We are reaching the tipping point of catastrophic climate change in our lifetimes that will destroy our lives as we know it but outrage eh. Crack on.

This, wake up and smell (The soon to be extinct) coffee

tenbob · 25/05/2023 18:03

It’s a bit like the May Day rioters of the early noughties who protested for the furthering of workers rights such as profit sharing, and an end to poor conditions for the low paid by checks notes terrorising people working minimum wage jobs in McDonalds, and smashing up John Lewis on Oxford street

LlynTegid · 25/05/2023 18:06

Actions like theirs are why a law was passed that gave powers to the police to arrest those wanting to show their support for a republic on the day of the King's coronation.

You could protest by planting vegetables in the garden, or banners on sticks, without damaging the hard work of someone. And any plants in a garden are much better than the usual bricked over front garden so someone can park their SUV that they cannot drive properly in any case.

The article I read said the garden was sponsored by a "wealth management company" so perhaps that is why they chose that garden? Or maybe it was just an easy garden to target.

In other news, it's being reported today that three Animal Rising activists stole 3 lambs from the Sandringham Estate. They gave themselves (and the lambs) into a police station, so it sounds like a publicity stunt. Oh and they're heartbroken that their attempt to rescue the mother sheep didn't work (presumably the ewe ran off scared), which implies they took lambs away from their mothers before they had been separated.

The article I read said the lambs had been taken to a location but not returned to the farm. Are there bio-security issues with relocating sheep? I know cattle have 'passports' which have to be updated whenever they leave the farm but I don't know if it's the same for sheep. It might not be as simple as taking livestock off-site and then returning them to their original location.

Idiots.

I've spent the afternoon putting 500 lambs through a footbath for their feet, worming them for nematodirus and applying clic pour on to stop them getting flystrike and eaten alive by maggots.

Do these chumps have any idea the work that goes into looking after sheep. Have they turned them out on to someone's lawn ans hoped for the best? Have they any sense that there was a reason they were still running with their mother's and hadn't been weaned from them yet?

Actual animal cruelty right there folks.

and yes you do need to inform the Livestock Information Service (LIS formerly ARAMS) for any Sheep movements off their holding.

You also need a CPH number to keep them

Both of these requirements are so in the event of an outbreak of something like Foot and Mouth Disease all animals can be traced.

Hope they throw the book at them.

savory · 25/05/2023 18:22

Remember last year flash floods and water cascading into tube stations and wild fires around the capital and the UN saying we will miss the 1.5c target when you start to read from the worlds climate scientists are predicting it's truly terrifying. But most of us myself included are in deep denial that this can even be happening. They are screaming to be heard its probaly too late as it is but if I was their age instead of late 60s I would be screaming as well.

Love the woman who hosed them down 😀I can't imagine many people there having a lot of sympathy. Hope nothing like this happens tomorrow when I visit.

Yes, she was great!

It's always entitled middle class twats who've never had to work a proper day in their lives

It certainly seems to be.

GoodQuestion01 · 25/05/2023 18:28

You would have thought the security would have been better. Surely security guards would have been on alert for activists after so many disruptions of recent events.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/05/2023 18:28

CheeseTouch · 25/05/2023 17:58

What are you personally doing to address the climate and biodiversity crisis? At least these activists are doing something.

What wantonly vandalising property? Yeah right!

Barbadossunset · 25/05/2023 18:28

Of course, if they were so concerned about saving sheep from slaughter they could just buy some sheep destined for the meat industry and rehome them like people do ex-battery hens. But then they wouldn't get publicity.

Yes or maybe protest against the appalling practice of salmon farming which rarely gets publicity.

JaneJeffer · 25/05/2023 18:29

@Scrowy I live in a sheep farming area and had just been pondering how long the sheep would last if all the farmers "set them free". They haven't a clue.

wildfirewonder · 25/05/2023 18:34

It was the Brewin Dolphin garden? I was not thrilled they were sponsoring one.

We are not doing enough about climate issues.

I personally watch CFS but feel more angry about climate inaction than some orange paint on a corporate (albeit beautifully designed) garden.

They said on the garden: "You can't grow plants and have biodiversity when it's too hot for things to thrive. This is beautiful but we won't have this for long unless we do something." Several visitors applauded. The protestors have a point.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/05/2023 18:36

*Have they any sense that there was a reason they were still running with their mother's and hadn't been weaned from them yet?

I was just thinking that if they are still with their mother then they haven't been weaned. so these idiots have caused distress to both lambs and ewe. I wonder what their expertise is in animal care?

ThankmelaterOkay · 25/05/2023 18:38

They need to bore off and just let humanity wipe itself out as quickly as possible.

Scrowy · 25/05/2023 18:39

Quite. We hadn't been planning to do all of that today but a good strong lamb that looked perfectly healthy yesterday was stone cold dead this morning with a gut full of worms.

The nematoirus risk level for our area is currently 'very high'. It literally took hours to kill one strong lamb, we reacted instantly and treated 500ish of its peers. We have another 500ish to do tomorrow.

I bet those lambs are dead in their care long before they would have ended up in a slaughterhouse.

Spudlet · 25/05/2023 17:08

Fucksake. What’s that meant to achieve?

Everything they’re doing just seems so utterly counterproductive - they are actively turning people away from their cause and that just makes it easier and easier for the government to ignore the problem 😔

Agree with this.
Such a genuinely good cause - the environment, global warming. - yet these spoilt idiots behaving in ways that mean people take it all less seriously.

Paperlate · 25/05/2023 18:43

Everyone just eye rolls at the privileged twats playing at being activists.

EbonyRaven · 25/05/2023 18:44

I cannot put on here what I think of them and what I wish would happen to them. But I agree with you @blacksax They are over-privileged, horrible, arrogant, bratty, dumb-assed, entitled little shits. And THAT is me being nice. AWFUL creatures they really are. Angry

WarmWinterSun · 25/05/2023 18:47

They could have protested peacefully outside of the event, handed out flyers, held signs. It’s unacceptable to trash someone’s work in the name of their protest.

Hawkins0001 · 25/05/2023 18:49

Does anyone have the security services on speed dial.

LindorDoubleChoc · 25/05/2023 18:51

It's moved the cause forward so much hasn't it?

Reckon you’d be talking about it on Mumsnet?

Probably not but more people outside of MN might be inclined to listen to them instead of thinking they are idiots.

CheeseTouch · 25/05/2023 17:58

Nothing they are doing actually addresses the climate and biodiversity crisis. Vandalism if anything makes it worse as it will need to be cleaned up. It would be better if they were guerilla gardening or buying up tracts of rainforest or something. They even vandalised the Bank of England, which is doing loads of work on climate change.

EdithWeston · 25/05/2023 19:00

This article is a decade old.

Since then, CFS has got bigger, and the methods remain just as harmful
