Cooked breakfast - what’s in yours?

We have guests for the bank holiday weekend so DH popped to the butchers for sausages, bacon, black pudding, haggis and eggs. I was planning to do mushrooms, hash browns, beans, potato scones and toast too. I am a put everything on the table and help yourself kind of host so whatever combination of the above is upto the individual.

However, a debate has began amongst us all - does a tomato belong on a cooked breakfast?

Mine would be bacon, sausage, fried egg, hash browns, fried bread and tin tomtoes. Never eaten black pudding or haggis. This thread is making me really hungry and it always tastes better when someone else makes it.

I don’t eat tomatoes, but my family do and they are positively phobic about them on a cooked breakfast. Yuck.

UndercoverCop · 27/05/2023 19:54

Toast, Bacon, poached eggs, tomatoes for me, either grilled halved large ones or oven roasted baby plums and mushrooms with olive oil and salt and pepper. (I happily forego the bacon, I like it but not essential)
DH sausage , bacon, beans, fried egg, toast/fried bread, hash browns, black pudding, tomato as above. No mushrooms.
Pot of tea
Traditional fry up isn't my favourite breakfast by a long shot.

Yes tomatoes belong! Could eat a full English now 😋 I like fried Red onions too

Octaviathethird · 27/05/2023 20:01

Veggie sausages, veggie bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, beans, avocado, halloumi and sunblushed tomatoes!

RotundRuby · 27/05/2023 20:08

I bloody love a fried slice!

Don't eat pork, never have but a lot of cafes round here are now turkish so they do sausages in various different meats, I don't love them but could eat a fried chicken sausage every now and again

Fried Egg
Fried Slice
Baked Beans
Mushrooms
Brown Sauce
Pint mug of strong tea

LadyPenelope68 · 27/05/2023 20:11

Absolutely yes to tomatoes, as long as they’re grilled or oven baked - not raw, or even worse, tinned 🤮
my ideal breakfast would be very crispy bacon, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, potato scones all with a glass of fresh fruit juice, followed by thick toast with butter and marmalade accompanied by fresh coffee.

newtb · 27/05/2023 20:19

Streaky bacon, old English sausage, fried eggs, mushrooms - field for preference, black pudding. No hash browns for me. Tomato as long as fresh and not tinned. Toast.

SpringNotSprung · 27/05/2023 20:24

Half a tomato - cooked in the oven
Bacon
Sausage
Fried egg
Mushrooms

Or a platter of bacon sandwiches with fruit and Yoghurt.

That's more than enough for us and we like to.serve good wholemeal (and soft white) toast with jams.and marmalade.

ODFOx · 27/05/2023 20:34

If we have guests I'll make bubble and squeak as well as hash browns. Otherwise it's one or the other.
Bacon
Egg
Sausage
Black pudding
(White pudding or haggis sometimes)
Grilled tomatoes
Fried mushrooms
Fried bread
Baked beans (sometimes)
Juice
Tea/coffee

ODFOx · 27/05/2023 20:38

We're also fond of eggs Benedict or florentine; probably rarer than a full English as my hollandaise is inconsistent 🙂

BlackForestCake · 27/05/2023 20:40

the fried tomato looked like a blood clot

It's an odd thing to say when there's black pudding on the plate that literally is a blood clot.

threelionsonashirt · 27/05/2023 20:41

Sausage, bacon, eggs ( poached or scrambled ) beans, tiny bit of black pudding, mushrooms ( cooked well ) hash browns, white toast with real butter. Brown sauce.

Cup of tea ( strong )

mondaytosunday · 27/05/2023 20:42

Yes, but choose either potato scones or hash browns, you don't need both (and I'd say hash browns don't belong in a cooked breakfast - fried bread though, yum!

Colinfromaccounts · 27/05/2023 20:44

as a vegetarian

halloumi
baked beans
vege sausage
poached eggs
hash brown
mushrooms
toast

847arc · 27/05/2023 20:45

Definitely no tomatoes! Or baked beans because they always go cold first and run into everything else. In a separate pot, maybe.

My ideal would be bacon, sausage, poached or scrambled egg, black pudding, fried bread, tomato sauce.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/05/2023 20:45

Haggis? You bought a haggis but tomato is up for debate?! 😂

Haggis and black pudding would be a definite no for me.

I would like:

Sausage
Egg
Mushrooms
Tomato's
Beans
Bacon
Either toast or hash brown

847arc · 27/05/2023 20:45

Forgot the mushrooms!

MidnightMeltdown · 27/05/2023 20:46

I don't know why there's an apostrophe in my tomato

WeAllHaveWings · 27/05/2023 20:47

Link sausages (got to be from the butchers)
Lorne sausage
Smoked Bacon
Fried egg
Tattie Scone
Fried scotch dumpling
Fried bread

Dh will also have black pudding

Ketchup or brown sauce

allthewoes · 27/05/2023 20:47

Nope. I can just about accept half a grilled tomato, but sloppy tinned tomatoes can get in the bin.

MonumentalLentil · 27/05/2023 20:50

The best breakfast is Israeli:
Cheeses
Eggs, cooked any way
Fruits
Tomato
Cucumber
Grated carrot
Breads
Cereals
Pretty much anything that isn't meat...

greyhairnomore · 27/05/2023 20:53
