What are you ‘I’m old’ references that younger folk might not understand ?
I’ll start: ‘too orangey for crows, it’s just for me and my dog’

Anyone have a 'pop man' who came around the estate with glass bottles of pop? Used to return the bottles and get money back

InMySpareTime · 07/06/2023 18:48

Dewberry body shop everything.
Lip gloss in tiny tubs that screwed together into a tower of different colours.
Giant plastic dummies as pendants
Push pops
Pez dispensers
Lambrini girls
Babycham

My primary school sold crisps at play time. Also children used to run around the playground with lollipops hanging out of their mouths.

I also remember when the Pope visited in about 1982. I was in a Catholic school so we got to watch that on TV too.

A girl in my road went to see him and came back with souvenir bike spoke pope pictures.
I had ballerina sindy with flexible ankles. My sister had Weekender Sindy. A friend had a Pippa doll with long hair

yes crisps for us too and the top class run the stall on a rota basis. ( middle school system so stall run by 9 year olds ) I was also a bus monitor and expected to make sure everyone who arrived on my school bus left on it in the afternoon

At middle school we used to cover school office at lunch.. take messages, distribute registers and administer first aid or admit children to sick room or even decide they were unwell enoughto call parents to collect!! Can you imagine that being delegated to 12 and 13 year olds today?😂

"Earlier today a woman rung the BBC and said there was a hurricane on the way. Well if you're watching, dont worry there isn't "

NooNakedJacuzziness · 07/06/2023 20:01

I remember when ITV went on strike and they showed Batman and Happy Days instead of TV AM in the mornings - it was waaay better

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/06/2023 20:10

@listsandbudgets we used to make tea and coffee for the teachers breaks and clean up the staff room afterwards- including emptying their ashtrays !

Watch out, watch out there's a Humphrey about

Will patrons kindly refrain from running, pushing, acrobatics or gymnastics, shouting, ducking, petting, bombing, swimming in the diving area, smoking.

Oh, I hankered for a Sindy for years. When I finally got one I was over the moon! Simple pleasures...

I had pippa dolls we couldn't afford Sindy<tiny violin> and I don't think Barbie was on my radar .

dreamonlucid · 07/06/2023 08:47

Was it screwball scramble?

Thank you but no, the balls were lots of difrerent colours and smaller than the screwball scramble ones.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 07/06/2023 21:17

@dreamonlucid The motorbike one - was it Street Hawk?

Flippersmum · 07/06/2023 21:18

ChocChipHandbag · 07/06/2023 08:50

I feel like I can picture this somewhere in the recesses of my mind, were the balls purple?

@ChocChipHandbag some were definitely purple!!

quirkysitcom · 07/06/2023 21:18

You wouldn't steal a handbag...

Flippersmum · 07/06/2023 21:21

FullOfBiscuit · 07/06/2023 11:14

Not this? Although not tiny balls. What was the game do you remember anything else about it?

@FullOfBiscuit no not that. I never actually saw the game, they just used to bring the little balls in to school!

Flippersmum · 07/06/2023 21:28

@Mrsjayy thanks just googled crossfire. The ball bearings I'm remembering were purple and possible other colours I'm thinking pink. I also think they may have been painted metallic but actually made of clayclay as I'm sure one broke in half and was kind of brown...dust

I wish I was in Greenhall Whitley land ,,

‘Where beer is strong…’. I still sing that now.

My Dad always said at the time though that Greenall Whitley was actually pretty awful beer.

MissDollyMix · 07/06/2023 21:30

Anyone remember when someone did something naughty at school and people would say “ummmmm”? Maybe it was just my school! Seems funny thinking back!

We either went to the same school or it was a thing!

Do children still do that?

ChocChipHandbag · 07/06/2023 21:35

I remember it as more "Ummmmah". Scotland, 1980s.
