What has the handyman done with my nightdress?!

I can't find my nightie anywhere! Had a handyman round this morning just to address a couple of patches of damp, one of them being in my bedroom, on the wall close to the en suite.

I hang my nightie and dressing gown on the back of the en suite door every morning, and on the other side of the door I have an old evening dress that belonged to my dm.

I was rushing out this morning and didn't think about moving the clothes off the door. Came back earlier to find he's moved my dressing gown and my dm's dress over to the hooks on the bedroom door. But there's no sign of my nightie.

Im not suggesting for a minute anything dodgy has gone on but - where is it?! Did I, without thinking, put it somewhere? If so, I still can't find it!

I'm reminded of Jesse from The Fast Show who emerges from his shed clad in overalls tied up with baler twine to announce
'This week I shall be mostly wearing... a negligee'.

Sadly the worst is often likely the case.

Had a neighbour in plastering last week in the front bedroom, he was caught creeping round the back bedroom. I had 2 days notice to empty the room so shoved all my clothes into the attic bedroom. I left out enough work clothes and underwear for the rest of the week in the back bedroom where I was sleeping while the work was done. Realised on Friday that my last pair of underwear was missing. He's been sending me creepy messages on my phone.

When I've spoken to other neighbours, turns out he's notorious and the single women on the street all have a story about him, including dick pictures and middle of the night phone harassment. If I'd have known I'd have never let him in the house.

We laugh here about the nighty, but ultimately it really isn't funny and it happens more than we like to admit.

Love this post. Your mother’s dress is very cute and elegant at the same time. Your husband’s jacket to give you comfort. Displaying these is lovely. You must be a great person.

Re your nightgown, how strange! I have no ideas but if the handyman did take it on purpose he’s not going to admit it. Hopefully it accidentally got bundled up in a drop cloth he used while working? Far fetched but the whole thing is bizarre. If he took it he’d have to know you’d notice it gone.

Was the nightgown under the dressing gown on the hook? If he used a black drop cloth to protect your floor, could it be that while he was moving the dressing gown the nightgown slipped to the floor and being black blended in with the black drop cloth and so got gathered up with it?

I’m a creature of habit too and usually know that my stuff in in one of 2 places and worn clothes are either on the chair or hung up/away if they’re not being washed. Just prior to reading this I lost my shorts that I was about to put on. I’d had them in my hand but then grabbed a load of washing for the machine, shoving the shorts in too, by mistake . If you’re certain you haven’t absentmindedly done something similar (not saying you’re absent minded!) then I’d say he’s swiped them. It really does happen unfortunately!
