Mine were Gran and Granny.
when i asked my parents what they wanted to be they opted for Grandma and Grandpa. When i asked my inlaws (called, for example Clive and Maria) they looked confused and said “Clive and Maria”. So they are 😁

We had a GanGan in my family and an Oma (which is German or Dutch I think)

AssertiveGertrude · 24/05/2023 23:29

I can not tell you what I called my Grandmother because it's one of a kind just like her and will out me without a doubt. However our children call my mother and my lovely MIL Nanny initial of first name.

luckyladygal · 24/05/2023 23:34

Just not sure which name I prefer and looking for something a little different maybe ?

We just have a form of our names like
" Kazzer " ( not real name ) . Think that gran and grandad and similar are so out of date now .

JimBob61 · 24/05/2023 23:40

I'm a Nonna, it's Italian for grandmother

Clicheinaqashqai · 24/05/2023 23:40

I have a friend who's parents are Pops & Poppy.

His dad wanted to be Pops as that was traditional in his family, but his mum absolutely didn't want to be Granny.

wlv12 · 24/05/2023 23:48

Nanny - my mum
Nana - MIL
Grandad - my dad
Abuela (Spanish for grandmother) - dad’s wife (they live in Spain)

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 24/05/2023 23:49

Mam Gu (south Wales - although my children threaten that I will be Mongoose or Mango) and Popsicle.

Yia Yia is Greek. Pronounced ya ya I think.

newusernamemumsy · 24/05/2023 23:59

Oma, MiMi, and Tutu are all ones I've recently heard. In the US it's popular to call your grandma what "grandma" is the language of their original heritage so you hear all sorts of grandma names.

AndMiffyWentToSleep · 25/05/2023 00:42

We've got a mash-up of 'gran' and their actual name e.g. if their name was Bob, they'd be called Granbob.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 25/05/2023 00:46

I am nanny it’s what I called my grandmother and what my children called theirs.

ALongHardWinter · 25/05/2023 01:35

My Dgd (17 years old) has always called me Nana.

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 25/05/2023 03:12

Mimi is very popular here in the American south.

spilltheteapot · 25/05/2023 03:34

Are you particularly glamorous because I’ve heard Glam-ma used!
I called my grandmothers Gran and Nana
My mum is Granny
My MIL was Nana
My aunt goes by Nanny for her granddaughter and grandad is Pops.
I’ve also heard Lolly and Pop used - lollipop! I like that.

Groutyonehereagain · 25/05/2023 03:40
