What do people do regarding these robots on the roads/paths?

Little white robots do deliveries here..

See them zooming around everywhere but this afternoon one stopped at a zebra crossing, I was driving so stopped to let it cross but it just sat there....I waited, car in opposite direction just drove across.

As it hadn't moved to cross I just drove on. What's correct action?

They would definitely end up in the river round here, going to try and convince the OH to take a trip to MK now 😂

Although I guess they can't get you if you go up stairs..?

The daleks learnt to hover… 😱

Why haven’t we got these where I live?! They look so cute ☺️

PinocchiosWife · 07/06/2023 23:46

So so sweet!

KickAssAngel · 08/06/2023 00:17

How much can they carry at once? And how would they cope with a pizza?

Woofappreciationday · 08/06/2023 00:22

They generally can carry two supermarket sized bags of food. Ours comes from the coop only.

Ylvamoon · 08/06/2023 00:26

Oh the co-op doggy! I had to proof to my dog that I am in control of this strange dog.
I made it move forward and to the right/ left and stop - all on command. (By dangling the lead in front of the sensor and saying walk on, stop ... !)

Dog was impressed and decided to walk past the reached thing. I felt like a fool.for talking to it to impress my pooch.
The robotic future is very bleak. 🥴

I think Tesco are using them to deliver with as well!

Our ones are from the Co-op, I did see a dog going absolutely nuts at one once, poor thing wouldn't stop barking and leaping about. They go quite fast as I was trying to catch one up to walk with it and I couldn't do it at fast walking pace and I didn't want to break into a trot, it was a clear street and it was on a roll.

Blimey, minimum amount at Tesco is £50 without paying a £5 surcharge

Well if they sit stock still on the pavement and get in my way, they're getting clobbered with my shopping trolley. I'm not going into the road to walk round them. And hopefully they'll get clobbered by wheelchairs, mobility scooters and buggies too, until they learn to shuffle out of the way.

🤣

WellThisIsFun1 · 08/06/2023 06:26

We have them, they're very cute and I always say 'hello little robot' when I pass them.

They do come across as a bit malevolent when loitering in a group outside the co op though

Castleintheclouds · 08/06/2023 06:45

Omg I hadn't seen them and am not ok about them. I've seen irobot and don't want to live in a robot dystopia!

OMG! I don’t even understand what you are talking about right now? (Lives in UK countryside) Could you post a picture of these little robots please and tell me what they do?

I live rurally and had never heard of these. I travelled to Milton Keynes for work one day and saw them pottering along as I was driving- I thought I'd fallen into an alternative universe or something. I had to phone DH to ask wtf was going on 😂

LynetteScavo · 08/06/2023 07:09

I've seen them in MK and felt a bit sad I couldn't try one out.

I'm guessing they only exist in flat areas- where I live it's very undulating - I'm at the top of a hill. I'm not sure a robot would make it to me.

Dorrmouse · 08/06/2023 07:31

Aaaaaahgggghhhhh don't any of you watch Black Mirror?????

MsRinky · 08/06/2023 08:18

I see them often in MK. They have reindeer antlers added around Christmas, and pumpkin stickers at Halloween. I once had to rescue one which had gone across a flooded frozen path in the woods and had then fallen through the ice and got stuck. I had one deliver me a birthday cake during covid, and half the street came out to watch it sing happy birthday to me :)

SunnyEgg · 08/06/2023 08:18

I’ve not seen these at all

Round here the dogs would take turns to shag it.

Ha nice

NoPicklesplease · 08/06/2023 08:33

You’re not supposed to stop for them, they won’t cross if they sense you’re still there. They wait for it to be clear before crossing

Sometimes you see a black repair van pull up from the robot company when robots get "stuck" or malfunction.

Or makes a bid for freedom

crackofdoom · 07/06/2023 21:47

I've never seen one either, pretty sure there's none in Cornwall. So, that's the summer holiday sorted then- Milton Keynes it is 😆

A recommended local activity in robot delivery areas is to take your children to somewhere "normal" like the park and then get a robot to deliver the ingredients for a picnic while you're there. Or a takeaway pizza. That will blow your children's minds :)

(Local children are now blase and have been known to position the robots so they are in a weeping angel type standoff and none of them can move.)

Redshoeblueshoe · 08/06/2023 17:17

redskylight that's a brilliant idea.
