What are you ‘I’m old’ references that younger folk might not understand ?
I’ll start: ‘too orangey for crows, it’s just for me and my dog’

Armchair Thriller - the opening titles scared the wits out of me . And that episode with the nun and the rocking chair 😱

Pearl and Dean at the cinemas.

Salon Selectives - “like you’ve just stepped out of the salon, Salon Selectives “

WeegieWan · 07/06/2023 00:11

'Double diamond works wonders, works wonders...'

The Leonard Rossiter/Joan Collins Campari ads where she always ends up with the Campari all over her.

'Accurist, acc your elbow, acc your thigh'

'On my horses, lovely white horses I'll fly away...'
Fab thread!

MaidOfSteel · 07/06/2023 00:11

Any North-Easterners who fondly remember Tudor Crisps? 'A canny bag a Tudor.' Much better than Walkers.

And remember being really excited about getting to watch telly at school? The teachers would wheel in that big telly cabinet that had a disproportionately small screen. I used to love a series they'd show called How We Used To Live. I still love history shows even now.

You can tell a Wella woman by the way she wears her hair...

For the irish folk:
Knock knock open wide see what's on the other side
Knock Knock anymore come with me through the magic door..

'Rruff' said Rafferty, 'uuggh' said Cornelius

theblackradiator · 07/06/2023 00:26

Bloody tales of the unexpected used to scare the shit out of me even the silhouettes of those women dancing in the fire at the beginning.

Did anyone else sing the rude version of Fraggle Rock?

🎶 Down at Fraggle Rock (clap clap)
Grab that Fraggle by his cock
Swing him round your head (clap clap)
Now that Fraggle surely dead 🎶

Hopefully someone else admits to singing this 😳

Yes!

I don't know the proper versions of anything.

Remember being so shocked when I heard the Blue Peter theme tune - that! For a children's show?! Was years before I realised it's a piece of classical music and isn't supposed to have lyrics 😂

Teddy Bears Picnic is apparently a small child's playtime rhyme in it's original version.

The song about the boat on the river wasn't supposed to feature drugs.

And the song about Daisy the village bike was supposed to be a sweet rhyme about love and marriage or something like that.

We did the levitation thing too. The one being levitated laid down on the floor and the one at their head told a very short story featuring the laying down one, at the end of which they died. Everyone else in turn round the group whispered "died" or "killed" or whatever the story ended with (it had to be something like that). Was supposed to trick them into being temporarily dead. Then we levitated them up towards heaven, about 8 kids using only two fingers on each hand. Goodness knows how it worked, must have all been skinny and weighed nothing. We'd raise them up above our heads before lowering them back down. Good job we never dropped anyone!

I once wrote to the makers of Country Life butter that the "buttermen" waved a Union Flag to the line "It's Country Life, it's English too", pointing out that the Union Flag was not the English flag, I never got a reply.

Nowadays I think I'd find the line "If you haven't any in have a word with the wife" a bit more problematic.

Love this! Woman after my own heart.

"All that way just to pick up a chicken?!"

That was the sequel when Elspeth went to "hen night" in Inverness.

I loved "pea and ham, from a chicken"
