Anyone local know what’s going on?

Looks like a huge response.

I feel that this thread should probably be closed down, I’m saddened that it’s become a point scoring post. As more details emerge about the victims, two promising students with their life’s ahead and a hard working gentleman, the whole incident gets more and more heartbreaking. Barnaby, Grace and Ian, you did not deserve this.

Xrays · 14/06/2023 19:37

My daughter is a student at the university and we are just so heartbroken by the events and just cannot begin to imagine how the families of those involved are feeling. I just feel so sad for everyone. So senseless.

Bubblyb00b · 14/06/2023 19:53

I cant express how sad I am. RIP Grace, Barnaby and Ian.

You have said exactly what I was thinking and going to say ! Many posters on this thread have been massively insensitive and as you say point scoring!
As a mother I cannot imagine the horror that the parents are going through and the family of the guy whose van was hijacked and murdered ! They all had a lot to offer this world . Shall not shame the posters by tagging them but you know who you are !

Wrong place, wrong time sadly. Their dads were so brave speaking at the vigil.

Efacsen · 15/06/2023 14:19

Nottingham police given more time to question suspect

dorriss · 15/06/2023 18:06

yes of course all mothers and fathers will feel this especially but all normal people feel huge sadness about this. However, the ordinary not young or beautiful or talented caretaker seems to have been less mourned on the news.He was a mensch.good man

Interesting how quiet this thread has gone

Toddlerteaplease · 15/06/2023 23:54

I live literally round the corner from the scene and was very surprised how much business as usual it is in Lenton. You'd honestly think nothing has happened. Apart from some flowers. The vigil in the Market square was well attended.

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 01:10

There was police and TV cameras in the market square from 9 o'clock yesterday morning

InTodaysNews · 16/06/2023 06:55

@lieselotte Joanne Dennehy?

Ultimately the motivation of the attacker is unknown but he was a Nottingham university graduate and one line of enquiry is his link to the university. For understandable reasons the police (and country) assumed initially this was a terrorist attack and our national response was in accord with this. Knife crime is a horrible thing but is an incredibly difficult thing to suppress. There was a knife angel statue in Coventry which was a poignant reminder of how unfortunately frequent such attacked are and the devastating results.

Hopefully because certain pps have crawled away with shame!
The parents and family of all the victims have shown the most amazing composure and bravado whist going through this nightmare .Am guessing the horror hasn’t set in ..as a Mum of three students I cannot comprehend.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/06/2023 07:55

One thing that puzzled me, is how he got from Lenton to Mapperly park?

I wonder if he walked? It’s around an hour, just under so would that fit with the timings?

Peridot1 · 17/06/2023 09:47

I can’t get the families out of my mind. Seeing someone I knew vaguely up on that podium at the vigil and being so strong was humbling. And heartbreaking.

I think the fact the attacker had also been at the university is so sad really. He came here as an immigrant but wasn’t alone - he had a close supportive family. Went to university. Had a potential good future.

It is not anywhere near an hour. You could get from Ilkeston road in Lenton to Magdala in Mapperley Park on foot in about 10-15 minutes.

Beezknees · 17/06/2023 11:32

He probably walked there. He tried to enter a hostel at some point between the murders so it sounds like he was wandering around for a bit.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/06/2023 14:02

Thats what I thought, there is no direct transport route to Mapperly from Lenton, and not many buses at that time.

Crummles · 17/06/2023 14:51

Indeed @Hotandverybothered

I have been into the city centre today. The atmosphere was intensely solemn. Walking up to the council house on old market square I was greeted first by the scent of the many many floral tributes placed on the steps with such love and care. There is a multitude of notes and cards with beautiful heartfelt messages, from people who both did and didn't know the victims. Balloons of different sizes bobbed in the breeze as I exchanged a few words with people here and there. I waited patiently with many others to sign the book of condolences which will eventually be taken away to the Nottingham archives and sealed. It was an incredibly moving experience. I will never forget their names. RIP Barnaby, Grace and Ian 💐

Whatalife88 · 17/06/2023 16:29

How long is the book staying do we know? I'm from Nottingham and haven't managed to get into town yet. I feel so sad. This happened less than 5 mins away from me. It's shocking. 3 amazing people taken just like that.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 17/06/2023 17:14

I think the book is open until Friday.

Whatalife88 · 17/06/2023 19:23
