What are you ‘I’m old’ references that younger folk might not understand ?
I’ll start: ‘too orangey for crows, it’s just for me and my dog’

The water in Majorca

J R Hartley

I'm a McCain Oven Chips fan
Great for the kids and the old man
Better than chips from a chip pan
40% less fat!

Ain't that a real mother for ya (because cooking chips is all mums are good for)

I remember evil knivel and begged for a wind up bike toyand loved it.

Kit the car, from knight rider.

I fancied the guys from a motorbike programme? Some American series.

Loved the dukes of hazard

And adorned Wonder Woman and superman!

But one of the TV ads that's tick in my head was the scotch VHS tapes where they had skeletons dancing around, I loved it.. seem to recall it was quite funky music.

Can I add that back in the day, I was 100% allowed to be an utter Tom boy and had toy guns etc, and I'm so grateful that was not seen as anything out then me loving cars.

Those were the days.

"re record, not fade away"

ChocChipHandbag · 07/06/2023 00:46

And the motorbike programme was CHIPS!

Erik Estrada was one of them.

VanillaImpulse · 07/06/2023 00:55

A is for Alpha, B is for Bites. C for yourself that they taste just right. D is for Dinner, E is for Eggs!
Letters so tasty from A through to Z!
Crisp golden potato and fluffy inside.
Oven baked, grilled or fried!
Made by Birds Eye, you can't buy better
And called ALPHABITES cos each one's a letter!!

Chips.. that was it the man I liked had dark kind of boofy hair.

This thread has been lovely just sat thinking about my lovely 70s house with yellow ceilings from the 40 malbroro a day habit, the hanging plant holders and listening ABBA on the record player.

Did anyone else have the game shoots away? And a treetop house with weebles.

When someone trashed the Blue Peter garden

That was so sad - Percy Thrower was so upset. And they killed the fish.

Didn't a footballer admit to doing this years later?

AutisticLegoLover · 07/06/2023 01:01

@dreamonlucid I had both those toys! Loved them.

VivienneDelacroix · 07/06/2023 01:02

Sunday afternoon sports competitions on TV: Kick-start, Ski Sunday, Paddles Up. I loved these.

ChocChipHandbag · 07/06/2023 01:04

OMG I LOVED Kick Start. With Peter Purves. The bunny hop!

ChocChipHandbag · 07/06/2023 01:09

theblackradiator · 06/06/2023 23:53

and I best not mention Jim'll fix it
and when I think back at how I desperately wanted to go on that show.
and I also loved Rolfs cartoon time.🫣

I also loved when Rolf would do the massive big paintings "Can you tell what it is yet?"

Tony Hart was never outed as anything bad, was he? Please let me have one sacred memory!

I never heard anything bad about Tony Hart I think he's ok I used to watch that show.

Rolf Harris I used to switch over he gave me the creeps even through the TV.

PatchworkDonkey · 07/06/2023 01:39

@Clickncollect

I still sit down to dinner sometimes and say ‘feed me’ in a deep voice as per the McCain oven chips advert.

Did this happen to feature a plant? I remember some ad or something ripping off a film called Little Shop Of Horrors that had a carnivorous plant always saying that. Started off all small and cute but bit people's fingers for the blood, by the end it was taller than a person and the guy was feeding it his enemies

FlutteryButterfly · 07/06/2023 01:44

Stig of the dump

Opalfruits not Starbursts
Marathons not Snickers!

Halfpenny and £1 notes.

The old click clack card reading device that copied and details on to carbon copies Prices entered manually at the till, no scanning.

Don't get me started on Lps, cassettes, typewriters etc!

Why don’t you just switch off your television set
And go out and do something less boring instead

whitesnowflake · 07/06/2023 03:00

'Nah, Luton airport!'

InMySpareTime · 07/06/2023 06:28

The cartoon of Eighty Days Around the World, with the creepy wolf with the flashy eye

Eldorado-City of gold "Someday we will find, the ciiity of Go-o-o-o-old!"

Muskahounds

The Herb Garden (which always featured a tortured rhyme for Parsley)

InMySpareTime · 07/06/2023 06:30

The glue advert (solvite?) where they literally glued a guy in overalls to a board and lifted it up on a crane. They'd never get away with that these days.

Did anyone else have a Major Morgan, a Speak+spell or a Speak+maths?

ShoesoftheWorld · 07/06/2023 06:58

Astonishing how many of these totally inconsequential things are stuck in our psyche. I read Opal Fruit above and instantly heard 'Made to make your mouth water'. And reading the McCain oven chips 40% less fat song the tune was instantly there.

Wizbit! sitting at the table for school dinners in primary school, we use to pretend the little plastic cone shaped salt and pots were Wizbit.

Flippersmum · 07/06/2023 07:58

This has made me so happy!
Does anyone remember some game in the 1970s that came with lots of tiny metallic painted balls? My friend gave me some of the balls. I'm autistic and they made me so happy. I've been searching for them.for years. Please say if you know what I'm talking about!

I remember the Public information Films where trains ran over your legs and you could die from drinking bleach from a lemonade bottle!

I remember that one, the boy coming back from football practice and he got his boots stuck on the line, then the train came, the next you see is him without legs. It's stuck with me all these years.

My Mum was a nurse in London and she said she once had someone who had run for the train but slipped and ended up underneath the wheels. She said it was horrible to deal with.

CoffeeAndFagToStartTheDay · 07/06/2023 08:00

ok.....2 kids tv programmes that no one I know remembers, so I try here

1st one is "chocky" a really scary intense series about a boy who sort of becomes possessed by a super intelligent alien, he gets abducted by shady scientists (but has no memory of it) and is followed by a government agency, his parents are well super intense!

even the intro is freaky as it starts with a scream.
