A 37 year old man has lost his life to a ‘dangerously out of control’ dog and the owner has been arrested. The dog was put down.

How many more people have to lose their lives before something is done about out of control animals?!

Is it always all about the owners or could it be that dogs are wild animals and regardless of being domesticated they will still behave true to nature? Shit owners are definitely a cause for attack but all dogs by nature attack and will return to their natural drives at will.

Horrible creatures

Not all animals would attack, like not all humans would. Some dogs don't have it in their nature and would just cower and submit rather than attack.

People forget that most bullies are sensitive dogs and just want to be around their owners hanging out. They learn behavioural traits from their humans, just like children do. If your owner is a violent bully, then the dog and any children are more likely to turn out that way too.

The biggest problem is how to stop people who want dogs for intimidation purposes from having them (or choosing worse options like knives and guns).

Nonsense.

Bull breeds were bred for a specific purpose - fighting.

They attack unprovoked.
It doesn't matter how they're raised.
They don't earn before attacking.
They bite and shake, tearing down from bones.
They never stop attacking and will kill or die trying.

The aftermath of a bull breed attack is more akin to a shark attack than a normal dog bite. Sharks also bite and thrash to separate flesh from bones.

Bull breeds do not learn to behave this way. It was been bred into their nature for hundreds of generations.

Cars are necessary unless the countries infrastructure is completely redesigned. Pet dogs are not necessary. They serve no purpose.

Cars are not necessary - how do you think we survived tens of thousands of years?
My Lord the critical thinking skills are lacking on this site. Cars are as necessary as dogs are.

I wouldn't go as far as "not necessary" but if anyone can explain to me why someone needs a large badly trained aggressive dog with zero checks on the suitability of that person, i'd be all ears!

The therapy/companionship benefits of a dog can be achieved from more gentle breeds.

Licencing, insurance & training plus a huge cull of the types of dog folk can have is urgently needed.

JamSandle · 18/06/2023 11:07

The issue as usual isn't the animal but feckless people who have no business looking after an animal.

Say if all the cars just disappeared overnight tonight, would the country continue on as normal tomorrow? All the dogs could disappear and while some people would be upset, it wouldn't really affect things very much at all.

Apart from for the police who use police dogs, those who can only be found with search and rescue dogs, the blind who use guide dogs and all the other types of assistance dogs out there. There will be many people who will have much lower quality of mental health (and possibly there will be far higher suicide rates) as the dog is often their only true friend and poorer fitness for those who only go out and exercise because they have a dog... Just because it doesn't affect you, it doesn't mean that it's the same for everyone else.

Must be a full moon and a leap year... i 100% agree with you and i absolutely love my GSP, but i never forget she is a dog (or bitch for the peds) and doesn't belong in my bed.

Treating dogs like bloody toddlers is where it all goes wrong.
