I thought most people had a 'treat' every day

I always have a piece of cake/few biscuits etc with a cuppa when I get home from work. I thought most people did it. But my running partner says she never eats sweet food as she never fancies it. Her treat would be a handful of nuts! We always have biscuits etc at work as well. Does anyone else rarely have a sweet treat? I don't think I could survive without it

I eat cake or biscuits every day and I'm size 8/10. My husband likewise and he has visible abs.
Calories in, calories out.
Eat food you enjoy, sugar won't make you fat, eating more calories than you burn consistently will make you fat.
Eating a balanced diet is nothing to do with a slice of a cake or couple of biscuits, if you also eat 25 different veg and fruit in a week, a range of different proteins, whole grains... follow the 80/20 rule. Eat 80% 'healthy'.

Something that happens every day is a habit, not a treat. And no, if I ate cake or biscuits every day I would be even fatter than I am despite all the organic vegetables and the exercise. But maybe you aren't one of those people whose metaboism hates you, lucky you.

This. Every day isn't a treat.

Apricotflanday · 19/06/2023 21:20

Yes, though it's my normal diet, not treats.

I'm nearer a size 12 than 10 since starting hrt, but not too bothered.

LolaSmiles · 19/06/2023 21:21

I don't buy into the 'treat' mentality.I know it sounds flippant but when I hear people talking about treats after a hard day or they're treating themselves to a biscuit it makes me think "you're not a dog!"

I have a biscuit or something similar a few times a week, everything in moderation because I enjoy them. They're not treats though. They're just part of a balanced diet and they'd be a quick thing to drop it I wanted to reduce calorie intake.

Blueberrylemoncake · 19/06/2023 21:21

I treat myself about every 15 minutes 😂

Berangere · 19/06/2023 21:23

I have been on mat leave for 11 months and got into such a habit of having a treat or 2 every day. Couldn’t go and get a coffee without also getting a pastry even if I’d already had breakfast. After a stressful nap settle I would have some biscuits to reward myself. DH would buy ice creams on the way home. Always garlic bread with bolognese!
I have just started calorie counting and though it sounds obvious, I simply hadn’t realised just how much extra I was eating every day.
So yes, I would have a treat every day but since releasing how much weight I’ve put on, I was blind to all the extra I was eating for the premise of treating myself when I was down/stressed/upset…

@JanesBlond

I'm sorry to hear about the PCOS, and obviously your health situation is complex. I'm still finding it hard to understand how wholemeal bread with peanut butter could be unhealthy for you or a cause of weight gain? (I'm not doubting your specific situation, just hadn't heard this).

It’s about the ratio of carbs to fat/protein, apparently. I told her I don’t hold back on the PB Grin but apparently that’s not enough to change the balance.

3WildOnes · 19/06/2023 21:23

I eat some sort of 'sweet treat' most days. I'm very slim.

flowertoday · 19/06/2023 21:23

I eat some cake or chocolate every day. Not huge portions though. I also have full fat milk and cheese most days among other foods.
I am slim, sometimes on the skinny side of slim. I don't believe that normal amounts of a range of foods is a road to obesity.

gogohmm · 19/06/2023 21:25

No because I'm not capable of eating a few biscuits or slice of cake - I'd eat the whole packet! No self control when it comes to sugar so I just don't buy them

Comedycook · 19/06/2023 21:25

I will never forget a post I read on here where a woman said she found fruit so sweet, she could only eat a piece every few months. Utterly bizarre

ploopypleepy · 19/06/2023 21:25

I eat chocolate/biscuit/cake iof some sort every day, as well as full fat milk and cheese. And I'm slim.

Spanielsarepainless · 19/06/2023 21:27

I have biscuits or cake or chocolate every day (actually, chocolate every day) with my afternoon cup of tea.

InTodaysNews · 19/06/2023 21:28

I'm not bothered for sweet stuff such as cake and chocolate etc, until it's that time of the month.
Then I mainline fruit cake for a day or two before forgetting about it again until next month.

islandofserenity · 19/06/2023 21:29

I have something sweet maybe 3 times per week but i love crisps ( maybe 4 days ill have crisps. i'm slim, fit, don't drink or smoke but was diagnosed with slight high blood pressure a few months ago.

babyproblems · 19/06/2023 21:30

I don’t have a sugary treat every day no.. I’d be huge if I did! I do drink too much coffee though if that counts. X

Egghead68 · 19/06/2023 21:31

I eat ice-cream/cake/chocolate almost everyday, alongside loads of berries/yoghurt/nuts/pulses/whole grains/veg and exercise. Why wouldn’t you, if you like them, can afford them and you’re not overweight?

FavouriteDogMug · 19/06/2023 21:33

I understand a lot of people like to do low carb, but even then they often have some kind of keto treat every day.

PoppyPansyCampion · 19/06/2023 21:33

TinyBarista · 19/06/2023 20:12

Cor these PPs are not my people... Snack time is alive and well in my house. A little bit of what you fancy does you good! As long as you don't go overboard and eat a multipack if Lion bars. Again.

Haha quite!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 19/06/2023 21:35

I don't think of something sweet as a treat. I'll have biscuits/chocolate/cake rarely. Only when I really fancy it.

I do snack on crisps, nuts, cheese etc. A sweet treat isn't a treat to me. The savoury treats are where it's at. The odd Greggs Steak Back.

5128gap · 19/06/2023 21:38

I have chocolate, biscuits, cake or dessert every day and have done since I was a child. In the evening an hour or so after dinner. Never any other time of day. I sometimes have a packet of crisps as well. The rest of my diet is very healthy, whole food vegan and i barely drink alcohol. I'm 53 BMI 21 and fit as a fiddle.

LostFrog · 19/06/2023 21:41

I have a treat of some sort every day. I am fit, healthy and have never been overweight in my life (I am 45). I think I eat pretty well, and enjoy food without guilt. I would hate to have to ration treats in that way. I don’t believe that she really thinks nuts are a treat ffs, that’s just utterly joyless.

Strawberrydelight78 · 19/06/2023 21:42

Not every day I don't buy cake in. I buy the odd treat cake and ice-cream etc when out. I buy a multipack of crisps but we don't have them often. Sometimes take out with us if on a day out for the journey. But mostly at home we have fruit and greek yoghurt. I stopped buying flavoured yoghurt years ago. The kids just wanted to eat them all at once then made them hyper. They're hyper enough as it is. If I get a pack of Biscuits they go soft. So buy the snack pack one's to have in.

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/06/2023 21:43

I do, most days - but say if I fancied biscuits and a brew for lunch, it would be instead of the current standard lunch (hummus, veg, crispbreads), not as well as.

Not always, im not a miserable fucker and id rather be a bit too fat than bored and unsatisfied denying myself every lovely thing going!

However decisions made about me, my body and my life may not fit with you, your body, your life.

Off to have my current standard dinner ( 'same fooding' its an ADHD/ARFID thing for me)... 'massive salad' (as no other kind will do) with some halloumi and some quorn thingy. Might have some choc after. Dunno.

Dentistlakes · 19/06/2023 21:43

I usually have a couple of squares of dark chocolate most days. Unfortunately I do have quite a sweet tooth so wouldn’t be able to control myself if I kept biscuits and cake in the house!
