From the Express

Sunak warned MORE to follow Boris to exit door sparking Tory civil war | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

The former Prime Minister issued a shock statement just hours after his close ally Nadine Dorries announced she too was quitting Parliament in what now appears to be a coordinated move to force two damaging by-elections on Mr Sunak’s floundering government.
There is now speculation that others may follow in the coming days forcing Mr Sunak to fight for his political life on a number of fronts.

In reality I doubt that many MPs are desperate to risk their jobs in support of Johnson.

lljkk · 09/06/2023 22:54

And Sue Gray. All her bad, too.

Anyone who listened to the Privileges committee interviewing BJ will recall him repeatedly saying "Sue Gray! Sue Gray!" and the committee members in turn saying "We haven't taken evidence from Sue Gray nor is her report part of our evidence review. But we would like you ask you about..."

BJ: "Sue Gray! Sue Gray!"
HH: (exasperated) "We don't have much time so can you stop digressing & please answer the actual question we asked you rather than keep saying name of someone whose report is not part of our evidence summary?"

Poor wee BJ. Can't handle being held to account.

Apparently, it's all that pesky Harriet Harman's fault.

His whole statement is just "WAH, WAH,WAH" like a whiny baby.

Johnson's resignation letter was the embodiment of everything his headmaster wrote about him whilst he was at school.

"[He] sometimes seems affronted when criticised for what amounts to a gross failure of responsibility (and surprised at the same time that he was not appointed Captain of the school for the next half).

I think he honestly believes that it is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception, one who should be free of the network of obligation that binds everyone else."

The man's a wrong 'un. Always was.

Havent RTFT but surely the obvious explanation for all this is that Boris and Dorries had an affair??

Maybe this whole thread should be in Relationships.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 09/06/2023 22:56

Is it going to come out in the report that Johnson and Dorries followed the same isolation rules as Matt Hancock and Gina Coladangelo?

And she is his godmother’s cousin. What is the world coming to if you can’t even rely on establishment connections when you are in a pickle…

I always get the impression that that relationship is very one sided.

LarkLane · 09/06/2023 23:21

Dorries didn't get a peerage?
(No doubt it will be that pesky Rishi Sunak's fault)

He wasn't worse than Thatcher or truss

DowningStreetParty · 09/06/2023 23:30

I’m just pissed off that Boris is swanning around somewhere in Africa apparently tonight and therefore not available for interviews so his ludicrous unevidenced letter slating everyone around him is getting so much airtime.

DowningStreetParty · 09/06/2023 23:37

And I am disgusted that Johnson can give 45 of his cronies peerages and Sunak would sign that off. The PMs office have said he didn’t change the nominations list and Sunak just rubber stamped it.
Johnson is a shameful chapter in our political history, he is still being investigated for breaking laws he made himself and potentially lying about it, it’s outrageous he should be able to give out favours like that to get his mates in the Lords where they will be able to influence future Parliamentary politics.

Kiwano · 09/06/2023 23:50

What on earth is the point of his heated denials that he lied to the House of Commons? We all know that he lied to them countless times, the evidence is there in all there recordings. Just like he lied endlessly to the electorate. Does he somehow think that yet another lie will cancel out the previous ones?

Kiwano · 09/06/2023 23:50

*in all the recordings

KnitMePurlMe · 09/06/2023 23:53

@MarthaHansonKGB I loathed Thatcher with every ounce of my being but Johnson was still worse. Thatcher at the very least had principles - she genuinely believed what she was doing was best for the country (proved to be totally wrong but 🤷‍♀️).

Johnson has no principles and gives not one tiny fuck about any of it except himself - all his Brexit cronies and voters delude themselves into thinking Johnson was a Leave supporter when actually he was an ardent remainer - but one thing he can spot is a bandwagon and that’s what he did.

He was a catastrophically bad PM and he’s a despicable human being. I wish him nothing but ill as he brought on us 🤬.

I guess the most obvious candidates for resigning are the ones who got knighthoods from him, who would certainly be no loss. It would be lovely to think that Braverman would resign, too, but she's way too ambitious to do that.

Kiwano · 09/06/2023 23:56

I think Johnson still beats Truss in the Worst PM league table. Yes, she was catastrophic, but at least the damage she did was confined to a mercifully short period. Not only did Johnson trash the economy via Brexit, he also has blood on his hands as a result of his massive mishandling of Covid.

Kiwano · 10/06/2023 00:01

FineganFois · 09/06/2023 21:35

@jojo1067

Spot on. Anyone would think there was a vindictive campaign against him. His opponents have had their pound of flesh, when he resigned as PM. Yes, ok, he has lied, and he's no saint, but do the population of the UK want their representatives to be choir boys (and girls)?
They are trying their best to ensure he never comes back into politics, but if I was in Boris' shoes I wouldn't want to. After steering this sinking ship through Covid, he is toppled. (Did everyone follow the 2 metre rule? My former NDN had monthly parties all through the Lockdowns, and the police never turned up at her door)

Do you seriously believe that the only alternative to a habitual liar and wholly corrupt PM is a choirboy? Can't we just have a reasonably honest and non-corrupt one?

The reason this ship is sinking is Brexit, for which Johnson has to bear major responsibility. And he didn't so much as steer us through Covid as give us some sort of bumper car ride, crashing into avoidable crises and avoidable disasters as we worked through it.

His fans don't care that he lied.

He only had a piece of cake and got brexit done Confused

Crikeyalmighty · 10/06/2023 00:18

I find that most of the MPs jumping to his defence are a lot of the newer MPs who come over as a bit desparate to keep their pretty cushy numbers, which are totally out of sync relative to their ability and experience . All like poor candidates on The Apprentice.

We arent exactly talking great business experience or strong intellectual minds- and personally I think that matters when you are voting on important things and meant to be advising constituents.

Labour don't get a free pass on this either- the quality is severely lacking in Politics generally.

medianewbie · 10/06/2023 00:23

BelleHathor · 09/06/2023 20:43

He's playing chess. Resign now, Tories defeated next year by Labour who due to the upcoming recession won't be able to do much to improve people's lives. Boris chills for a couple of years away from the upcoming mess. Rakes in money from private events, then rides back in to rescue the Tories. Despite the buffoon reputation, he is extremely calculated and Machiavellian.

Yes. This. 100% This.

PurposefulBear · 09/06/2023 22:35

Sadly, I'm afraid this is the least likely explanation. Johnson resigned before he was suspended and had to face a by-election.

Dorries continuing her totally devoted to ... act and in a fit of pique at being left out of the honours list in order to avoid a by-election decides 'I'll give 'em by-election'.

Sigh.

medianewbie · 10/06/2023 00:23

Yes. This. 100% This.

I’m sure that’s his plan, but maybe by then the penny will have dropped with the tories that the electorate can’t stand him - hardly a vote winner.

verdantverdure · 09/06/2023 22:55

Oh I don't know. He was the PM who destroyed the Tory Party. It could only have been done from within.

So you have to give him credit for that.🤣🤣🤣
