Pregnant at 43?!

Stripypillow · 19/05/2023 10:44

I haven’t actually taken a test yet because I’m a bit scared to. Mostly because it would be an amazing but terrifying thing to be pregnant! I am 10 days late, and feel pregnant (headachey, sore boobs, sort of strange feeling that I had last time).

DH and I thought we couldn’t have another dc, we were told we had secondary infertility and conceiving naturally would be highly unlikely. DS is 10!

I know I might not even be pregnant. But if I am… anyone else had a baby at 43?! How did it go? I’m terrified for so many reasons! One that I’m not pregnant and have let myself fantasise about it for the last couple of days, another that I am and would miscarry because of my age, another that I am and would feel like an old mum…

I live in an area where women having babies in their 40s is normal. I have friends with babies and toddlers, so wouldn’t be completely left out.

Anyone had a baby at 43? How did it go?

Our youngest was born was I was 43. Much easier pregnancy and he’s been a breeze to look after, it also motivates me to keep fit and healthy because I’m always racing around parks (and going down the slides…).

one of my friends had one baby at 47 and another at 50! The children are in perfect health and so are the parents. They are loving it.

Popetthetreehugger · 19/05/2023 17:02

Place marking by telling you I’m the child of parents who were 43 when I was born , my DSister is 15 years older than me . I had a lovely childhood, I still love my sister to bits . Fingers crossed OP x

My mother had my little brother at 43.
43 can still cope with teething, broken nights etc. But coping with an energetic 10 yr old at 53 in mid menopause, was a whole lot harder.

I was 15 when he was born and expected to step up and fill the gaps; I'd recommend you avoid putting that burden on your 10 yr old.

My mum was 43 when she had my brother. I was 9... this wasn't my experience - I adored it!

My friend had a baby at 43, and her daughter was nine. Lovely baby, and they are a happy family.

Also, although I had my son at 43 I was never mistaken for his granny. I was a youthful looking forties/fifties. I think it’s important to make sure, as an older parent, that you try to keep a young at heart attitude, I’ve read from some people that they resented having older parents as they were more like grand parents.

LiliLil · 19/05/2023 17:06

Good luck OP!

AmyandPhilipfan · 19/05/2023 17:13

At 10 days late you don't need to wait for first morning wee for a positive to show up. Hope it works out for you OP xx

AGovernmentOfLawsAndNotMen · 19/05/2023 17:13

Cross fingers for you OP
Will be waiting for the update tomorrow.

MarjorieMoss · 19/05/2023 17:14

Can you take the test today op?! 🤔

MrFlobby · 19/05/2023 17:15

Just FYI… if you’re that late it will show up without first morning urine… so you could take it tonight 😏

caringcarer · 19/05/2023 17:15

My Gran had 9 children and 3 miscarriages. Her last child was when she was 46 and her husband 48 she miscarried at 47 1/2.

Alongtimelonely · 19/05/2023 17:16

Had my second aged 43 with an 8 year age gap. Pregnancy was better than my first and labour went better too. Happily my dc get on fine and eldest is sometimes a sibling and sometimes quite parental wit the little one.

It is a bit of a pain having a toddler in your mid 40s and the age gap has its pros and cons but the joy outweighs the burden.

best wishes, hope all goes well for you

MrFlobby · 19/05/2023 17:16

Oh & my step mum had my sister at 45! 15 years between us. I loved her as a baby and love her even more now we’re both adults!

GMsAWinner · 19/05/2023 17:23

My Auntie had her last child at 51! I don't know much about the birth, but I know she carried him to term, had him naturally and is was and is absolutely fine! She'd had four previously, last one 18 years before, and married a younger man and the rest is history.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/05/2023 17:29

I was Almost 44 when I gave birth for the first and last time

Dd was a chilled baby. Loved sleep. Still does now at 6

Don't worry. It will be fine

Shadowworry · 19/05/2023 17:30

1st at 35 after being told 6 months before after numerous issues that I could not get pregnant and carry a baby. Won’t lie difficult pregnancy and c section due to my own health issues.

2 nd at 41 after being told to crack on as previous issues meant highly unlikely due to my age and gnae issues. Didn’t think it would happy. Pregnant two weeks later. Awful pregnancy as per number 1. And awful c sections.

was tempted to go for a trio at 42 but marriage broke up - if it hadn’t of done I would have gone for a 3 rd at 42 aiming to have him or her by 43.

letsallmeetupinthehyear2000 · 19/05/2023 17:30

I had my DD at 42. Women have been having babies in their forties since time began. Don’t stress enjoy ! I’m sure your DC will be thrilled to have a sibling. My DD would have loved one but I went into menopause at 45 so left it too late
DD was very healthy baby and I had a super easy birth

TeaParty4Me · 19/05/2023 17:31

Why would you do this to yourself!

Just buy some tests and deal with the consequences afterwards.

I can’t help feel that you’ve now got your hopes up over something that may not be.

BigBunkers · 19/05/2023 17:33

Just echoing the others, at 10 days late, it’ll show up if you do a test now.

Fingers crossed for you!

BungleandGeorge · 19/05/2023 17:33

You don’t need to wait until morning to do the test if you’re 10 days over, it will show up at any time!

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 19/05/2023 17:33

Hope you get the result you want!

Wheresthebeach · 19/05/2023 17:35

Yep! Had DD at 43. No problems…had been told I couldn’t have kids…but then so had my Mum🤣

Bethany7 · 19/05/2023 17:36

Good luck O.P! X
