Anyone local know what’s going on?

Looks like a huge response.

My friend’s daughter lives at the end of the road where this horrific atrocity happened.Luckily at home with her family because she graduates in July .Fair to say the students are distraught and they definitely not in party mood.
Two families have had their world completely destroyed by this maniac.

Beezknees · 13/06/2023 16:44

All so sad. I'm local-ish but out in the suburbs rather than the city centre.

Christ. Ilkeston Road always felt pretty dodgy/rough to me and I'd always choose to walk down Derby Road instead to get home but bloody hell.. too close to home. So many memories of being at Nottingham Uni. So many uni students live in that area. Awful.

I really loathe comments of “I know someone who knows someone who lives there”. It doesn’t mean anything.

I’m within 5 minutes drive of one of the locations and the other is my old road. It means nothing. It’s not about me or the other countless people that live there. It’s about the victims.

turnthetoiletpaperroundproperly · 13/06/2023 16:58

Press Conference at 5.30 ..we may get a better insight then,

Oh god, me too! It's like some kind of weird second-hand fame or something!
That comment a few pages back that says "my son goes to Notts uni but he's in Tenerife at the moment"
I mean, really??? It's so fucking pointless and insensitive!

Actually, it does mean something. I live literally around the corner from where the two students were murdered and have walked home from nightclubs that way in the early hours of the morning many times. It could have been me. It could have been my next-door neighbour, also a student at UoN, who came home about 2.30 am this morning, as he regularly does after boxing practice. It could have also been my other next-door neighbour, who regularly pops out to smoke around a different corner in the early hours of the morning.

When it happens on your doorstep, to people like you and the people you know, it hits rather differently. I am extremely distressed and rather frightened. This is going to change the way I live and how I feel about my neighbourhood.

I hate comments dismissing people’s comments as invalid. It does mean something. My son is a student there. It resonates more.

@ODFODeary yeah, maybe, but it would be far better to take them
out of circulation BEFORE they kill people.

if I hear 'lessons will be learnt' I shall scream!! They've had plenty of situations to learn from already.

Yes, because that was such a great success when it was happening in Northern Ireland ...

But that's different and completely understandable because you live there and it affects you directly. It's normal to think "that could have been me".

The comments from people-who-know-someone-who-knows-someone are just tedious.

Actually I am not far from you myself, I hope you are okay 💐

Thank you @McSilkson ..my post wasn’t in the context about me! If it was I would also have mentioned that my daughter was a student there a few years ago and lived in Lenton ….but my post was in the context of the student ball being cancelled which was mentioned up thread !!
@herealone i actually think you are being very disrespectful towards the victims by attempting to derail the thread 🤷‍♀️

Oh shut up

pinkhousesarebest · 13/06/2023 17:20

M’y heart breaks for those kids walking home from a night out. How utterly unspeakable.

RiffRaffBananas · 13/06/2023 17:22

Those poor kids and my heart bleeds for the families. How unutterably distressing.

Oh but did I quote you? No. I don’t care if someone’s friends daughter lives on some street. It’s got nothing to do with this. That’s my point. That poster probably has never been to Nottingham.

To be fair he probably has friends there, there's a lot of what ifs and associated relief and guilt. It's an anonymous message board, if people want to seek support here then I don't get why people get so riled up about it.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/06/2023 17:23

I don't think it's changed the way I feel about Lenton at all. The person is in custody. I don't think I'll feel any less sage walking home tonight, than I did walking to work at 6.40 this morning.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 13/06/2023 17:24

Shocking,my DS1 is in his 2nd year at Nottingham Uni,thankfully he is safely home for the Summer, heartfelt sympathy for the poor families of those killed.

Do phone the police helpline, I'm sure you'll be invaluable to their enquiries.

Do you even live there?

Terrorism doesn’t equal Muslim. It equals someone that has had their mind bent by their own interpretation of an ideology

Very well said, Loopylalaloo
