A 37 year old man has lost his life to a ‘dangerously out of control’ dog and the owner has been arrested. The dog was put down.

How many more people have to lose their lives before something is done about out of control animals?!

Its getting ridiculous.

This was posted by our local police yesterday, People told to stay in their homes for their own safety.

Alert: We are dealing with a dangerous dog following reports a woman was attacked in the Eastfields area of Bishop Norton. We're asking people in the area to stay indoors while we contain the dog. More information when we have it. Incident 207 of 18 relates

DustyLee123 · 19/05/2023 16:41

10 people were killed in 2022.

ZoeCM · 19/05/2023 16:41

@Aaron95, that's the same argument the NRA like to use about guns.

Ylvamoon · 19/05/2023 16:48

I agree, something has to be done at government level.

Yuasa · 19/05/2023 16:51

Ridiculous argument.

The uptick in deaths and serious attacks on humans, as well as other pets being mauled, appears to be overwhelmingly linked to the emergence of a breed that nobody had heard of five minutes ago. It’s a no-brainer to ban something nobody needs and which is a safety risk. This is low hanging fruit.

Nothing like driving, where, like it or not, we live in a society that cannot get rid of cars overnight. Road safety is a much more complex issue. You can bet a huge amount of time, thought and money goes into improving it, though. Let’s have a bit of the same with dangerous dogs now.

Yuasa · 19/05/2023 16:52

Sorry, that was to Aaron95.

Tellmeimcrazy · 19/05/2023 16:54

Between 2001 and 2021, the average fatalities were 3.3 in 2022 10 people.

SerafinasGoose · 19/05/2023 17:01

Dogs vs cars?

HARD 👀

False equivalence isn't the 'gotchya' some people think it is. And this one's more crackers than most.

GenerallyGreenerGrass · 19/05/2023 17:05

I am a massive dog lover and over many years of dog ownership I have had at different times, a Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Great Dane, Labrador as well as various small dogs at the same time.
But, I wouldn’t have an XL Bully and I’d have no hesitation in banning these dangerous animals right now.

Dogs kill approximately 5 people per year in the UK.

Cars kill approxmately 1,500 people per year in the UK.

How about we start with controlling cars first.

It's about risk versus reward. We need cars for society and the economy to function.

We don't need those awful, killing machines that I bet this latest attack involves.

Ah I love a crazy MN dog thread.

Time to sit down with some popcorn seasoned with salty, anti-dog tears as I scroll through the ridiculous posts🍿

Lilacsbloominspring · 19/05/2023 17:10

You know someone’s dead right, @SiIIy ?

This isn’t dogs not on leads or ruining picnics, it’s a death.

Glad you find the topic so amusing. 🙄

And I am sure the great minds of MN are going to come up with sensible policy that the government will swiftly adopt rather than the thread descending into ridiculous, inane and unworkable “solutions”.

Lilacsbloominspring · 19/05/2023 17:14

Well, what we have at the moment isn’t working, is it?

IamSlave · 19/05/2023 17:16

Ironically it was getting a small dog years ago who would naturally attract others dogs that highlighted to me how many absolutely pathetic selfish owners are out there and scary vicious dogs.

coxesorangepippin · 19/05/2023 16:16

Get rid of cars instead of dangerous dogs??

Aye that'll work

I'm only 5 foot, I could travel to work on an XL Bully I reckon 👍

Yeah, such fun mocking people concerned about deaths. Do you not get out much?

Apart from walking your dog I mean.

wurtle · 19/05/2023 17:28

I just don't like these xl bullies. I walked on the suburbia of large city shopping street and a man with a xl bully without lead come across. The street was really busy with babies in buggies. Why wouldn't you you use leach?

4 people have died after being attacked by dogs this year and it’s only May! 2 of these breeds were American Bully types and the other 2 are ‘unknown.’ There’s also been loads of reports of people sustaining life changing injuries, including a 6 year old boy who was scalped by the family’s American bully (in the news today). 2 Cane Corsos attacked 6 people near a primary school in April. A bully type dog attacked a police horse this year. A 6 year old girl had serious injuries after being attacked by dogs in March and 17 dogs were seized. Dogs as strong as Pitbulls/American bullies shouldn’t be pets.

Dog attacks are on the rise - are car accidents? Not as far as I know.

Drivers have to be licensed and insured - do dog owners? No, they don't.

I'd absolutely support control measures over dog ownership that parallel the existing control measures we have over who can drive and in what circumstances, with hefty fines and punishments in place as there currently are for drivers who break the rules similarly applied to dog owners who don't comply. That would be wonderful.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 19/05/2023 17:36

Just ban XL bullies (sorry bully’s 🙄) and the amount of dog attacks will go right down.

Thatnameistaken · 19/05/2023 17:36

Bull breeds are to Britain, as Guns are to America.

God forbid anyone should try to control them...
