What did you discover about your car?

Pinching this idea from a similar thread started by someone else on another subject.
Since DH and I went from 2 cars to 1 last year - I noticed when hoovering his car after a recent trip to the tip that there are airline style trays attached to the back of the front seats, there are also two storage areas underneath your feet in the back seats, the console at the front has two bigger separate compartments beneath the gear stick. In the ashtray were two pound coins (presumably for parking) Their is an arm rest in the centre of the back seat which when folded down has cup/can holders for drinks and sa slot for books or maps. In the boot there is a basic tool kit in a space above the wheel arch, on the other side there is a wheeled box clipped to the inner wall. Who knew? We were desperate for space when we went camping two years ago - and these extra areas of space would have been manna sent from heaven!! DH used to take his car to be valeted and he didn't know about these storage areas either. But it's not a new car and when DH bought it - he was left to browse the car on his own as the sales guy was busy!!
Anyone else found anything extra in their car??

I’d had my car over a year before I discovered it had a sunroof!

Ifailed · 17/06/2023 20:57

Didn't either of you bother to read the manual?

mathanxiety · 17/06/2023 21:03

Heated seats. Bliss.

Bluevelvetsofa · 17/06/2023 21:03

That I don’t like it very much.

Rainbow1901 · 17/06/2023 21:04

In my defence - it's an older Citroen Xsara - so no manual to read!! At least my car had Bluetooth and a manual that went with the car!! This predates even that lol!!

I lease a new car every year or two and never read a manual yet. Might check if theres a light on the dash but apart from that it lives in the glove box from the day i pick up the car till the day it goes back.

I discoverer my car winds all the windows down if you press and hold the unlock button on the fob. Ideal on a hot day going back to the car and you can release the heat so you arnt hit with a wall of it when you open a door.

My car has an airconditioned glovebox, which always really makes me laugh. WHAT FOR???

I've had 7 cars and I have never read the manual. Are we supposed to!?

Sgtmajormummy · 17/06/2023 21:16

We had a company car with full optionals.
About a month after getting it DH turns around to DS: “Stop kicking the back of my seat, it’s very annoying!”
DS 😟”I’m not doing anything!!”
The in-seat massager had been activated.

helpfulperson · 17/06/2023 21:22

I had the opposite with heated seats. I bought a new car and spent ages trying to work out how the heated seats worked, including Internet research until it final dawned on me that the car I had test driven with heated seats wasn't the one I had bought.

EvenmoreDisorganised · 17/06/2023 21:26

That the bluetooth takes about teo minutes to connect, which is really annoying as DD is always switching it to her phone so when I get in to go to work I get halfway down the road before I realise my phone isn't connected, also that you have to go through several menus on the console every time. DH's bluetooth is vastly superior despite being the same make of car and 5 years older.

Chocolate.

My central locking failed the other day. I locked the driver's door with the key then went round to the passenger side to do the same which was when I realised there's no keyhole on that side.

I've had it 5 years.

@beeskipa

Lipstick
Cold water
Definitely chocolate!

Who reads the manual?

The3rdWatermelon · 17/06/2023 21:32

I discovered a receipt in the glove box which showed that a previous owner had paid £45 to have special patterned paper applied to the clock in the dashboard 🤔

Ilikewinter · 17/06/2023 21:34

I discovered that the reason the first aid kit/bag doesnt move in the boot is because its stuck down with valcro!...... and this is the most fun car I've driven, makes me smile everytime I get in it 😁

Twentypastfour · 17/06/2023 21:34

The manual 😂

I just knew you were going to say a Citroen!! My DH has an old, Belingo (was given it as a workhorse by is sister) it was top of the range in it's day and it has storage compartments everywhere it even has overhead storage!

INeedAnotherName · 17/06/2023 21:40

Its not what I have discovered, its what I haven't,.

I have no idea on how to make the boot floor flat. My old Fords I pulled the bench up and the seat backs went into that space resulting in a flat floor. This one doesn't allow the bench to be moved...unless I'm missing a vital bit of information. Youtube and a general manual covering several years haven't helped 😥

uhtredsonofuhtred1 · 17/06/2023 21:40

When I was in a car crash a few months ago I discovered that my car automatically called the emergency services. All of a sudden I heard a male voice saying "hello, if there's anyone conscious please make a sound". I'm my dazed state I thought it was a voice from above 😅

Lisad1975 · 17/06/2023 21:42

Had my car nearly 2 years and found the DAB radio stations. Game changer!

feellikeanalien · 17/06/2023 21:44

A couple of months ago I discovered my car had an alarm. I was sitting in the house watching telly and wishing that the person whose car alarm was going off would hurry up and put it off. I looked out the window and realised it was mine!

I'd had it for about a year at that point.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 17/06/2023 21:49

I had a Toyota Yaris many years ago. Maybe 2004?
It was a great car, except the boot was never quiet big enough. I traded it in for a bigger car. As I was clearing it out, I discovered the feature that allowed the rear seats to be moved forward to make to boot bigger.......
I may have never mentioned this to anyone else!
