What did you discover about your car?

Pinching this idea from a similar thread started by someone else on another subject.
Since DH and I went from 2 cars to 1 last year - I noticed when hoovering his car after a recent trip to the tip that there are airline style trays attached to the back of the front seats, there are also two storage areas underneath your feet in the back seats, the console at the front has two bigger separate compartments beneath the gear stick. In the ashtray were two pound coins (presumably for parking) Their is an arm rest in the centre of the back seat which when folded down has cup/can holders for drinks and sa slot for books or maps. In the boot there is a basic tool kit in a space above the wheel arch, on the other side there is a wheeled box clipped to the inner wall. Who knew? We were desperate for space when we went camping two years ago - and these extra areas of space would have been manna sent from heaven!! DH used to take his car to be valeted and he didn't know about these storage areas either. But it's not a new car and when DH bought it - he was left to browse the car on his own as the sales guy was busy!!
Anyone else found anything extra in their car??

My car has an airconditioned glovebox, which always really makes me laugh. WHAT FOR???

Presumably so your gloves remain fresh and not smelly!

I used to live ours for keeping drinks cool

When I first got out car I thought something had broken as the windscreen wipers went intermittently (rain sensors) and I got in the car once and the mirrors folded and thought there was a fault, I accidentally touched the button to fold them

We'd had the car about three years when there was a talk on the radio about the irritating voice control. I told OH I told her to STFU but she never listened. What voice control said he

onefinemess · 18/06/2023 13:34

That the headlights "flickering" at night wasn't a fault with the car. They are "adaptive" and don't need to be dimmed when another car is passing you.

I was so annoyed that EVERY time a car came towards me, my headlights would do this weird "light dance" thing just before I pulled on the stalk to dim them.

That was an embarrassing chat at the dealer!

Previous car was a Rav4 - I’d had it quite a few Ulysses before discovering you could change the angle of the back seats.

Ah, the Rav 4, my brother has had them. What he has called "a mystery in every journey".

Toddlerteaplease · 18/06/2023 16:52

That the acceleration is crap!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/06/2023 16:55

I have read My manual. Am I the only one? Though it's not helpful as it covers other models and says 'if equipped' for somethings. Well that's what I'm reading it for. To find out if it is equipped!

No idea how Ulysses crept in there - it should be years!

I loved that Rav. Would still have it now if the fuel tank hadn’t started to leak and the prop shaft bolts were so rusted the garage couldn’t get them undone.

mamaduckbone · 18/06/2023 17:19

OP I knew when you were describing your car that it was a Xsara...we had one years ago and I loved all the little extra features, especially the cup holders in the back of the glove compartment door!

That it can park itself. Me and my OH had a right laugh on an industrial estate with big spaces, getting the car to parallel and reverse park. Nothing more freaky than watching the steering wheel turn when you aren't touching it.

It's the little things.

My car does too. Only tried it once. It freaked me out 😂

BigFloppa · 18/06/2023 17:21

The cup holder has a false bottom so you can put bottles in it.

Errolwasahero · 18/06/2023 18:33

That it is a ‘racer’ model and can go like stink, and the music can go Very loud 😎

FlibbertyGibbitt · 18/06/2023 19:35

Mine is keyless. Discovered last week (had it two years) if the battery goes you can get into the car with the mechanical key inside but also start it by holding the fob against the button to start it . Didn’t know that 🤷‍♀️

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/06/2023 20:08

That the bloody thing constantly has a tyre pressure warning light coming on, when there’s no need. Apparently a common fault with the Honda Jazz, and the garage can’t fix it. 😩

dontbethatperson · 18/06/2023 20:16

That it was an absolute bargain. The likes of which I'll never get again.

Curious as to how you bought the high performance model without realising it? You don’t buy an M3 thinking it’s a 320d, for example!

Utterlypeanuterly · 18/06/2023 20:51

I bought a used car through a dealer years ago. It had only one previous owner. I found some paperwork that showed the previous owner had the very same, uncommon for where I live, surname as me. Sadly I've never had a car expensive enough to have hidden extras.

Mine too! Always thought it was pointless as I usually just keep cars paperwork and the tyre wheel key thing in. (Can't think of the name)!

However I discovered it was brilliant when baby switched to cows milk and it kept it perfectly chilled!

DH's new lease car (skoda) has an umbrella in the front door.

I have a car that can be quite pedestrian in normal mode, but goes like stink in sport mode. It’s not the performance model (there is one that would be like the M series that gives another 60 bhp) but it’s quick enough that some components have to be uprated from the standard model.

Mind you, you could also buy the performance model and not realise because the branding is not as well known as M or AMG etc.

fetchacloth · 18/06/2023 23:08

I had my car a couple of years before I realised that I had front fog lamps.

BigcatLittlecat · 18/06/2023 23:21

I bought a new car from the dealers. When he was telling me about the car he said that the lights go on automatically at dusk! I thought this was amazing and said so! He replied that my old car had it to! I had only had it 4 years!

FloydPepper · 18/06/2023 23:32

All those stubbornly refusing to read the manual, what if your car has a great feature and you never find out about it?

it’s not impressive to refuse to read a manual…

My car has this too (except in the passenger door), it has skoda branding on it and makes me irrationally happy.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 19/06/2023 00:03

Had mine 11 years and only recently realised it had heated wing mirrors (DH told me)
