Anyone local know what’s going on?

Looks like a huge response.

@ODFODeary yeah, maybe, but it would be far better to take them
out of circulation BEFORE they kill people.

if I hear 'lessons will be learnt' I shall scream!! They've had plenty of situations to learn from already.

How do you plan on doing that?

Hehehejeiej · 13/06/2023 13:08

I know some details about this which I’m not going to share but this is no place for a laughing face @RudsyFarmer

ODFODeary · 13/06/2023 13:19

@ThursdayFreedom , it could have been part of a bigger picture though, I'm sure they know what they are doing

No need for the personal attack.

It's clearly more than just a multiple stabbing. It covers quite a big city centre area. The entire tram network is closed down all the way from Beeston through to Hucknall. You can't even do the south of the city into the hospital stretch. Loads of roads still cordoned off. Helicopters overhead still when DS finally made his way back out of the city after his A level exam at 11ish.

We live out on the outskirts and have just had three helicopters overhead.

Thoughts with everyone affected, I’m in Nottingham and was in town on Saturday and was just by The Theatre Royal out for dinner. I love my adopted home city and that poor woman who also witnessed the van ramming those people by the theatre I hope she gets some support. My friends DS is a police officer and has been called in for overtime. It’s a big area to cover.

EdithWeston · 13/06/2023 13:42

There has just been a police raid on an address at Ilkeston Road (nfd - but it's the area where two bodies were found on the street). No information released about the raid, it's simply that press in the area saw police going in (so reported by BBC and others)

So I expect quite a lot of police activity - inc use of helicopters - will be pretty apparent today and over the coming days

I didn’t decide it was Russia. I said, or at least was thinking, that when you provoke a country though supplying arms you heighten the risk of a terrorist attack. Currently we are very much provoking Russia no?

No. Unless you’re advocating a policy of appeasement. Maybe you’d like something based on the Munich Accord? 🙄

user746016 · 13/06/2023 13:45

There are unfortunately increasing numbers of stabbings around here. DSs 15 YO friend was stabbed for bumping into someone a couple of weeks ago and it didn't even make the news.

lovescats3 · 13/06/2023 13:45

Prayers for all those involved and their families so sad

InTodaysNews · 13/06/2023 13:49

It will all come out in the wash eventually I suppose.
It's no good speculating until then.

Tram network was also buggered up by the derailment and electric post collapsing last night (over the Basford side of town I think) - and it doesn't take much to bugger up the trams around here (like the usual cars getting stuck on the tracks). That, combined with the city centre being blocked off would mean that none of the trams or crews will be in the right spot to even run a partial service - I don't think there's even any depots our side of the blockades so they couldn't even try running in and out of Beeston/QMC etc.

This doesn't feel terrorist to me - this feels gang/drug or mental health related and possibly exacerbated by alcohol/a bad night out. We're also right near the army barracks and there's not been anything like activity from the bomb disposal vans you might expect to be out and about - the helicopters are kind of inevitable with the media interest and copper chopper being out and about.

I also know someone involved this morning in law enforcement. Not a subject for idle chat.

JustGeorgie · 13/06/2023 13:59

@Loopylalalou so why are you here indulging in 'idle chat'?

SD25 · 13/06/2023 12:04

please... almost certainly just a lone nutter. horrendous enough but don't need to imagine it even worse than it is.

Not a lone nutter. Some of the reports are saying that the van incident is a different perpetrator to the stabbing.

I have no idea! That’s literally why this thread is full of people speculating 🤣

How utterly crass and inappropriate @RudsyFarmer

stayflufft · 13/06/2023 14:10

My FIL sold the van to the person who has been arrested. Journos outside his garage right now.

fishonabicycle · 13/06/2023 14:11

Son has cordons all around his house - he lives in Radford. Lots of varying information still.

stayflufft · 13/06/2023 14:13

Hope your son is ok @fishonabicycle - can’t be easy sitting tight inside a police cordon.
