I thought most people had a 'treat' every day

I always have a piece of cake/few biscuits etc with a cuppa when I get home from work. I thought most people did it. But my running partner says she never eats sweet food as she never fancies it. Her treat would be a handful of nuts! We always have biscuits etc at work as well. Does anyone else rarely have a sweet treat? I don't think I could survive without it

I don’t have a treat every day - surely it’s not a treat if it’s routine? If I ate sweets/chocolate/cake/biscuits/crisps or whatever every day I’d be the size of a house. I do eat nuts most days though, I don’t consider them a treat.

That is illogical. Chocolate isn’t going to make you the size of a house any more than nuts do. They are both calorie dense but as long as you don’t eat too much overall, it’s fine.,

beAsensible1 · 19/06/2023 22:16

i would saw when im pre menstrual i'll have sweets or something most days but outside of that. maybe once or twice a week.

I can tell when its been more as a spot will appear! For day to day "treats" i'll get sexy fruit

Applesandpears01 · 19/06/2023 22:21

I sometimes have a full lettuce leaf not just my regulation half!

RampantIvy · 19/06/2023 22:22

GrinAndVomit · 19/06/2023 22:25

Yes

I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, cake’s what I do.

Actually they provoke a very different insulin response in the body, so even in the same caloric amounts can cause weight gain in someone whose metabolism predisposes them to do so when facing sugar, like me.

My treat is a juicy orange and a pink lady apple watching a bit of telly right at the end of the day.
It has to be at that time of day.

I also eat chocolate, crisps and love bread and butter. We don't have loads in the house as me and my son agreed that we don't need it; we go out and about enough and he's with his mates.

I am also a competitive and pretty decent runner. Cake at the end of a race is the norm in the club running world.
I have a full time sedentary job. I do some sort of sport 6 days a week and often throw in a power walk late in the day.
I tend to graze. Lots of fresh veg etc.
I am 52 and in perimenopause. I am the low end of the healthy BMI range - classic long distance runner physique.

Dunno, maybe I'm skinny fat, or burning it off, or it balances out over time.

I have often been at the end of "oooo aren't you naughty" when I'm eating something I regard as perfectly normal - a KitKat or a slice of cake, and I can't be doing with it. If I fancy a KitKat I'll have one. I'll reign it in if I start to fancy 10 KitKats.

Bearpawk · 19/06/2023 22:35

I used to, but I now have 2 squares of dark choc on an evening. I've actually come to see that as a treat now !
Rarely eat biscuits as I don't buy them, cake or dessert maybe a couple of times a month when eating out.

Brokendaughter · 19/06/2023 22:37

How is it a treat if you have it every day?

Do you think having a shower every day is a treat?
Or brushing your hair?

A treat is something nice (not necessarily food) that you don't usually have.

In lockdown, we ended up having more 'treats' than usual because there wasn't much else we could do.
It made them less enjoyable, so even my son decided it was nicer to cut back & have treat foods less often.
We just didn't appreciate them when they were pretty much every day.

heartofglass23 · 19/06/2023 22:37

I'd be 20st if I did this.

I don't get how anyone can eat like this and have a healthy bmi.

Maddy70 · 19/06/2023 22:37

Nope I never have anything sweet. (Well very very rarely )

sunshineandtea · 19/06/2023 22:38

I have a treat multiple times a day hahah. I'm not fat (60Kg and 167cm tall)
Have a thing got Aldi dreamies at the moment 🫶🏼

Lifeomars · 19/06/2023 22:39

couple of plainish biscuits with mug of tea at about 5.30pm if I am at home. I don't have sugar in hot drinks, don't have salad dressing, have a take away about twice a year, no butter in sandwiches, I think it all balances it out. if in the main your diet is based on fresh healthy food. I never fry stuff, I don;t eat ready meals. I am fatter than I'd like to be but I walk most days. I would scoff rubbish all day if it had no effect on my health and weight as I love eating!

GalileoHumpkins · 19/06/2023 22:40

I suck a very thin slice of cucumber once every three months, I never swallow it though, can you imagine what a lard arse I'd be? tinkly cry

BarbaraofSeville · 19/06/2023 22:40

I walked past a raisin yesterday so that's me done until Christmas when I might hold a crisp in my hand for a few moments.

No-one needs any more than that, no wonder there's an obesity crisis

bbyno2 · 19/06/2023 22:43

I may have thought the same.

But they are a real HUMAN thing https://groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-dairyfine-dreemy-treat-size-256g/4088600265391

People on this thread are hilarious, you'd be obese if you ate a couple of biscuits a day?

OP I'm a size 8 and I have tea and biscuits/cake every day. Sometimes I even have a Cornetto too 😯

I had a Magnum lolly this evening, one of those dark chocolate and strawberry ones, it was divine

GreyCarpet · 19/06/2023 22:46

I don't eat cake, biscuits or anything sweet at all.

I don't like sugary stuff. I don't like the weird taste/sensation from eating it.

I don't see myself as better than or virtuous because of it - I just don't like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

waistchallenge · 19/06/2023 22:47

I used to when I was severely overweight, don't any more.

Rubycoola · 19/06/2023 22:47

I do. I need to lose weight but I I'm not motivated ( need to lose about 2 stone)

I eat badly. White carbs, packet of crisps everyday, little chocolately snack in the afternoon and evening.

I can eat healthily and lose weight fairly quickly while in the mind-set to do.so. I'm just not at the moment, I love what I eat and balance it with fresh, homecooked meals! (I also don't smoke or drunk so I figure I need a vice!)

WiddlinDiddlin · 19/06/2023 22:47

A treat you don't have every day, thats a special treat.

My chunk of chocolate or 5 Petit Beurre biscuits once a day is a standard treat. I have it instead of the equal calories and sugar in something more boring.

It is a treat in comparison eating 13 cucumbers!

I just look at it from afar- longingly- while chomping on dust.
