicles. They need to be like that in shops here, not stuck down a hallway with curtains as closures and a 16 year old Saturday girl left to supervise them.

Have you been in toilets in the US they have massive gaps down the sides
Of the stalls. They're awful.

LizzieSiddal · 20/06/2023 16:03

She’s entitled to her opinions. The vast majority of women disagree with her.

PickAChew · 20/06/2023 16:08

Good for you, Emmie but please retrain from telling other women that they should shut up and accept it. You don't speak for me or anyone else.

I bet you'd be less accepting of AI taking over your job (and probably writing better articles, Emmie). I'm fine with that. You should be too.

EllaRaines · 20/06/2023 17:38

Duncan is a gay man but he defends women's rights as seen here in his reply to Mark Grimshaw who thinks it's wrong that a woman took a photo of Eddie Izzard who is a man wearing women's clothing and who is fiddling with his cock whilst in the queue for the ladies toilets!

Welcome to Bizarro world.
