Why is it so cold?

Anyone wondering this? The weather forecast keeps saying 20/21 degrees, but I’m freezing! It’s windy and cold. I’m in bed now with my electric blanket on, a duvet, fleece blanket and hot water bottle.

I think I’ve felt warmer when it’s been 11 degrees. It’s so windy. I feel like the weather forecast is gaslighting us!

I don’t like this fake summer. When is it actually going to get warm??

My house was really cold today. It was beautiful outside in the sun but we had to turn the heating on for a little while. We could have put on warmer jumpers but our parrot was cold and angry about it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Unicorntastic · 02/06/2023 23:01

It is freezing! No idea if it’ll warm up at this rate!

MayBeee · 02/06/2023 23:01

I think it depends on your location ? Northwest here and it's been 21° for a good few days.

I'm with you. WTF?! Forecast for the next 10 days says 20/21 degrees and I don't believe a word of it!

DismantledKing · 02/06/2023 23:03

There’s a brisk cold wind coming from the North Sea. If you’re over the East side of the country you’ll feel it

MumsPett · 02/06/2023 23:04

Yes I'm shivering

Alighttouchonthetiller · 02/06/2023 23:05

Careful. I posted about this earlier and was told it was because I can't dress myself. 🙄

I think it's down to cloud cover and wind direction. Some folk are getting wall to wall sun shine, which is very strong at this time of the years, whereas those of us in the east are getting cloud cover and northerly winds. It brightened up here earlier for the first time this week and out of the wind it was really pleasant, however the wind still feels cold and is keeping the temperature down.

TheApplianceofScience · 02/06/2023 23:05

Well last week the wind was blowing at about 14 Kms an hour and gusting at 42 at one point, but more importantly it is a EAST NORTH EAST 🙄wind, it is never going to be warm.

Summer my arse…

Mutabiliss · 02/06/2023 23:05

It's not 21 degrees at night though. It's 8 degrees where I am right now, and with a chilly north wind. It was lovely in the sun today, definitely 21, but much cooler when it was cloudy.

I think the breeze is what's making it feel so cold, I'm in the east and that cold north/east wind really affects the temperature.

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2023 23:07

It’s pretty cold but TBF I’m not needing an electric blanket and fleece etc - just my regular duvet. Alexa says it’s 10 degrees outside at the moment.

YogaLite · 02/06/2023 23:09

Yes, it's the wind from the North Pole (near enough)

Laiste · 02/06/2023 23:09

DH and i walked out of a restaurant this eve at about 9.30 and it was bloody freezing! (rural midlands) We both said ''It's bloody freezing out here!'' at the same time.

We've had temp drops to only 1 or 2 degrees on clear nights recently.

I wish the wind would piss off. Tried to sit out in the sun this aft but had to go back in as the wind was making it chilly. Our house gets quite cold in the wind as it's high up and the wind whips right round it. I had the heating on for an hour at 6ish this morning!

Honeysuckle16 · 02/06/2023 23:10

Sun all the way here in Edinburgh. No cold winds (despite being beside North Sea), just blissful weather. Set to continue into next week.

MaydinEssex · 02/06/2023 23:10

I live a few minutes away from the seafront on the east coast, and we always have a bit of a breeze. Just lately though it's been really chilly, no way would I go out without a jacket. I put my heating on today, I've turned it off now, as it feels wrong having central heating on in June!

WhereLightGoes · 02/06/2023 23:11

Thought it was me. It was bright and sunny here today but I was wearing bed socks around the house!

Ohfgsjon · 02/06/2023 23:12

Boiling here in Cheshire. I'm in bed with the fan on me. Been like this for over a week now.

tailinthejam · 02/06/2023 23:13

It's the position of the jet stream at the moment. That's what drives the weather, and until it moves, we are stuck with the wind direction coming from chilly parts.

@OhYouBadBadKitten is our resident MN weather bod, and can explain things far better than I can.

Rabbitcar · 02/06/2023 23:14

It’s just weird, isn’t it? I think it is the wind.

I’d understand if it said 12 degrees and was cold, but I don’t understand how it can be 20.

We’re in London but DD in Cambridge says it’s the same there.

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2023 23:14

TBH I quite like it, it was sunny and pleasant all day and now is cold and lovely for snuggling under the duvet - hate it when it’s too hot.

ssd · 02/06/2023 23:15

Beautiful weather here in Glasgow and that's a sentence you won't see much

Rabbitcar · 02/06/2023 23:16

I’m from Cheshire @Ohfgsjon . Maybe I need to move back up North for the weather (not a sentence I’d ever thought I’d type)!

TheaBrandt · 02/06/2023 23:17

Urgh it’s freezing. How is it sunny and June yet still arctic? Wore clothes I wear in January today and I was not too hot. Electric blanket on 🙄

dalmatianmad · 02/06/2023 23:17

I'm always hot, have to open windows all the time etc. I cannot get warm. It's freezing here in east Midlands 😫

HotSince82 · 02/06/2023 23:17

West is best right now.

Boiling here in Merseyside

Laiste · 02/06/2023 23:17

This is such a British thread 😃

Years ago i made friends with an American lady who'd just arrived in the UK to live for a year. She said
''Back home we take the piss out of brits always talking about the weather - but now i understand why you do it and i'm doing it too! You never know what the hell weather you're going to wake up to over here and it'll all be different again by lunchtime!''
😂
