What happened to the Trevi Fountain?

Climate activists dumped charcoal in it

StayingZenInTheVipersDen · 25/05/2023 16:59

🙄 they absolutely suck

Spudlet · 25/05/2023 17:08

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/05/2023 16:58

Climate activists dumped charcoal in it

Fucksake. What’s that meant to achieve?

Everything they’re doing just seems so utterly counterproductive - they are actively turning people away from their cause and that just makes it easier and easier for the government to ignore the problem 😔

IamRoyFuckingKent · 25/05/2023 17:12

Agree, they are cunts of the highest order.

kethuphouse · 25/05/2023 17:24

Genzken · 25/05/2023 15:59

Publicity - of which they are getting a lot of to be fair.

but the publicity is not drawing attention to their (worthy)cause. They're complete morons because all their stunts are doing is making them look like ridiculous teenagers who are desperately trying to get attention.

Idiots, what a demographic to piss off, all those passionate gardeners who are ecologically minded, not using peat, growing organically sustainable gardens, looking to create environments for insects, wildlife etc, looking at ways of growing gardens that are water friendly etc. The garden in question was due to moved for use elsewhere. pillocks

I do agree. They are targeting the wrong people and it's stupid - people who probably maintain lovely gardens and try to do sustainable things here and there.

Having said that, the type of person who goes off a cause because of this is an idiot. The type of people who float about 'I'm going to go and eat a burger' because they don't like peta.

mummybones24 · 25/05/2023 17:31

Agree with @kethuphouse

Their pathetic behaviour is actually having the opposite effect. People are more likely not to listen and not to support a cause being championed by people who behave this way.

Totally agree about the demographic of people here. Just why? Why piss them off? What have they done wrong? I get that it's all about publicity and getting noticed but this surely alienates the type of people - environmentally minded types presumably - that might support their cause.

They are idiotic twats. I've seen videos lately of members of the public quite aggressively dragging them off the road and quite honestly, I have no sympathy for them. It will end in someone getting seriously hurt or worse.

CurlyQueues · 25/05/2023 17:37

Ignorant fucking cunts.

HappiDaze · 25/05/2023 17:38

It's always entitled middle class twats who've never had to work a proper day in their lives

Spudlet · 25/05/2023 17:39

Ok, having googled this is interesting - according to this article there’s little evidence for protests of this kind having a negative effect on support for the cause itself (as separate from the protestors themselves):
https://www.theweek.co.uk/news/society/958279/just-stop-oil-do-radical-protests-turn-the-public-away-from-a-cause-heres-the?amp

However, it gives Insulate Britain as an example and although there may not have been a negative effect on people’s support for better environmental policies, I’d point out that there hasn’t been a raft of new environmental policies either. So while they may not be actively damaging their cause, they aren’t getting any amazing concrete results yet, either.

They are also deeply irritating and preachy…

A number of studies have looked at whether radical protests alienate the public

They put people who agree with them off activism and they put people who mostly agree with them but aren’t fussed about making changes to their own lives off doing so on the basis that people who do are clearly nuts. I’m their core demographic - vegan, live car free for the environment, etc - but would never get involved with them because I think they behave appallingly.

That said, I am also very middle class so maybe me not becoming an activist is for the best if@Barbadossunset is right 😅

BarelyLiterate · 25/05/2023 17:44

I’m starting to think that ‘just stop oil’ must be run & funded by the Big Oil industry itself. Shell, Exxon & BP must be delighted by their actions.

Never has a protest group been so ruthlessly effective in alienating the public, undermining & discrediting the message it is trying to convey and betraying its own stated cause.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/05/2023 17:45

Fucksake. What’s that meant to achieve?

What does ANY of their antics achieve? millions of people thinking 'what a load of tossers' as far as I can see.

Plexie · 25/05/2023 17:49

The article I read said the garden was sponsored by a "wealth management company" so perhaps that is why they chose that garden? Or maybe it was just an easy garden to target.

In other news, it's being reported today that three Animal Rising activists stole 3 lambs from the Sandringham Estate. They gave themselves (and the lambs) into a police station, so it sounds like a publicity stunt. Oh and they're heartbroken that their attempt to rescue the mother sheep didn't work (presumably the ewe ran off scared), which implies they took lambs away from their mothers before they had been separated.

The article I read said the lambs had been taken to a location but not returned to the farm. Are there bio-security issues with relocating sheep? I know cattle have 'passports' which have to be updated whenever they leave the farm but I don't know if it's the same for sheep. It might not be as simple as taking livestock off-site and then returning them to their original location.

Absolute cunts

But ecology needs more. Flowers benefit bees and even some birds. They are not very bright are they?

Yeh I don’t get this. I thought we were in a pro flowers and diversity for bees drive

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/05/2023 17:53

From what?

We are reaching the tipping point of catastrophic climate change in our lifetimes that will destroy our lives as we know it but outrage eh. Crack on.

Plexie · 25/05/2023 17:55

Correction: the lamb rustlers handed themselves into the police but not the lambs. So it's unknown where the lambs are.

Daily Mail link:

Of course, if they were so concerned about saving sheep from slaughter they could just buy some sheep destined for the meat industry and rehome them like people do ex-battery hens. But then they wouldn't get publicity.

My garden doesn't provide food for me but it does provide food for bees and other insects, worms, birds and the effing fat bastard squirrel. Should I report to a re-education camp?

CheeseTouch · 25/05/2023 17:58

What are you personally doing to address the climate and biodiversity crisis? At least these activists are doing something.

Don't have children, don't have pets, don't drive, rarely fly, low-meat diet, avoid packaging where possible rather than recycling, and hoping for the extinction of the human race.

What about you?
