The police say Boris Johnson broke the law, Boris Johnson paid fines for doing it. Tory MPs got rid of him because of it.

Anyone still going "but dancing nurses though" is a bit detached from reality IMO.

They got rid of him because of Pinchergate, they didn't get a chance to vote on Partygate (yet?) because he ran away.

Rest of you post stands Smile

"Are you trying to derail the thread? Tic tok nurses have nowt to do with the topic in hand."

Yes she is. And no they don't.

I didn't bring them up, i was responding to others who were excusing their disrespectful clips as 'black humour' and it's ok to prance about filming clips in hospital where people's loved ones were dying cos it 'wasn't illegal'. Not sure how those comments aren't a derail but mine are 🤔. Usual double standards on these threads.

itsgettingweird · 12/06/2023 19:43

He was partaking in an unlawful gathering at work that was not reasonably necessary for work purposes. Even Johnson has accepted that and paid the fine. God only knows why you won't

Yes. And the word gathering is the important one.

The laws or guidance never mentioned party. They said gathering.

He had a gathering that was found to contravene the laws about being reasonably necessary for work.

He got a FPN.

He could have disputed it if he didn't believe it was correct.

What's Stanley Johnson done for the United Kingdom to deserve a peerage?

He gets a glowing reference here (2005) - but that's the Guardian for you;

The EU Habitats directive is the great and lasting endeavour of the environmentalist Stanley Johnson...
he was an heroic defender of the environment... he conceived, drafted, battled for and then shepherded through the legislation, in the face of fierce opposition by European industry...
awarded the coveted Greenpeace prize for outstanding services to the environment.

Crikeyalmighty · 12/06/2023 19:51

@Janiie I personally didn't think the Tic Tok stuff was ok either- but they were not running the country nor defining legislation- so it's not really the point. We hold the PM (or should do) to much higher standards. He has to be squeaky clean on such things.

Merrymouse · 12/06/2023 19:53

I am sure the hospital where the nurses were employed has a complaints procedure if anyone wishes to pursue the matter.

Rishi Sunak also received a fixed penalty notice, so if all Johnson had done was attend a gathering that was outside the rules, it is likely that he would still be PM.

Johnson is no longer PM, and then resigned, because he lost the trust of his fellow Conservative MPs, they got fed up with being rolled out to defend the latest scandal, and he didn’t believe he could win a recall by election.

Well known Lefty and ex Editor in chief of the Telegraph, Max Hastings

He doesn't sound particularly right-wing either;

Political views (Wikipedia)
Hastings has at different times voted for all three major British political parties. He announced his support for the Conservative Party at the 2010 general election, having previously voted for the Labour Party at the 1997 and 2001 general elections. He said that "four terms are too many for any government" and described Gordon Brown as "wholly psychologically unfit to be Prime Minister. At elections since he has voted for the Liberal Democrats.

Bojo never needed ICU

So, the nurse who looked after him was lying?

The 35-year-old – who has worked as an intensive care nurse for 10 years, five of those as a sister – highlighted just how ill Johnson was, saying: “We take it very seriously who comes into intensive care, these patients who come into us it’s a very scary thing for them so we don’t take it lightly. And he absolutely needed to be there.”

You do not hire DJs for a quick office meeting

They hired DJs? That seems a bit unlikely - do you have a link?

if they are sat there in a garden with the bottles on the table, people sat on swings, wife there too- that was a social event.

People sat on swings? Are you mixing up events?

It wasn't a necessary work meeting etc and if so should have been indoors

Quite clearly safer outdoors.

@ derxa, have any of those nurses lied to Parliament about what they were doing? If not, it's totally irrelevant.

You didn't tell the posters before derxa that their NHS anecdotes were irrelevant.

Personally, I would be surprised and disappointed, if hospital management didn't look back at some of these photographs and wonder what improvements could be made with regards to staff (and patient) safety:

@Clavinova is there any evidence that those in Downing Street particularly those in positions of responsibility and mangement have looked back at their and others behaviour and worked out what improvements could be made?

It would appear there is;
as the House will know, I have already taken significant steps to change the way things work in No 10.

I wasn't criticising the free food (for NHS workers) - but the lack of social distancing. You don't think improvements could be made? The Number 10 butler is quite clearly wearing a mask - I can't see a problem there.

cakeorwine · 12/06/2023 21:00

I've always wondered what peer pressure there was on Downing Street employees. There were some who refused to go to the parties. To wine Fridays.

But there were those who went. I wonder if it crossed their minds that this might not be appropriate and the shit would hit the fan if people found out - especially given the fact they were designing the rules.

EXCLUSIVE: Downing Street held yet MORE parties throughout the Covid pandemic with events taking place every Friday as Prime Minister Boris Johnson encouraged staff to "let off steam" even though indoor socialising was strictly banned

Given that Boris has resigned as an MP because he lied in parliament, why should we believe anything he has said?

Stop it. We have been told by those who know that there were no parties in Downing Street. There were though soggy M+S sandwiches which people ate for lunch on their own like workers up and down the country.

Also did you know Boris knows what to use a woman for.

Notonthestairs · 12/06/2023 21:07

Johnson joked about being at 'the most unsocially distanced party in the UK.' November 2020.

If it wasn't on a tik tok video, then it was not cringeworthy and we should not condemn it.

If Johnson came in soaked and told you it was raining outside.

Would you a) believe him b) go and check?

I would be fascinated to see the work guidance issued for Downing Street and the risk assessment they produced during the pandemic for Downing Street.

Looking at the risks and writing down how they would mitigate those risks. What would be allowed, what meetings would be allowed, how would they reduce the risk of transmission etc.

Our workplace had to have one.

Fucks sake.

Can't you see they are wearing masks?

They risked their lives during Covid.

Do you have any understanding of the NHS rules during Covid?

cakeorwine · 12/06/2023 21:20

Show me the picture of Johnson in Downing Street with his colleagues when they had cake and they are wearing masks?

No. You can't
