Two other candidates should be selected by the Tory party to take ghe place of Boris and Nadine. The last thing this country needs is two by-elections being called.

That's not how it works and there will be 3 by-elections, Margaret Ferrier's seat as well

It's just going to cause more instability. We should be concentrating on fixing things rather than wasting time having another by election.

At this disgraceful stage, the more by-elections the better. I don't remember anyone I know feeling that the by-elections called in the last 18 months caused any sense of instability. Quite the opposite, actually!

@Emotionalstorm your position re the Tories is entirely motivated by self interest. Perhaps you should be open about that.

In order to solve our country's problems we need a government that can pass bills. With every by election we are weakening our government and heading towards a standstill.

Why have a Government at all?

I think the Government still have a majority though.

PurposefulBear · 09/06/2023 22:35

Havent RTFT but surely the obvious explanation for all this is that Boris and Dorries had an affair??

EyelessArseFace · 09/06/2023 22:36

Something I've just remembered is that the constituency boundaries round here have been re-jigged to take effect at the next election. So whoever steps into Nadine's shoes now is going to find themselves in a right pickle come the next general election.

One of the safest Tory seats in the country is safe no longer. Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

cakeorwine · 09/06/2023 22:36

The Privileges Committee will meet on Monday to conclude its inquiry into
whether Boris Johnson misled MPs and plans to “publish its report promptly”
following the former prime minister’s resignation from the Commons, a spokesman
said.

The Tories have had 13 years to solve this country's problems with a full house of MPs.

Those were the "other Tories". We need to give the current Tories a chance to fix the mistakes of the Tories.

@Emotionalstorm would you join me in condeming those MPs who have turned up to the House of Commons less than a handful of times in the last year and who have barely voted at all?
Surely they are weakening the government and causing it to head to a standstill?

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 09/06/2023 22:40

They're going to publish the report. Good!

Fab, since Labour are miles ahead in the polls we can just let them pick their preferred options. Saves disunity and faff.

Eyesopenwideawake · 09/06/2023 22:41

Brexit is a done deal and most normal working people fully support it.

Really? Can you name one?

Sunak warned MORE to follow Boris to exit door sparking Tory civil war | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

The former Prime Minister issued a shock statement just hours after his close ally Nadine Dorries announced she too was quitting Parliament in what now appears to be a coordinated move to force two damaging by-elections on Mr Sunak’s floundering government.
There is now speculation that others may follow in the coming days forcing Mr Sunak to fight for his political life on a number of fronts.

Sunak warned MORE to follow Boris to exit door sparking Tory civil war

Boris Johnson has resigned as an MP in dramatic fashion over what he and his supporters claim is a witch hunt against him.

I think my constituency is a safe conservative seat too.
I really can't see it going yellow or red this time around

The Conservatives have done a lot of gerrymandering with the constituencies to try and hold onto power, but if we vote tactically. We can beat them.

He's lying again.

If course he is.

I can't imagine who would put any faith in his words these days.

You'd have to be bonkers.

It might be worth at least educating yourself on the very basics of how our democracy works?

Dramatic but, you know, it's all a bit squalid. We need a general election.

We do.

It's time we as a country stopped being held hostage by Tory party chaos.

LarkLane · 09/06/2023 22:50

Apparently, it's all that pesky Harriet Harman's fault.

Yeah big meanie. Calling Boris a liar for, well, lying Grin

Barbie222 · 09/06/2023 22:51

Most people who actually work for a living supported Brexit. Most people who make their money off of the backs of others supported Remain.

You've been proved wrong by stats above.

Most people now think Brexit was a mistake.

I think a majority of parties will be calling to rejoin the single market within five years. It will hopefully just be an awkward squirmy memory one day.

LakieLady · 09/06/2023 22:52

pointythings · 09/06/2023 21:26

@Florenz Boris's seat is definitely vulnerable. Dorries' not so much, which says worrying things about the people of Mid Bedfordshire. I mean, she's a bloody useless MP, constantly goes on about how she understands the NHS because she used to be a nurse (for about 5 minutes, she couldn't hack it) and my God does she write shit books!

I think the LDs came second in Mid-Beds. Maybe the two parties could have a pact so LDs don't stand in Uxbridge and Labour don't stand in Mid-Beds, that way the Tories might lose both.

There’s only one way out of a mess like this: a General Election.
