What do people do regarding these robots on the roads/paths?

Little white robots do deliveries here..

See them zooming around everywhere but this afternoon one stopped at a zebra crossing, I was driving so stopped to let it cross but it just sat there....I waited, car in opposite direction just drove across.

As it hadn't moved to cross I just drove on. What's correct action?

We have them in Northamptonshire, I think you are meant to press pedestrian crossings for them.

elderflowerandpomelo · 07/06/2023 16:04

I think there was a thing for a while where people turned them over, like a beetle on its back…

I have seen them huddled in groups on the street. Probably exchanging information about how best to manage the human slaves when the time comes.

Frisk them for hidden opposable thumbs.

PocketfulOfMiracles · 07/06/2023 16:06

I adore them, I love that you can also pick songs on them occasionally so they open with a tune 😂

Chersfrozenface · 07/06/2023 16:06

Well if they sit stock still on the pavement and get in my way, they're getting clobbered with my shopping trolley. I'm not going into the road to walk round them. And hopefully they'll get clobbered by wheelchairs, mobility scooters and buggies too, until they learn to shuffle out of the way.

You have to be nice to them so when the AI apocalypse comes they'll spare you

This is my logic for always being polite and friendly to Siri.

QuintanaRoo · 07/06/2023 16:07

You should have got out and helped it over the crossing like a you would a confused person. 😆

I keep seeing tiktok videos by a bloke in LA and all his videos are the robots and he hates them and shouts abuse at them!

Although I guess they can't get you if you go up stairs..?

They won't learn if people keep smashing them.

polkadotdalmation · 07/06/2023 16:10

Bloody heck. Here on the wilderness I've never even heard of one

DiscoDragon · 07/06/2023 16:11

I don't think we'll ever see any of those where I live, they'd get run over by tractors and freak out all the horses being ridden up and down the lanes! We don't have pavements or zebra crossings either!

mindutopia · 07/06/2023 16:11

😂Oh my god, where we live, the Amazon guy won’t even drive all the way to our house at the end of the lane, so he just hides parcels in the hedge and then Dh is out there with a head torch at like 10pm trying to find where in the hedge my new pair of slippers might be. 😂😂

Ponderingwindow · 07/06/2023 16:11

I had no idea.

Our neighborhood gets so many packages every day. We have a ridiculous number of delivery trucks. I can’t even bring to imagine the swarm if they came by robot. They are probably coming though. Maybe a truck will bring them to the area and then deploy them to run throughout the local streets.

xogossipgirlxo · 07/06/2023 16:11

Stupid question- is it possible to push them back to the pavement or are they too heavy/won't allow you to by blocking wheels or so? 🤔

CatastrophicCat · 07/06/2023 16:13

Simianwalk · 07/06/2023 15:44

Around here they would all be mugged and chucked in the canal 😭

You must live near me Simianwalk 😂

Snowtrails · 07/06/2023 16:13

Are driverless motorised vehicles allowed to use zebra crossings?

WittynotPretty · 07/06/2023 16:14

They were trialled in neighbourhood and attracted a lot of attention- especially from curious ‘mixed infants’ on their way to and from school. They followed the delivery bots pied piper style,😁much to the irritation parents trying to get their DCs to school on time. The novelty wore off fairly quickly
I saw a report today saying the little robots will be able to control pedestrian crossings soon.

Restee · 07/06/2023 16:17

Where do you all live?! They'd be trashed in seconds by arseholes round here. Unless the potholes in the pavements got them first.

Snowtrails · 07/06/2023 16:18

control pedestrian crossings ?? Will they start telling humans what to do? Like in Humans?

Well my DH is screwed then with how he talks to Alexa sometimes 😂

Round here the local FB group would be full of posts saying 'has anyone lost this cute little pet? I'm keeping him if no one claims him!'

Kangarude · 07/06/2023 16:23

I have seen them. They are so cute. They won't cross at zebra crossings if they detect a car anywhere near. They're obviously not very good at judging distances

Letsdance8188 · 07/06/2023 16:25

I can't believe this is a thing?!

MeinKraft · 07/06/2023 16:25

Blimey. We don't even have deliveroo yet where I live.
