I had no idea that Brunei was in Borneo - I had always assumed it was in the Middle East somewhere.

This too Blush

Iamblossom · 24/05/2023 21:12

I've only just established where the Isle of Man is. Like, 10 minutes ago.

I'm 48

FreyaBentos · 24/05/2023 21:14

There is a tiny Dunkirk just outside Chester, too!

Shocked to hear that Brunei is i not the Middle East!

Infusionist · 24/05/2023 19:10

I know that Pontefract isn’t in Wales, but I can’t quite bring myself to believe it.

🤣 me too! Also I know Dunkirk is in France but I find this hard to accept. Always think it should be somewhere in Scotland.

sammyjoanne · 24/05/2023 21:15

For the Pontefract posters, check out ''30 east drive'' . Its in West yorkshire. Skeg Vegas as we call it is at the East coast of Lincolnshire.
It was a few years ago when I use to think it was Hot Dog, jumping ''from'' Alberqueue. But no, its jumping frog.

Fourfurrymonsters · 24/05/2023 21:21

Ppbbwwt · 24/05/2023 20:16

It's in West Yorkshire.

I’m refusing to believe that 😬 I’m 53 and I don’t want to shatter my Pontefractal illusions

Ts&Cs is terms and conditions and not ‘teason sees’ as I had thought until my early 20s
no idea where Skegness is but I would have guessed Scotland too

I love this!

newtb · 24/05/2023 21:23

Can't remember the name, but there's a place on the last bit of motorway near Dover that sounds like some of the place names near Dunkirk in Pas de Calais.

Peacepudding · 24/05/2023 20:18

Rotherhithe sounds like it should be in Scotland. What's it doing in London?!

I grew up on Rotherhithe old road. Such a bastard address to write and say over the phone

munchbunch12 · 24/05/2023 21:07

Like PP, I too thought Country Durham was in N Ireland, I thought it was the same place as County Down! I also thought Walsall and Warsaw were the same place. I thought Helvellyn (Lake District mountain) was in Wales too!

Helvellyn has a double ll so it should be welsh tbf

I lived in Walsall for years, I think Warsaw would have been more fun!

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/05/2023 21:28

Billericay is definitely in Ireland...isn't it? 🤔

Anoana · 24/05/2023 21:28

Woahtherehoney · 24/05/2023 20:38

Until a few years ago I thought Dunkirk was in Scotland (I refuse to accept it doesn’t sound Scottish 🤣)

I'm Scottish and still felt a bit surprised meeting a French guy from Dunkirk!

He was quite sexy and pronounced it 'dan-kerque'.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 24/05/2023 21:29

That they have a concierge at BT.

lieselotte · 24/05/2023 21:30

Bananalanacake · 24/05/2023 20:49

I'd heard about this big music festival in Woodstock, I thought it was the Woodstock near Oxford.

I thought that too.

However, how can you think Dunkirk is in Scotland. Have you heard of the evacuation during WW2? Why would we be evacuating British troops from a Scottish town? People can't really think the Germans invaded Scotland!

Carlisle does sound like it should be in Scotland.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 24/05/2023 21:30

I always though Santa Pod was in America, only found out recently its in Wellingborough. I blame Dickie Davies World of Sport on a Saturday afternoon.

I thought Essex? 🤣

CheshireCat1 · 24/05/2023 21:33

I used to think that a testicle was a type of spider.

I know what you mean! I thought Rotherhithe was in Scotland.

Everynightisday · 24/05/2023 21:35

The series Midsomer murders ( mind you I never have seen it) I thought it meant
MidSummer as it in the romantic middle of midnight in the summer..
I didn’t know it is means an area called Midsomer..

lieselotte · 24/05/2023 21:36

I thought Helvellyn (Lake District mountain) was in Wales too

DH says that region was part of the Kingdom of Strathclyde and linguistically has a lot of associations with Wales. Now you know.

UnctuousUnicorns · 24/05/2023 21:28

Billericay is definitely in Ireland...isn't it? 🤔

I thought it was Billercray. As in St Mary Cray and Foot's Cray. I never looked the spelling properly.

I thought Welwyn Garden City was in South Africa!
Had what must have sounded like a ridiculous conversation with someone at work who was moving there about how exciting it would be and why the 'big change'

This made me laugh so much😂
