I’ve caved and put the heating on.

I’m absolutely freezing this evening and just put the heating on. Anyone else cold?

OP posts:
PromisingMiddleagedWoman · 01/06/2023 21:22

Yep, me too. The time of year is irrelevant - if the thermostat goes below 20C the heating goes on. I hate feeling cold and luckily can afford the heating.

Mykittensmittens · 01/06/2023 21:24

There is an east west divide with the weather, apparently. And it’s slow moving.

i’m west-west midlands and it’s chilly - my kitchen is 16c and hallway 15c. I don’t expect to be tropical and we tolerated a lot lower than that in the winter but it’s bloody June! We have camera boxes in our bird nests and this time last year they were almost fledging - this year they’re not hatched yet. It’s a cold spring.

we had an hour this PM where I warmed up, took my cardigan off, and that was fate. Cloud came again and it was back on! As as thick socks, fire and blankets !

I know how many kwh I have used every month for the last five years.

I know how many I have used year to date and how much that has cost me and how that compares with previous years and with my monthly targets to stay within a set energy budget. I know how much that budget will cost me throughout the rest of the year.

I know where I've made savings (Feb) compared to the budget that I can call upon now if I want them.

I also know how my own heating/gas compares to the average for other similar properties (quite a bit lower).

So no, they're not necessarily the same people who will complain about a shock £450 bill.

Amazing weather here in Northern Ireland - we’re not often warmer than the south of England so it is oddly satisfying when we are.

Bloody freezing in Yorkshire
Watching the sunny cricket in London on TV

Oh, you poor people in Yorkshire. It's lovely over here in Lancashire. 😎

Haha. Some wars never end. 😉 😁

BitOutOfPractice · 01/06/2023 21:35

Dark, cold, grey, damp windy here in Essex. Sick of it.

MissionImpossible3 · 01/06/2023 21:35

Warwickshire and it’s really cold. Came to bed to warm up
Haven’t had a sunny day since Saturday

WhisperingAutistic · 01/06/2023 21:38

I'm in Blackpool and we went to the beach today. It was boiling and I've burnt my face, even though I had suncream on.

Rainbow1612 · 01/06/2023 21:39

Yep, we did the same. Got to about 5pm and were fed up of being cold so popped the heating on for a bit. Feels ridiculous in June! We're in lincolnshire

RosaMoline · 01/06/2023 21:40

London suburbs here. In bed and it’s bloody freezing!

Geneva12 · 01/06/2023 21:43

I’m in Devon. It’s been really hot today. DD has the fan on in her room and we’ve only just shut the back door that we had open to help cool down house.

Thesearmsofmine · 01/06/2023 21:43

I’m in Yorkshire and it’s chilly this evening. It’s 10 here now apparently. No heating going on though. It’s been warm recently so I think you notice the drop in temperature more!

Brunnera · 01/06/2023 21:46

Was freezing here this morning (Derbyshire) . Really cold wind. Beautiful afternoon. Then back under a blanket this evening. Stupid stupid weather! Wouldn't entertain putting the heating on in June though!

What's the betting we'll see 39/40 degrees again for a brief summer after an erratic Spring?!

ohtowinthelottery · 01/06/2023 21:47

No heating on here in Shropshire. It's been shorts and t-shirt weather most of the day. Have put a hoodie on this evening though.
Relative in Norfolk posted a photo of their lit wood burner on SM though.

BarrelOfOtters · 01/06/2023 21:49

In north west, had to sit in shade at lunchtime as too hot, just got in from dog walk along coast in at shirt.

Floralnomad · 01/06/2023 21:50

I’m SE , it warmed up this afternoon but I did have the heating on earlier in the week . This morning walking the dog I was wearing a jumper and a woolly hat - ridiculous for June 1st .

AngeloMysterioso · 01/06/2023 21:50

We’re in Kent- ours kicks in automatically to keep the temp at least 18° and it’s come on at night most of the last week

suburbophobe · 01/06/2023 21:54

Yes, cold.

Ridiculous. 1st of June.

I have a blanket on my sofa. Cheaper than putting the heating on, but I live in an apartment, not an old house

LER83 · 01/06/2023 21:55

On holiday in Dorset and we've had lovely weather all week! Had to buy hats and suntan lotion as didn't pack any! I love the heat, the hotter the better, but even I had to seek shade this afternoon! Not sure I want to go home tomorrow (Essex)!

gogohmm · 01/06/2023 21:56

Sitting here in a summer dress, windows open, Bristol

BitOutOfPractice · 01/06/2023 21:56

There’s an east / west divide in the temperature. Warm in the west. Cold in the east.

Im in what is supposed to be Britain’s sunniest county, far east, but it’s cold and miserable. I’ll not be putting the heating on as my home is very well insulated and warm.

but omg I am so so fed up of this grey grey cold weather.

embolass · 01/06/2023 22:03

Snap put mine on this evening too!!! East of Scotland , Mon and Tues lovely but this is like February, roll on weekend as it’s supposed to improve 🙏🏻

TheChosenTwo · 01/06/2023 22:04

Started off overcast and windy this morning here in the SE, scrapped plans for a picnic as none of us fancied sitting out in it so went out for lunch in a restaurant. About 3pm the sun came out and it’s been a scorching this afternoon, had windows and the big doors in the kitchen all the way opened up, only just come in and shut them now! Bedroom window will stay open as it does most of the year - I’m not warm or cold, I’m just about right. Call me Goldilocks 😂

Tr1skel1on · 01/06/2023 22:05

It's been absolutely tropical here for days, best weather since lockdown 2020 I think

I'm in the far north west

When the south east had nearly 40c last year we had fog and drizzle

I'll absolutely take this! Nice change to listening to news of a heatwave whilst wearing winter PJ's in front of the fire!

Alighttouchonthetiller · 01/06/2023 22:08

Lincolnshire. Heating on, hot water bottles deployed. I've been wearing my winter coat this week.

Give it a fortnight and I'll probably be moaning that I'm too hot.
