Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?

I was looking at some pictures of Kate before she got married. She looked stunning, had style, was really chic and sexy.
Now she looks quite frumpy. The pink dress she wore at the Chelsea Flower show looked better on her mum, because it's a dress for a middle aged woman! WHY is Kate forced into dowdiness? She looks great in trousers and well cut jackets. She's a beautiful woman, are 'they' concerned she might look a bit too good and not be taken seriously? It's like queen Elizabeth. She was beautiful but her clothes were dreadful. Obviously this is my opinion but I'd like to know what others think.

I think that if she is dressed then she's fine. I wouldn't like to think of anyone being forced to wear clothes they hated, but I am old enough to recognize that it is nobody's job to dress to please me.

sashagabadon · 28/05/2023 18:17

Chelsea flower show is a dress sort of place though, especially if weather nice. No one rocks up in a trouser suit. It’s all brightly coloured dresses and/ or florals so for that reason it’s fine

Moonlaserbearwolf · 28/05/2023 18:18

I’ve never thought she looks dowdy. To be honest, she would look good in most things.

She’s also in her 40s so she technically is middle aged. Sometimes I think they get it a little bit wrong with her dressing (Personally I didn’t like the baby pink she wore the other day, the suit and cut itself was lovely and elegant on her as anything is given her slender figure and her height but that barbie baby pink just wasn’t imo, almost a little tacky) but mostly I think she looks very elegant and her style/stylist has evolved her sense of style well over the years. Her actual personal life fashion style as far as we can see from relaxed photos is very relaxed ie Breton tops and knitted jumpers, jeans, boots and Barbour jackets etc - a real countryside type girl.

BMW6 · 28/05/2023 18:32

Well you can never, ever, please 100% of people 100% of the time can you!

Personally I don't really care what she (or anyone else) is wearing - as long as its not actually offensive.

samestyle · 28/05/2023 18:33

I doubt she would choose to dress this way, it's expected that a royals wear, professional modest clothes and ones that make them stand out of crowd, hence the colours.

namitynamechange · 28/05/2023 18:37

But also, "frumpy" is sort of in fashion at the moment and has been for a while. So while the royal family aren't at the cutting edge of fashion as such, a reduced version of that sort of style has had a chance to filter through. Its 100% the sort of nice dress that you would expect to see worn at weddings this summer.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 28/05/2023 18:38

If she's frumpy there's no hope for me.

Forshameandyegads · 28/05/2023 18:39

Kate IS middle aged.

Also the clothes she wore pre-marriage, are not considered acceptable for a woman who will one day be queen.

I'm sure I read somewhere that they have to stand out for security reasons - but that wouldn't make sense with the men always being in plain suits

LittleBearPad · 28/05/2023 18:41

The dress at Chelsea was lovely, it was demure but not frumpy.

It would be odd if a forty something wore the same clothes they wore when in their early twenties.

Nor me 😂

HermioneWeasley · 28/05/2023 18:58

Agree, with her height and extreme slenderness she could wear anything and always manages to look frumpy/outdated.

TeenLifeMum · 28/05/2023 19:00

Well if Kate looks dowdy (no she bloody doesn’t) there’s no hope for me.

continentallentil · 28/05/2023 19:02

She won’t be forced into anything

CFS is a very trad event like Ascot, she often does a more casual look.

I’d agree she’s not an interesting dresser, but I guess she’s just not v interested in it. I don’t think she actually looks dowdy though, just sometimes a bit dull.

SwedishDeathClearance · 28/05/2023 19:03

I think:
She has some clothes and colours that she looks wonderful in (generally reds, greens, bright blues) and some clothes in which she does not (generally browns and muddy greens and oddly yellow)

Just like the rest of us!
I do agree that she has had a much more eclectic range of cloth recently and some dont suit her or indeed fit well- like the earthshot event dress)

eddiemairswife · 28/05/2023 19:03

Her dresses always seem to be a little bit too long.

openstop · 28/05/2023 19:03

Shes fine

FancyFanny · 28/05/2023 19:16

Kate is middle-aged!

LlynTegid · 28/05/2023 19:17

The previous Princess of Wales was accused of being frumpy, at a much younger age.

fyn · 28/05/2023 19:21

I think realistically most people dress differently in their late 30s/40s that they did in their early/mid 20s.

HRTQueen · 28/05/2023 19:27

She always looks nice but that’s about it

reflective of what she is nice but not much more can be said

I think for many this is perfect for the future Queen (can’t say I agree)

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 28/05/2023 19:28

Demure and modest, classic.
Far nicer than calling someone frumpy.

ourflagmeansdeath · 28/05/2023 19:29

She looks amazing for being in her 40s, can't really expect her to dress the same as she did when she was younger. I personally quite liked the pink dress she wore but each to their own. She's a pretty woman anyway. 😊

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 28/05/2023 19:29

I think she dresses conservatively. Remember the flowery dress she wore after baby George was born? She doesn't wear anything like that these days. She could wear stuff that's a lot more interesting and showcase British designers. She wouldn't wear Vivienne Westwood would she? So it's all a bit boring. But what I really dislike is her hats - they are do boring! I prefer Camilla's - they are much more flamboyant. Kate would look good in anything and it's a shame that she doesn't go for clothes that look more interesting. I do think that she looks better in evening wear though as she seems to look more glamorous then.
