@ThankmelaterOkay

I would not be complaining about them on mumsnet, but I find the notion that the public will only pay attention to climate change if they behave badly and harm the works of others is pretty insulting. Their communication methods suggest they have a low opinion of the British public.

The recent XR event in London demonstrated a much better way to communicate with the public.

Prescottdanni123 · 25/05/2023 19:02

@CheeseTouch

Yes they are doing something, but they are not doing anything meaningful or productive are helpful are they? What have they achieved through these actions? I'll tell you. Absolutely diddly-squat.

finallygotospeaktoSky · 25/05/2023 19:02

Complete wankers and the poster who used the 'boomer' insult is a wanker too.
I really wish sometimes that the whole bloody human race was wiped from the face of the earth.

I know right.

I decided, fuck it, I’m not washing out my yoghurt pot tonight.

That’ll teach them.

Remember last year flash floods and water cascading into tube stations and wild fires around the capital and the UN saying we will miss the 1.5c target when you start to read from the worlds climate scientists are predicting it's truly terrifying. But most of us myself included are in deep denial that this can even be happening. They are screaming to be heard its probaly too late as it is but if I was their age instead of late 60s I would be screaming as well.

This.

Don't have children, don't have pets, don't drive, rarely fly, low-meat diet, avoid packaging where possible rather than recycling, and hoping for the extinction of the human race.

What about you?

Pathetic.

I run a carbon negative business that employs 80 and improves quality of life for 1000s of people. Since you asked.

So how would you propose to get politicians engaged with genuine action to phase out fossil fuel use?

Extinction Rebellion’s event in April was lovely so I’m told, but unless there’s something to annoy the public, the press don’t report it. And politicians do fuck all.

Irridescantshimmmer · 25/05/2023 19:15

They are like a rat up a drainpipe.

Perhaps they are really, really angry. I don't blame them. CFS is hardly a bastion of sustainability anyway.

CheeseTouch · 25/05/2023 19:19

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/05/2023 18:28

What wantonly vandalising property? Yeah right!

So what are you doing to put pressure on politicians to phase out fossil fuel use that is the main driver of climate change? Answer the question.

CheeseTouch · 25/05/2023 19:20

CurlyQueues · 25/05/2023 17:37

Ignorant fucking cunts.

I take it you don’t have a PhD in climatology 😂

I cannot put on here what I think of them and what I wish would happen to them. But I agree with you @blacksax They are over-privileged, horrible, arrogant, bratty, dumb-assed, entitled little shits. And THAT is me being nice. AWFUL creatures they really are. Angry

Absolutely spot on. 👏👏👏

Cabbagey · 25/05/2023 19:22

For those curious about the demographics of the people seen on these protests ("middle class twats"), this is deliberate. For their front line protesters, protest groups encourage those who tend to get the least harsh treatment from police, who are more likely to avoid criminal charges, or who have the least to lose by getting arrested. Hence they tend to be white, young or retired, from 'nice' backgrounds, wealthy, etc to avoid their members being arrested and/or attacked as far as possible.

It doesn't necessarily reflect the membership of the groups - all kinds of people are in Just Stop Oil, XR, etc

Damnspot · 25/05/2023 19:23

The posh label is just to make people hate them more. Its so transparent. Fwiw I go to college one day a week and there are two members of XR in my group. They are lovely and not at all posh or middle class.

Lidlpopdrinker · 25/05/2023 19:24

I know one of these protesters, not to my knowledge one who vandalises things, but one who glues herself to Rhodes. She drives a petrol car though. She’s also horrible.

CheeseTouch · 25/05/2023 19:24

SunnyEgg · 25/05/2023 17:51

Yeh I don’t get this. I thought we were in a pro flowers and diversity for bees drive

I was confused about this action. This newspaper article explains.

Just Stop Oil explain why they protested against Chelsea Flower Show

Orange paint was thrown over an exhibit at the event in London

The article I read said the garden was sponsored by a "wealth management company" so perhaps that is why they chose that garden? Or maybe it was just an easy garden to target.

In other news, it's being reported today that three Animal Rising activists stole 3 lambs from the Sandringham Estate. They gave themselves (and the lambs) into a police station, so it sounds like a publicity stunt. Oh and they're heartbroken that their attempt to rescue the mother sheep didn't work (presumably the ewe ran off scared), which implies they took lambs away from their mothers before they had been separated.

The article I read said the lambs had been taken to a location but not returned to the farm. Are there bio-security issues with relocating sheep? I know cattle have 'passports' which have to be updated whenever they leave the farm but I don't know if it's the same for sheep. It might not be as simple as taking livestock off-site and then returning them to their original location.

I've been on Twitter all day with the lamb story. Absolute fuckwits. They must gone into that field and chased the sheep half to death. They picked up 3 random lambs and took them away from their mother. Each sheep in the country has a unique ear tag number and can't be moved to another location without the right paper work. Yes the lambs may now have to be isolated if they have had contact with other sheep who are not MV accredited. They actually had ropes round their bloody necks like dog leads. This is the most idyllic time of the year for ewes and lambs. These people seem to attack things that make life worthwhile.

If you watch the whole video on the Mail, there was a reasonably sized group of attendees clapping in approval. (I assume they were clapping at the JSO group and not the heavies moving them on.)

Some in the crows did ask them how they got there today. They don't answer of course, but it will have been by oil-fired fuel of some sort.

I'm surprised no one else tackled them, verbally. I think I'd have been tempted to go and have a word (nicely) .

Too polite middle class people today to take them on!

Yeah mostly saying what twats they are

Duckskitbank · 25/05/2023 19:28

They certainly do a good job of raising awareness. I’d forgotten about Chelsea Flower Show but I will now book a trip there next year.
I’m also overdue a weekend in Rome so I’ll get that booked in. By plane, obviously.

How many people saying jolly well done and how many people saying what fuckwits they are? and how is people just talking about them 'getting results'?

Shouldn’t that include people agreeing with their aims not just being annoyed?
