Pregnant at 43?!

Stripypillow · 19/05/2023 10:44

I haven’t actually taken a test yet because I’m a bit scared to. Mostly because it would be an amazing but terrifying thing to be pregnant! I am 10 days late, and feel pregnant (headachey, sore boobs, sort of strange feeling that I had last time).

DH and I thought we couldn’t have another dc, we were told we had secondary infertility and conceiving naturally would be highly unlikely. DS is 10!

I know I might not even be pregnant. But if I am… anyone else had a baby at 43?! How did it go? I’m terrified for so many reasons! One that I’m not pregnant and have let myself fantasise about it for the last couple of days, another that I am and would miscarry because of my age, another that I am and would feel like an old mum…

I live in an area where women having babies in their 40s is normal. I have friends with babies and toddlers, so wouldn’t be completely left out.

Anyone had a baby at 43? How did it go?

My granny got pregnant and had a baby at 43. No problems and she lived to 95 so didn't die when he was a teenager or anything like that.

Take a test , you need to know . I’m 41 and just found out I’m pregnant too . I’m still in shock .
I know lots if idioms who had kids in their 40s and all mums and babies are ok

Omg really?

This is reassuring . I called my old midwife yesterday as I was in shock and she said the same . I think I almost feel I will be judged

I had a baby at 43. That was the easy bit. A toddler when you're 50, quite hard! But worth it

Arniesleftleg · 19/05/2023 14:29

Had one at 41. I'd have like to be younger but it just didn't happen as I had my first at almost 38. Yes I'm knucking fackered all the time but wouldn't change it.

MrFlobby · 19/05/2023 14:32

Please just go and buy a test I can’t bare the apprehension 😆

Therandomtrekker · 19/05/2023 14:34

Average age in Kingston hospital in over 40.
I was 40 when I first got pregnant and had at 41, 42 for second pregnancy had at 43 apart from gestational diabetes with both now have a 4 year old g and a 19 months b .
Apart from being always tired but that comes with all babies!

watcherintherye · 19/05/2023 14:36

We had dc3 after an 8 year gap, when I was 44. Everything was fine, and it keeps you young! Would recommend Smile

momtoboys · 19/05/2023 14:37

I can't wait for your update! :)

atcrossroad · 19/05/2023 14:37

This is so exciting OP!

MintJulia · 19/05/2023 14:38

I conceived at 44 & 5 months. DS born when I was 45+2.

What are you scared of? If you've conceived, that's because your body is still fertile. It is not uncommon for women to go through a heightened period of fertility before menopause. It's normal.

I had a problem free pregnancy, wasn't queasy once, natural birth. DS is now 14. All fine, no problems.

Get checked over by a midwife. Take your vitamins, and enjoy it. 🙂

ShinyShite · 19/05/2023 14:39

Yes, I was 43 with my one and only DS. He’s 14yrs now and an absolute treasure. My mum was 42 when she had me.
She said I kept her young, which I think was true because when I looked at her sister, she always seemed so much older and boring in comparison. In fact after my mum died, my Aunty wanted her clothes because she said she’d always admire my mum’s style. 😳😂

As a single lady aged 32 who would love to be a mum but feels like I am domed to be an old maid, these stories have brightened my day.
Good luck OP.

40s are the new 30s

Cowparslee · 19/05/2023 14:47

My mum had 3dc in her 40s without any issues

FurElise · 19/05/2023 14:48

My mum had me at 43 and I'm bloody amazing!

itwasntmetho · 19/05/2023 14:51

Can you just test today please? I want to know.

IcakethereforeIam · 19/05/2023 14:54

Fingers crossed for you OP, had first late 30s, 2nd early 40s. Do they still call mums over 34 'geriatric' and 'elderly'? That might have been the hardest part of the pregnancies 😭

TheInterceptor · 19/05/2023 14:55

Had my children at 39, 40, 43 and 46. All healthy, all naturally conceived. It's a glorious endeavour.

Juja · 19/05/2023 14:59

Both my parents were born to mothers over 40 (in 1932 and 1945) and my sister in law had her children at 41 and 43 (2003 & 2005).

All went well in all cases.

Look forward to hearing the result of the test....

Wishiwasmycat · 19/05/2023 15:04

yes I did. It was such a shock when I saw the test result and I panicked I was too old. But I shouldn’t have worried because I have the most loving and wonderful child. Good luck!!

Twocatstwodogs · 19/05/2023 15:04

Soooo invested in this, please test and let us know

LumpyandBumps · 19/05/2023 15:05

I had my first at 41 by emergency C Section due to position.
I had my second at 43. Completely uneventful pregnancy.
I would also say that there were several of us in my office pregnant at the same time and I coped at least as well ( if not better) than those who were in their 20’s.
I wasn’t even the fittest person beforehand but I coped fine with 2 under 2’s.

Stripypillow · 19/05/2023 15:05

God I am terrified of the test! Off to get DS from school now, will sneak and buy a test beforehand from the chemist, which I’ll hide in my bag, ready to take with tomorrow’s first wee. AAHH.
