Oh have Janiie and Clav clocked back on?

I am judging you, Janiie, for your failure to post when this all dropped on Friday.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realise there was a commitment to post. Would you like my phone number you could perhaps text me next time to prompt me? Though check with your pals as the general consensus is to ignore me as some struggle to take me on. Its all a bit conflicting isn't it.

@Janiie no he personally didn't 'get us through covid' covid had a natural cycle of ups and downs , vaccines, boosters and restrictions, much the same throughout most of the western world, anyone would think he was in the hospitals treating patients or out there giving vaccines . They did start the vaccine programme slightly earlier but that was because the EU hadn't approved AZ or Pfizer at that point and UK was using AZ - which appeared to have been quietly dropped .

We were living in Denmark at the time- it was handled much better but I guess was easier as smaller population. A similar comparison would be France or Germany. We did no better - in fact slightly worse overall I believe.

As someone said below covid handling (apart from vaccine roll out handled by the NHS) involved massive backhanders to dodgy Tory doners, huge contracts for services to other 'mates' a whole veritable smorsgabord of dodgy corrupt practice.

And you have no idea what Keir Starmer would or wouldn't have actually done because he wasn't in power. I certainly don't think he would have been giving many millions to non tendered for contracts.

I don't doubt he did his best but let some seriously dodgy practice though and didn't take it seriously enough quick enough- certainly in Denmark they were restricting things well before the UK

How anyone can defend the man is beyond me.

I agree, last night on every bit of news you see, there are people saying he’s done a good job and they want him to come back. All I can say is these people must have very sheltered lives because they’re deluded if they think he’s done a good job. He’s a proven liar and gaslighter and those who’ve believed him have been had! Maybe that’s why they carry on supporting him, because they can’t admit they were so wrong.

I agree with this.

Of all the friends of mine who still defend Johnson and Tory's their arguments are always quoting the DM or them themselves.

Every time I challenge a statement they make in discussion they always respond "but they said that" (or I read it).

Whenever I presents actual facts and figures to dispute their beliefs I get "but they're all as bad as each other".

It's the same on MN. Those staunch supports of the right and Tory's in general can't argue with facts of what they've done well. Just pick apart the semantics of posts and search the history books for someone else who may have done similar.

The Tory's have and still are relying on the general electorate being gaslighted and believing what they are told just because the government has told us. I think - and live in hope - that people are waking up to this. We deserve better. As a minimum we at least deserve to be governed by people who think telling the truth is a minimum standard.

PerkingFaintly · 11/06/2023 12:07

Even Grant Shapps (not the most integrity-ridden human) has come out and said people in and out of the party don't miss the endless Johnson dramas.

Which makes Rees-Mogg's leap the other way, saying don't keep Johnson out of Parliament, even more noticeable.

Rees-Mogg is one of the wreckers. Rich, powerful guy who likes getting even more rich and powerful, and is very happy to have a human wrecking ball like Johnson crashing around destroying things, so he can sweep in and grab the pieces.

IIRC Andrew Bridgen (another of the JRM ilk) admitted as much in a programme about Johnson a couple of years ago. He said that Johnson was a good person to put in, because when he starts to get cornered he thrashes around and breaks things.

PS - you do know that Johnson is no more a Brexiteer than I am don't you ? He nailed his flag to that mast as it was his only way into to No.10. His family are extremely prominent Europhiles.

Johnson's ex-wife -
The unsung hero of Brexit?

Well, we know how much Johnson values Parliamentary sovereignty.

Are you saying Marina Wheeler 'got brexit done' instead of Johnson?

crosses off brexit from list of achievements

Actually - we have a list of Rachel Reeves' preferred PPE suppliers here:

Rachel Reeves Sends the Government on a Wild PPE Goose Chase...
A football agent company run by a professional football agent offering to provide “ventilators”.
An events company in Surrey offering “supplying masks and respirators from China”. The company claims to provide the “ultimate corporate day experience…[with] delicious cuisine from sushi to sandwiches, hot and cold buffets, BBQ, breakfast, snacks and lunch”.
A private legal practice in Birmingham with only two employees and no website offering to provide scrubs and gowns.
One company only incorporated in February 2020 that has only one director and shareholder.

Are you saying Marina Wheeler 'got brexit done' instead of Johnson?

Clearly not if you re-read my post.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 11/06/2023 12:25

I her book 'Rake's Progress', Johnson's sister Rachel tells how Johnson had to write an article for the press stating whether he was pro leave or remain.

The day before the article was to be delivered he played tennis with Rachel after which he told her he had no idea which side to come down on.

He decided overnight and came out in favour of leave. Like he tossed a coin.

Even he didn't really believe in leave. He had no strong feelings either way.

Notonthestairs · 11/06/2023 12:26

Wonder whether we will ever get that £100 million back from Mone and associates.
Or whether the Conservatives will ever remove the whip from her.

They included a quote saying 'If Boris deserves the credit for getting Brexit done, then Marina Wheeler QC deserves some of the credit for getting Boris to back Brexit in the first place'

Wheeler allegedly got him to back it, no mention of her 'getting it done'.

So without her, he wouldn't have backed it and get it done?

Not his fault then that brexit is a disaster?
