Pregnant at 43?!

Stripypillow · 19/05/2023 10:44

I haven’t actually taken a test yet because I’m a bit scared to. Mostly because it would be an amazing but terrifying thing to be pregnant! I am 10 days late, and feel pregnant (headachey, sore boobs, sort of strange feeling that I had last time).

DH and I thought we couldn’t have another dc, we were told we had secondary infertility and conceiving naturally would be highly unlikely. DS is 10!

I know I might not even be pregnant. But if I am… anyone else had a baby at 43?! How did it go? I’m terrified for so many reasons! One that I’m not pregnant and have let myself fantasise about it for the last couple of days, another that I am and would miscarry because of my age, another that I am and would feel like an old mum…

I live in an area where women having babies in their 40s is normal. I have friends with babies and toddlers, so wouldn’t be completely left out.

Anyone had a baby at 43? How did it go?

Did you take the test? I had bleeding early on during both of my pregnancies (light spotting in first and heavy in second). Still possible you could be pregnant?!

hopefulsquirrel · 19/05/2023 21:19

OP I really think you should still do a test. Spotting doesn’t mean you’re not pregnant.

Sending you love and a handhold.

ourflagmeansdeath · 19/05/2023 21:22

Sending you love ❤Also agree to still try the test just in case. Hugs OP Flowers

Absolutely should still test!

TeaParty4Me · 19/05/2023 21:25

I know posters mean well but I think some need to be a bit careful they’re not giving false hope.

RupertOscar1999 · 19/05/2023 21:25

Sending you and your family love ❤

I had one at 43 and had a 10 year old at the time.

she is 6 now and an absolute joy. I feel unbelievably lucky to have the experience of being her mother. I cherish it.

(the first 3 years were awfully hard)

BTMadmummy · 19/05/2023 21:40

Sending you love x

Lwrenagain · 19/05/2023 21:45

I'm sorry OP, sending love ❤

letthemalldoone · 19/05/2023 21:55

I'm sorry you didn't get the result you were hoping for. I'd still do the test though in all honesty.

I had my youngest when I was 40 and a half.

Camillasfagwrinkles · 19/05/2023 21:57

I'm sorry OP. I was really hoping for you x

EasterIssland · 19/05/2023 22:02

Agree with others. Take the test regardless. It could mean implantation bleeding
all the best and big hugs for dealing f with those feelings

Tessisme · 19/05/2023 22:02

Aw, I'm sorry you aren't pregnantFlowers

SoVerySophie · 19/05/2023 22:03

You still could be!! Test!

Bethany7 · 19/05/2023 22:15

Lots of love O.P

mondaytosunday · 19/05/2023 22:30

Yes I had my second at 43 (first at 41). I didn't get married til 40 though so was planned.
She's just turned 18, doing A levels and is great.
A friend had her only child at 46 and all went well, another at 45. What exactly are you worried about?

HammerToFall · 20/05/2023 10:02

I had some spotting for about an hour when I was six weeks the day before I did the test. Unless it's a full blown period I'd still test.

HRTSavedMyHusband · 20/05/2023 13:25

I would definitely still test, but same happened to me at 44. Stupid menopause!!

littlemissalwaystired · 19/05/2023 12:29

As a midwife let me reassure you it's sooo common nowSmile I honestly feel like I have more mothers in their 40s in my caseload than I do 20s.

@littlemissalwaystired this is great to hear. I don’t know anyone around me who is/have had babies in their forties so it feels unusual.

Originalmumster · 20/05/2023 17:30

I was 42 when my daughter was born. I was more laid back than when I had my son 12 years earlier.
My daughters 23 now so all went well😊

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 19/05/2023 15:41

I never understand people making such a song and dance about possible pregnancy. They sell pregnancy test in most shops and supermarkets which are open 24hrs just get a test take it an then think about things if you are pregnant and if your not then there's no point stressing and worrying about it.

This is a very simplistic mindset and a bit rude if I’m honest!

Thinking2022 · 20/05/2023 17:33

relax - it's the new 33! Lots of friends have and one friend conceived naturally at 50!!

Isitthathardtobekind · 20/05/2023 17:38

TeaParty4Me · 19/05/2023 17:31

Why would you do this to yourself!

Just buy some tests and deal with the consequences afterwards.

I can’t help feel that you’ve now got your hopes up over something that may not be.

Personally I think it’s good to think about things and how you might feel before you know for sure if it is a total surprise. I’m sure this thread has really helped.

I had a surprise pregnancy at 42 and went into total shock. I then had bad morning sickness. Together they put what felt like a huge black cloud over me. I didn’t know anyone that had a baby past 38 and felt like it was extremely unusual. If I had read this beforehand, I think I would have mentally dealt with it far better.

ferntwist · 20/05/2023 17:42

Very sorry to read your update OP. Sending you hugs (and hoping of course it’s just implantation bleeding)

Isitthathardtobekind · 20/05/2023 17:44

Just got to the update. Sorry to hear this op xxx
