Anyone local know what’s going on?

Looks like a huge response.

@herealone if @Lifeomars feels unsettled then that's how she feels and she may want to talk about it on here. If this happened on my doorstep, I would be anxious too.

Clearly the implication is that the person involved might be someone who has arrived in this country other than through legal channels

??

Implication from whom?

I don't see anything in the police statements that tends towards any particular theory (they may have a working theory by now, but nothing's been let slip)

And I've just listened to councillors on the local news, and they didn't mention any theories either. And I don't quite see who else would know.

AllPlayedOut · 13/06/2023 18:55

I may be wrong but as far as I am aware, there has been no mention of whether the suspect is from the U.K. or otherwise

Correct. We only know that he's a 31 year old man. It's a little early to jump to conclusions.

StarsInTheSkies · 13/06/2023 18:56

Of course people who feel it could have been them as they have a connection to the area or DC at university will want to talk about how they have been unsettled and upset. Surely this is a place where people might be allowed to do that without being called names and dismissed. Of course the families come first but is everyone else supposed to remain neutral about it all and not seek support?

Overthinkingnotdrinking · 13/06/2023 18:53

@JustGeorgie you asked me what I would do to make the country safer. I answers. You miss my first point, long prison sentences for people who commit violence. I will eat my hat if this is the first time the man has been violent…

Long prison sentences for violent offenders does already exist! Courts can only use the sentencing guidelines not make it up as they go

That's all I have heard too. There has been speculation on social media that has no foundation. There was also another witness description of his race but I'm sure the police will release details in their own time.

It's all over Twitter - GB News source - not verified by the police

Maybe the comments have been deleted now but that's what I was replying to

But the fact that no official statements have been made doesn't mean anything one way or another, of course they won't be speculating

Time will tell

Overthinkingnotdrinking · 13/06/2023 19:04

@JustGeorgie yes the U.K. courts are famous for giving violent offenders long sentences. But what are your plans to make people safer?

Do people actually still read GBNews? Smh!

I thought GB news was a TV channel, I'm sure it was mentioned in the Phillip Schofield threads

sammyjoanne · 13/06/2023 19:17

I was in the city centre this morning. I had planned to take DD2 to the orthdentist when the radio said the trams were not in operation due to an incident. Initially I thought it as down to one of the trams derailing which it did do yesterday due to lightnight hitting the overhead lines. The traffic was not too too bad but I did see the police had cordoned off upper parliament street, so im still thinking its the trams. It was not until much later on we learned what happened and its so so sad. 2 students and a man; bless them and their families

I was assuming people were reading the website.

This thread has descended into ghoulish speculation and racist prejudice. Pretty much GBN fodder.

Absolute garbage.

People need to know what happened and whether there is a continuing threat. Sadly, such events are not without precedent, and we all know the pattern.

Still needs to be confirmed though - not that I'd be too reliant on whatever whitewashed version of events finally comes out.

Redebs · 13/06/2023 19:35

How about respecting the victims, killed, injured and traumatised instead of competitive speculation and prejudice?

Tipintorecession · 13/06/2023 09:22

Looks very concerning, who are all the men in maroon and black gear?

I haven't looked at the entire chain, however. To answer your question @Tipintorecession - They are firefighters specially trained for deployment within a suspected or confirmed Mass Casualty Rescue (MCR) and Marauding Terrorist Attack (MTA). These firefighters in maroon, ambulances will be in green will have their and be in the same but they will be staff from their Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) and Specialist Operation Response Team (SORT) which again like Fire are specialist staff trained to work in the danger zone where non-trained staff can't go due to the increased risk. You'll see here their training (Click here) I hope this helps and sorry if it has already been discussed

There is only ever respect for the perpetrators and their lives. Victims are collateral damage in a society that favours criminals over citizens who live their lives peacefully. People earlier saying university students shouldn’t be called peoples children. Despicable.

Is it not drugs related?

Perhaps

But not sure that's relevant here. As I said, maybe I've missed an update..
