What did you discover about your car?

Pinching this idea from a similar thread started by someone else on another subject.
Since DH and I went from 2 cars to 1 last year - I noticed when hoovering his car after a recent trip to the tip that there are airline style trays attached to the back of the front seats, there are also two storage areas underneath your feet in the back seats, the console at the front has two bigger separate compartments beneath the gear stick. In the ashtray were two pound coins (presumably for parking) Their is an arm rest in the centre of the back seat which when folded down has cup/can holders for drinks and sa slot for books or maps. In the boot there is a basic tool kit in a space above the wheel arch, on the other side there is a wheeled box clipped to the inner wall. Who knew? We were desperate for space when we went camping two years ago - and these extra areas of space would have been manna sent from heaven!! DH used to take his car to be valeted and he didn't know about these storage areas either. But it's not a new car and when DH bought it - he was left to browse the car on his own as the sales guy was busy!!
Anyone else found anything extra in their car??

I have a car that can be quite pedestrian in normal mode, but goes like stink in sport mode.

What exactly do you think sport mode does?

Alexandra2001 · 19/06/2023 08:01

I ve had my Skoda for 7 years, last month only realised it had a usb port nr the radio where i could charge a phone, i d always previously used a cigarette lighter adaptor.... i'd always assumed it was a media port for plugging a music source into only.

Well, durr 🙄

My point was it’s not badged as anything other than a small family hatchback. We’ve had performance cars previously and this one is a bit of a stealth model.

Zippitydoodaa · 19/06/2023 09:35

Read the manual 😂🤣😂🤣
I'm 65 , and never read a manual all my driving life , which is almost 40yrs .

Explain to me how the sport button turns a car from pedestrian to rapid. What does the sport button actually do?

My car has an airconditioned glovebox, which always really makes me laugh. WHAT FOR???

For keeping your drinks and lunch cold 😊

Because even gloves have feelings😀

My Skoda has its umbrella hidden under the front of the passenger seat - but have had car 6 years!

I suspect you know exactly how these systems work, so I’m not going to bite.

If not, then Google it.

HTH.

On my Skoda, precisely nothing at all, 3 modes, they are all the same as far as i can tell but on some cars, it can stiffen the suspension, improve steering and alter the engines computer for more power & less fuel economy.

Ha just checked after reading this, i got one too!!!

SprinkleRainbow · 19/06/2023 10:42

All but one of my cars have taught me (not very well clearly) only test drive the exact car you'll have.
My current car is the worst car I've ever owned 🤣 and the oldest.

All those stubbornly refusing to read the manual, what if your car has a great feature and you never find out about it?

it’s not impressive to refuse to read a manual…

I'm not stubborn or trying to be impressive, I have ADHD, I'm autistic and I struggle with processing large amounts of information from paper. I drive a motability lease car and the salesman explained everyone in fine detail when I collected it. A lot of it I already knew but I didn't leave needing to read the manual for anything. He was very thorough.

(I also took someone with me to collect it so they could listen for me)

Cans of juice

My Skoda has a window scraper in the fuel cap flap. And great pockets in the boot! Definitely recommend Skoda, we have a superb and it's exactly that.

Shade17 · 19/06/2023 11:30

Yes, and they don’t suddenly make your car any faster, it’s just as slow as it is in non-sport mode.

It changes the torque delivery amongst over things, which is the bit I’m interested in.

That is very unlikely to be the case. The only thing the sport button does in relation to the engine is change the throttle map (with some exceptions out there). 99.9% of cars are not running switchable engine maps with the sport button.

SabrinaThwaite · 19/06/2023 13:46

OK, I’ll let you explain that to the manufacturer.

QueSyrahSyrah · 19/06/2023 13:51

My car has a bottle holder in each of the front doors big enough for our litre sized steel bottles. A game-changer in terms of not having bottles rolling round in the passenger footwells all the time. That and the heated windscreen are the features I like most!

BalanceMeHumours · 19/06/2023 13:54

I tell you what someone ELSE must have discovered in my old Golf. The £30 in coins I stashed in the coin box for parking mergencies etc.

I forgot to take it out before I dropped it off for sale. Doh!

SabrinaThwaite · 19/06/2023 13:59

SabrinaThwaite · 19/06/2023 13:46

Actually, scrub that, although I am right in that the torque is delivered differently in sport mode but it is through throttle and boost settings.

shatteredL · 19/06/2023 14:12

Can anyone who has a Ford focus let me know about any surprises I may have missed? 66 plate! Or tell me how the fuck you connect to Apple car play? 🤣

How very odd. You needed it explaining what a sport button did earlier in this thread and then here you are posting what it does?

The only thing the sport button does in relation to the engine is change the throttle map (with some exceptions out there). 99.9% of cars are not running switchable engine maps with the sport button.

So you've either suddenly become very educated on the functionality of the mode or you were just trying to belittle the previous poster to try and make yourself look smart.
My money is on the latter.

INeedAnotherName · 19/06/2023 14:25

I'm jealous of those who have hidden umbrellas Shock

I didn't have a manual as mine is apparently online only or i have to buy a generic paper one from ebay. Both versions cover multiple specs so have no idea if it covers my actual car. I'm not that bored yet where I want to read about specs for cars I don't own.
