What do people do regarding these robots on the roads/paths?

Little white robots do deliveries here..

See them zooming around everywhere but this afternoon one stopped at a zebra crossing, I was driving so stopped to let it cross but it just sat there....I waited, car in opposite direction just drove across.

As it hadn't moved to cross I just drove on. What's correct action?

We'd be a good candidate area too as it's pedestrianised from the coop to here, but lots of apartments, they won't be able to reach the lift buttons!

I think they text you to come down to open them up!

@wildinthecountry That’s exactly what our cat did when we got a Roomba. Hopped on and then sat on it doing victory laps around the kitchen 😂 Best kids’ party entertainer ever.

We only just got pay at pump petrol stations so I think it might take a while to see these here. Might mean those moaning about electric scooters will have something else to worry about.

So how big are they? Could they deliver a weekly shop for 4 people or just bread and milk?

They're not huge, so a weekly shop wouldn't fit in. Think the box is about 40x30cm. Enough for a takeaway or a top up shop, not a whole load

hettiethehare · 07/06/2023 17:50

How have I never heard of these! I'm in London too, so hardly at the edge of the universe!

Mind you, they'd all have dog shit on their poor little wheels round here.

stbrandonsboat · 07/06/2023 17:52

They'd get mugged and set on fire if they were used in my area.

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/06/2023 17:55

They have them at the Co-op in Sale, Trafford. They wouldn't fit a weekly shop in.

Same

Northampton has lots of them, they are cute :)

Bluebellbike · 07/06/2023 17:58

Those of you who live in areas where these are, how do severely sight impaired/blind people manage around them?

CPandme · 07/06/2023 17:58

I suspect I’d just fall over it even if it stops in front of me as I won’t see it. Shame it looks cute, but it would probably be fine and I’d have the bruises.

GalileoHumpkins · 07/06/2023 18:00

I think I'd have to stop and pet it like a dog and tell it how cute it is!!

LollipopViolet · 07/06/2023 18:00

They're called Starships! That's ace! They need to start delivering where I am! would be ordering every day to get deliveries from tiny robot friends 😀

RuthW · 07/06/2023 18:02

They stop at crossings until they can't see a car. You go first

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/06/2023 18:03

@bluebellbike they are very polite, and give way to everyone

PureBlackVoid · 07/06/2023 18:05

How do they not get mugged?? Round here even the shopping trolleys don’t last long, if they’re not chained up.

Is it weird that I feel so sorry for them, just the thought of them waiting politely in the middle of a zebra crossing until the cars stop😭

ohtowinthelottery · 07/06/2023 18:10

A neighbour showed me a video of one delivering to her DD in Milton Keynes. I think she said they'll only hold one small bag of shopping. They'd only ordered a couple of bottles of wine.

You have to be nice to them so when the AI apocalypse comes they'll spare you

🤣

This is bad news for Henry Hoovers. He'll never get a swipe on Tinder now.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/06/2023 18:18

Can they check ID for age restricted products?

Rinoachicken · 07/06/2023 18:22

In the clip where the robot gets squished by a train I felt really bad for the other robots in the background watching the traumatic demise of their pal!!

I'm visually impaired and wondered this - I went onto the company website and apparently lots of sensors and radar mean they'll avoid people or stop if something is in their path.

Tortiemiaw · 07/06/2023 18:25

I used to get really tearful when I saw them out and about in the cold winter weather.

WeAreFromThePlanetDuplo · 07/06/2023 18:35

You are all living in the future! We don't even have Waitrose here in NI. Or Aldi.

HelpMeGetThrough · 07/06/2023 18:35

They are just begging to be turned upside down or thrown in a river.
