  • BJ: "Sue Gray! Sue Gray!" HH: (exasperated) "We don't have much time so can you stop digressing & please answer the actual question we asked you rather than keep saying name of someone whose report is not part of our evidence summary?"*

Oh dear, never mind

About time too! 🎉👏

It's just going to cause more instability. We should be concentrating on fixing things rather than wasting time having another by election.

I agree. Unfortunately the Tories are in power and are totally chaotic, divided and prone to drama.

The last Tory PM to sit a full term was David Cameron in the coalition. When handed full rein, he fucked it up hig style and was replaced with Thersa May.

Theresa May did not serve the rest of the term. She called a midterm GE. She scraped through. Theresa May resigned and was replaced by Boris Johnson.

Boris Johnson did not serve the rest of the term. He called a midterm election in December. He stormed it.

2 years later Boris Johnson is forced to resign. After a lengthy and dirty campaign Liz Truss was chosen by the Party to be our next PM.

Liz Truss did not serve the rest of the term.🫣😳😱

She was replaced by Rishi Sunak. The candidate, only weeks previous had been rejected by the party in favour of Truss.

There is no stability under the Tories. They're a fucking mess and they've wrecked the country. We need a GE.

Actually, a shame, as his initial instincts about Covid were right (ie to just let it run, with no restrictions). But he allowed himself to be influenced by a hysterical media and bonkers scientists, which if course was his big mistake.

This thread is a treat :"bonkers scientists" ? Like John Bell, Jonathon Van Tan and Tim Spector ?
Were you in the hospitals when the second wave hit ? That poor ITU nurse from Myrthr Tydfil interviewed in December 2020 will stay with me forever.
Johnson killed thousands with his indecision, popularise and arrogance- good riddance.

Nat6999 · 10/06/2023 05:22

58 Tory MP's are standing down at the next election, add Boris & Nadine & that is the majority gone unless they put experienced people to stand.

I think the LDs came second in Mid-Beds. Maybe the two parties could have a pact so LDs don't stand in Uxbridge and Labour don't stand in Mid-Beds, that way the Tories might lose both.

I doubt they will go as far as not standing, but we may see very different levels of campaigning in the two constituencies.

@MarthaHansonKGB I loathed Thatcher with every ounce of my being but Johnson was still worse. Thatcher at the very least had principles - she genuinely believed what she was doing was best for the country (proved to be totally wrong but 🤷‍♀️).

Johnson has no principles and gives not one tiny fuck about any of it except himself - all his Brexit cronies and voters delude themselves into thinking Johnson was a Leave supporter when actually he was an ardent remainer - but one thing he can spot is a bandwagon and that’s what he did.

He was a catastrophically bad PM and he’s a despicable human being. I wish him nothing but ill as he brought on us 🤬.

Thatcher was capable of doing a days work with out drinking and partying to keep her motivated. Thatcher was capable of taking difficult decisions without waiting until one was just left with bad options. Thatcher didn't break the law in office.

His fans don't care that he lied.

He only had a piece of cake and got brexit done Confused

But where are they? My evening yesterday would have been improved with the opportunity to engage with the usual suspects.

Zonder · 10/06/2023 06:41

A by-election is how we fix things in this country. Hopefully by switching away from Tory in these two cases.

Zonder · 10/06/2023 06:42

Emotionalstorm · 09/06/2023 22:34

In order to solve our country's problems we need a government that can pass bills. With every by election we are weakening our government and heading towards a standstill.

Depends on what bills they're passing. Currently they don't seem to be solving any problems.

I heard they had stopped the boots.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/06/2023 06:48

I wish my Tory MP in Somerset would stand down. He is a useless twat who was caught snorting cocaine and shagging other women and hasnt spent a single day in parliament this year because of his sex and drug addiction "problems".

Depends on what bills they're passing. Currently they don't seem to be solving any problems.

The Tories created these problems, so lets take health, they knew from reports sent to them from parliamentary health committees, that the NHS was under staffed and under equipped from as early as 2015.

What did they do about it? took away the nurse bursary, took us out of the EU, so no developed world health care staff can come here easily and continued to cut funding.

If the Tories want stability, why have they had 4 PM 's in 6 years? and why is Sunak always out on foreign jollies?

Well yes, good point. I've stopped wearing my boots, since the weather warmed up. Well done Tories.

Also, no one can afford to buy new boots anymore, so over time our net levels of bootedness as a country can be expected to fall.

Bravo, Tories.

He wasn't worse than Thatcher or truss

I doubt anyone could be worse than Liz Truss. We are all paying higher mortgages because of her.

KnitMePurlMe · 10/06/2023 08:14

@caringcarer and were paying daily for the fallout from Brexit. That was Johnson.

Truss has also caused UK Gilt yields to rocket, this is costing the Govt billions in increased debt interest repayments, they are now back up to what they were under her budget.

Criminal what she did.

Yep, the last time the Tories managed to stay united behind a leader whilst in government is the late 80s. Removing Thatcher for Major delivered them a strong win in the following GE, of course, but the arse fell out of it very soon after (stop me if this sounds familiar). Coalition was different because the presence of the Lib Dems meant the leadership couldn't be easily sabotaged, although even then they just got Cameron to do it to himself instead.

The Tories were always billed as a pragmatic party, that natural party of government thing. But the ability to remain stable and not eat themselves no longer seems to be in their DNA.

PermanentTemporary · 10/06/2023 08:40

Absolutely great news to have that weak amoral twat Johnson out of politics. Also love the way the great feelgood PM is spending most of his time taking petty playground potshots at Sunak.

I know this is about Partygate - and he's lying (of course), the polls tanked when Partygate news came out - but let's not airbrush out the trigger for FIFTY members of his government resigning from under him - he reappointed a sex offender; and after months of forcing ministers to humiliate themselves in public by arguing for policies which he immediately would reverse for his own benefit. He's not just amoral and weak, he's just plain bad at being a political leader. If he actually read any history he would see that leaders who shit on their own supporters find they haven't got any left. It's not rocket science.

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2023 08:53

Of course his going to blame Rishi! as it was only this time last year he was organizing his demise as PM.
It's always around his birthday that things tend to kick off too.

Kiwano · 09/06/2023 23:56

I think Johnson still beats Truss in the Worst PM league table. Yes, she was catastrophic, but at least the damage she did was confined to a mercifully short period. Not only did Johnson trash the economy via Brexit, he also has blood on his hands as a result of his massive mishandling of Covid.

The fall out from Trussonomics will last a decade. It will be why UK interest rates are higher than anywhere else and why peoples mortgage repayments have nearly doubled in some cases. Interest rates still haven't yet reached the rate needed to rollback her non-budget.

It's the reason that mortgage deals are again being pulled.

I don't think there are any safe Tory seats right now.

Mine is absolutely safe. It was created in 1974 and has never been anything but Conservative. Even Bozo would be safe here, if Eleanor Laing wants to retire.
