Boris stands down as MP with immediate effect part 3

1000 replies

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 16:56

Tomorrow is the Commons vote on the Privileges Committee's findings that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over Downing Street parties during lockdown

The vote is a free vote rather than being whipped either way. Tories have been told that the vote will be a one-line whip, meaning they will not be obliged to participate.

Boris Johnson is believed to have advised his backers to not vote against it.

Michael Gove confirmed on live tv that he will abstain

Tobias Elwood has u-turned on abstaining after hearing stories from voters

Rishi Sunak, who knows

Would he have to vote No if he called it just to force the vote? Not entirely sure how these things work!

Yes he was duty bound to vote No

This made me chuckle

He was abstaining after coming out with all that bollocks? Pathetic. He's another one whose upcoming loss of seat is going to be amusing.

I know those guidelines because I was heavily involved in keeping our office safe during Covid and taking steps to reduce contact with others.

I would have known that having a celebration such as cake was not sensible, even though we may have had meetings before. Because we were trying to keep contact as short as possible and to have as much social distancing as possible.

I remember it too @cakeorwine doing those risk assessments, checking the fine detail to make sure all the guidance was met. If anyone had suggested social work gatherings at that time I would have thought they’d lost their mind.

Desmond Swayne is just contemptible.

I've always thought Joy Morrisey was a pretty repulsive specimen too.

StormShadow · 19/06/2023 22:13

118 Tories voted for the motion, in the end. That's a third of them.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 22:14

Swayne makes sense.

Blossomtoes · 19/06/2023 22:14

Rees Mogg and Nici failed to put their money where their gobs are.

She endorsed Liz Truss according to Wikipedia. That alone makes her judgement questionable.

mirages08 · 19/06/2023 22:16

I'm sorry for your loss, @peregrina

I sat through a zoom funeral for a loved one.

Someone who, unlike De Pfeffle Johnson, dedicated her entire life to others.

I watched her brother sit alone, sobbing.

I sat and cried, as my children tried to comfort me.

I will never forgive

I will never forget

And Bob Seely has his own anti lockdown agenda anyway. Hea really gone down a rabbit hole here. Why doesn't someone tell him to get back to the point?

I was going to say that he had a good point about Blair but then I reminded myself that Blair's alleged lies to Parliament were looked into and Blair was exonerated.

Blair has been responsible for more death and destruction than Johnson, but it's just not true to say that the Labour Party covered for Blair.

You see, we had celebrations involving wine and cake.

Over Teams.

With everyone in their own home. It was the only way we could have a leaving do for my line manager.

This. Anyone else remember their works Christmas party of December 2020? I remember it clearly - all of us on our sofas in our Christmas jumpers waving a glass of wine and a cracker at the teams screen on our laptops.

the 6 Tories voting NO

Karl McCartney
Adam Holloway
Heather Wheeler
Nick Fletcher

The 7 figure seems to include a teller then?

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 22:20

118 is more Tories voting yes than I thought. Couple of surprises on the list.

Daniel Kawczynski for a start. And Leadsome.

TomPinch · 19/06/2023 22:20

Anyone know why the DUP didn't vote?

DuncinToffee · 19/06/2023 22:20

225 Conservative MPs did not vote either way in the Privileges Committee vote, including Rishi Sunak and most of the Cabinet.

I was wondering the same thing. Quite a few of the SNP seem to have abstained as well.

You never know what people's constituents have been saying. Or constituency parties. For all the speculation about MPs getting deselected for voting yes, there's nothing to stop an association for punishing them because they didn't.
