I thought most people had a 'treat' every day

I always have a piece of cake/few biscuits etc with a cuppa when I get home from work. I thought most people did it. But my running partner says she never eats sweet food as she never fancies it. Her treat would be a handful of nuts! We always have biscuits etc at work as well. Does anyone else rarely have a sweet treat? I don't think I could survive without it

I eat something sweet every day of my life, and always have done! I wish I didn't have a sweet tooth, but even though I love savoury food I always feel I need to finish with something sweet.

GreyCarpet · 19/06/2023 22:54

Tbh, I never had them in for my children either. Neither of them like sweet stuff particularly. My daughter used to bring birthday cake home from parties and her dad would eat it. She has tomatoes, cucumber, cheese and humous for breakfast. She's 17 so that's not me being cruel or a wanker - it's her choice.

She'll get herself something sweet if she fancies it but she doesn't often. We never have tubs of ice cream, sweets or biscuits. I can't remember the last time I bought any of them.

My boyfriend, however, he has a whole 'treat' cupboard at mine and he cant believe we dont buy it because he loves it 🤣 we don't even go down the snack aisles in the supermarkets.

I'd be 20st if I did this.

I don't get how anyone can eat like this and have a healthy bmi.

Of course someone can have a few biscuits, a slice of cake or a bar a chocolate every day and have a healthy BMI.
Alongside other good more nutritious food and exercise, drinking water or other fluids and decent sleep it's very common I should think.

No. I don't keep baguette and lovely butter in the house because I would eat it all.
Don't have a sweet tooth.

Cuppa makes me want to 🤮

Lovely butter is my downfall too. I only buy it at Christmas and special occasions.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/06/2023 23:03

DI’m not have a sweet tooth at all. Treat of choice is cheese and crackers.

CeriB82 · 19/06/2023 23:03

A treat a day, no thanks. Nothing to look forward to every day.

over the summer its a 99 from the ice cream van. Every Friday if its there

BoogiemanSam · 19/06/2023 23:08

I do but that’s why I am a fat shit.

Emmamoo89 · 19/06/2023 23:09

Ya not the only one!

guineacup · 19/06/2023 23:19

Treats are evil and for weaklings with no willpower or morals.

1stTimeMama · 19/06/2023 23:21

I have a sweet tooth, but only have a chocolate bar once a week. I love cake, and biscuits and all the fun stuff, nice bread and rolls etc. but I have Celiac disease, and the gluten free versions are just rubbish so I'd just rather not bother with the disappointment. As long as you're eating a balance of other things too, enjoy....and have an extra slice for me 😉

islandofserenity · 19/06/2023 23:35

I don't have a sweet tooth but love crisps lol and ive always been slim. MY mum was fit, healthy, didn't smoke or drink ,had a healthy lifestyle and still died of breast cancer when she was 53! Life is short, so eat what you{don't eat} what you want.

bonfirebash · 19/06/2023 23:37

I have a couple of bits of chocolate a day, usually some dark stuff with salt as I love it

For me my treat is something really high calorie or that I can't afford to eat every day so it could be Aldi cinnamon buns (so good warmed up!) or prepared mango (love it with tajin, can't afford it every week)

I suck a very thin slice of cucumber once every three months, I never swallow it though, can you imagine what a lard arse I'd be? tinkly cry

lol!! your post has provided some light relief! 😀

I’m making my way through this interesting thread. On page 4 so far. I used to be able to eat anything but now I can’t get away with that. It’s hard to stop doing what I’ve always done.

Chocolate ice cream is my vice. I can do without other sweets, although if we’ve got other things in the house I would be tempted just because it’s there.

This thread is inspiring me to try to cut back to a ladylike (is that word allowed on mn?) one serving of ice cream (1/2 or 2/3 cup?) after dinner. Under 200 calories I think. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, as tonight (it’s almost 1am in the USA) I’ve had a lot of ice cream and then a chocolate croissant that my husband brought home, wouldn’t normally have that. I feel awful now.

Hoping for success.

I will never forget a post I read on here where a woman said she found fruit so sweet, she could only eat a piece every few months. Utterly bizarre

TBH I am a bit like that. Fruit actually plays havoc with my blood sugar and I get all faint and shaky unless i am really careful about eating it with protein. I don't have diabetes- been tested- but I am clearly quite sensitive to it. Grapes and watermelon in particular make me feel really unwell.

I don't have a sweet tooth at all. My go-to treats would be oatcakes butter and roquefort. I am 2 stone overweight so rarely eat it and definitely would consider that very self indulgent. I'm not sure i 'treat' daily but I do tend to eat 3 fairly enormous meals.

TiredOfCleaning · 20/06/2023 06:13

Also... [musing]... I don't really consider biscuits, chocolate and crisps food. It isn't food. It's something to eat, but not food. Cake is food though, if homemade. But like I said I am 2 stone overweight so i am not being all pious about it. It's just how I feel about it. If I am going to eat though I want it to be worth it.

I am too. I can't eat melon, pineapples or bananas at all. Haven't been able to for years they're just too sweet. When I used to eat apples, I had the sharper ones. The only fruit I eat now really are blueberries and raspberries.

I cut down on the amount of sugar I ate massively a few years ago and now so many things taste sweet enough that aren't really very sweet at all.

I don't know why people find people who don't like sweet things so ridiculous tbh.

I agree with this too.

No food is a 'treat', just as no food is 'bad' or 'sinful'. That way, madness lies.

Food is food. Enjoy whatever you like in moderation.

Your attitude to food is screwed if you limit treat food to once a fortnight!

Your attitude to food is screwed if you consider food to be a treat.

dont reward with food

tracylamont13 · 20/06/2023 07:06

I have some dark chocolate every evening.

RosaGallica · 20/06/2023 07:11

I take it Op that you are blissfully unaware of the daily struggles of many people to just feed themselves? Have you lived on another planet to be so unaware? How the other half lives…

LolaSmiles · 20/06/2023 07:19

I don't get how anyone can eat like this and have a healthy bmi
It depends on their metabolism, body shape, and overall eating and exercise habits.

There's 50-100 calories in a biscuit depending on the type. Someone having a couple of biscuits a day could easily be adding 200 calories a day to their intake just on having a couple of biscuits a day. If they have treat mindset then that probably influences their other eating habits as well.

If I wanted, I could probably have a biscuit with my coffee most days and not pile the weight on because of the type of biscuits I like and I'd have one. It wouldn't be a treat though because food is neutral and everything is fine in moderation. Not having treat mentality means that I'm unlikely to be rewarding myself with food throughout the day.
