Cooked breakfast - what’s in yours?

We have guests for the bank holiday weekend so DH popped to the butchers for sausages, bacon, black pudding, haggis and eggs. I was planning to do mushrooms, hash browns, beans, potato scones and toast too. I am a put everything on the table and help yourself kind of host so whatever combination of the above is upto the individual.

However, a debate has began amongst us all - does a tomato belong on a cooked breakfast?

Tomatoes belong in the bin.

Redglitter · 27/05/2023 18:42

Definitely no tomatoes.

Bacon
Egg
Potato Scone
Square sausage
Link sausage
Beans
Haggis
Black pudding
Fried bread

Shade17 · 27/05/2023 18:46

Fried eggs
Bacon
Sausages
Black pudding
Beans
Hash browns
Mushrooms
Toast
Fried bread

If I wanted to eat tomato, I’d order a salad. 🤣

Small tomatoes on the vine, roasted in olive oil and herbs. Mmm

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 27/05/2023 18:48

Loving everyone’s personal preferences.

@Bongosbanjo fear not both steak slice and pork links are on offer. DH has promised to get some tomatoes in the morning.

Out of it all I will probably have bacon, mushrooms and toast with a flat white and a glass of apple juice.

On my ideal one -
bacon
sausages
beans
scrambled egg
toast
fried potatoes

on the ones I actually make, because DS and DH outnumber me so theirs wins-
sausages
poached eggs
beans
avocado
halloumi
tomatoes
toast

Halloumi and avocado on a fry up is the most middle class thing I've ever read Grin

Megapint · 27/05/2023 18:49

Ohhh that sounds lovely. Not so keen on a grilled tomato but tinned tomatoes is a yes. I like to finish with a bit of jam on toast after all the savory goodness.

mrsbyers · 27/05/2023 18:51

I enjoy a tomato when I’m eating one out but wouldn’t bother just for me in the house and hash browns can get the cock back to America and stop infiltrating our English Breakfast

We would usually have
Bacon
Sausage
Eggs (usually fried )
Mushrooms
Beans (in a suitable receptacle)
Toast
Hubby might have some black pudding

Haywirecity · 27/05/2023 18:54

Poached egg on toast, fried bread, beans, fresh tomato, fresh mushrooms, hash brown, fried bread, a veggie sausage and some fried bread.

Oh, did I mention fried bread?

ElmTree22 · 27/05/2023 18:54

I have vegan sausages, scrambled tofu, roasted vine tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms with spinach, hash browns, beans and sourdough toast.

SheilaFentiman · 27/05/2023 18:56

Poached eggs, hash brown, sausages, tomatoes, toast.

HRTeatime · 27/05/2023 18:57

My ultimate cooked breakfast:
Bacon
sausage
mushrooms
fried eggs
fried potatoes (hate hash browns)
baked beans (I accept that’s debatable for some)
black pudding
kidneys (rarely see them in a menu, but I love them)
some cherry tomatoes halved and either fried really well or roasted
fried white bread (with the beans on top)

My realistic cooked breakfast if we have guests:
bacon
sausage
mushrooms
fried eggs (or scrambled if guests prefer)
beans
tomatoes
toast

ill also put some sliced melon, berries, cheese, ham, and jam and Nutella for the toast for those not keen on a cooked breakfast (the kids usually dove into all the fruit and cheese).

HRTeatime · 27/05/2023 18:58

Though I suppose it might just be my sisters kids are a bit odd, not wanting the good stuff and preferring fruits🤣🤣

ChopsyDoesntDoFungus · 27/05/2023 18:59

No white pudding or fruit pudding?
tomatoes are nice. Makes it feel healthy haha.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 27/05/2023 18:59

In 'Notes from a Small Island', Bill Bryson describes coming face to face with a full English for the first time and thinking that the fried tomato looked like a blood clot. I mean, they don't, really, but I wasn't a fan of fried tomatoes before I read that, and I really can't be doing with them since. Plus, it makes me laugh Grin

My perfect cooked breakfast would be smoked bacon, sausage, hash browns, mushrooms, baked beans, fried bread, and a fried egg. Amazing.

Hottoffeesauce · 27/05/2023 18:59

Sausage, bacon, fried egg, haggis, hash brown, grilled tomato, baked beans, mushrooms. Toast and proper butter and a coffee. Oh yeah!

CountessBathorysBeautySecrets · 27/05/2023 19:00

I dislike cooked tomatoes so they are never given houseroom on my breakfast plate. And don't even start me on the horror that is baked bloody beans.

Grilled black pudding
Grilled white pudding
Grilled sausages
Grilled rasher
Fried egg
Fried mushrooms

Lots of toast. Freshly squeezed orange juice.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 27/05/2023 19:01

Bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, orange juice. I like avocado but not essential. Tomato and mushrooms also good but not essential, though DH and DD would disagree with me on the mushrooms (they don’t think they’re food). Beans are an abomination in the sight of the Lord.

CordeliaNaismithVorkosigan · 27/05/2023 19:01

Oh, and DD would definitely want hash browns.

Fandabedodgy · 27/05/2023 19:02

Bacon
Square sausage
Black pudding
Eggs - scrambled or fried
Potato scone
Toast

Maybe beans

Tessisme · 27/05/2023 19:04

I was vegetarian for years and, even though I eat some meat now, I still have a veggie fry.

Veggie sausages
Potato farls (am in NI so these are mandatory😂)
Fried egg or two
Tomato
Mushrooms

DP has the same, but has beans and no mushrooms.

JussathoB · 27/05/2023 19:04

Add grilled tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach

Floralnomad · 27/05/2023 19:04

Ideal for me
sausages
bacon
poached eggs
hash browns
tomatoes
toast
IMO Baked beans do not belong at breakfast .

What's a potato farl?

AngelasAirpods · 27/05/2023 19:05

Yeah sure you can have a grilled tomato on there but I’m mystified why you’ve not asked whether beans belong?

Noooooooooooo! They sure don’t.
